Season so far?
Let's take the 'we love Bobby' glasses off first of all, and remember we are Everton, not Wigan.
3 draws, 3 wins, 1 loss, and no League Cup.
2 big teams out of the way, and still in touch of where we want to be.
Over all, I'm fairly underwhelmed at only having 12 points from the games we've played, and feel we have let opportunities pass us by, while other teams are also struggling. Maybe it's a case of there being no easy games in the Prem anymore.
Our performances have been a mixture of brilliance and sloppiness, and we need to find some consistency.
Under Moyes, we played some great stuff in the last few years, and I don't think we are at that level yet, as the difference with last years team was not having a goal scorer. Our defence was excellent, and we still had Baines and Coleman flying up and down the wings. Our possession was very good, but our success up front wasn't ideal.
Under Martinez, our defence is not as reliable. Our midfield will need time, and our attack looks better, especially our counter attacks.
I'm still optimistic though, and prepared to let things run their course before judging. Not everything that happens on the pitch is down to a manager, so the players need to step up.
So far this season, we have had some poor performances from key players, and we need that to improve. Baines, Mirallas, Gibson, Osman all need to step up. Like Naismith or not, his performances this season have been full of energy and effort, and I'd like to see that rub off on a few others.
Hopefully by Christmas we will have settled a bit more, and still be in contention.
Liverpool look ok this season, and will no doubt back it up again in January, and United will be back on track soon. It all reminds me a bit of a long distance track race. Nobody is particularly getting involved at the front, but when it matters, the quality competitors will make their move, and we need to be there.
