What is the Everton identity?

I suppose I have always identified Everton with being innovators, always looking to be ahead of the game. To define the future of the game....

Look at this list:

Founder members of the Football League in 1888

Founder members of the FA Premier League in 1992

First club to be presented with the League Championship trophy

First club to present medals for winning the Championship

First club to play officially in Blue and White (1901)

First club to stage an FA Cup final 1894, Notts County v Bolton Wanderers

First club to go on an overseas football tour

First club to construct a purpose built football stadium

First club to have a four-sided stadium with two tier stands

First club to have a stadium with a three tier stand

First club to issue a regular match programme for home fixtures

First club to have a player (William Ralph Dean) score 60 league goals

First club to wear numbered shirts from 1-11 (1933 FA Cup final)

First club to install dugouts

First club to install undersoil heating

First club to win a penalty shootout in the European Cup 1970 v Borussia Moenchengladbach

First club to play 4000 top-flight games

First club to amass 5000 League points

First club to play 100 seasons in the top-flight

First club to stage a World Cup semi-final in Britain

First club to have the youngest Premiership goalscorer in two consecutive seasons with two different players

First club to break the £100,000 transfer threshold when Alan Ball moved from Blackpool for £110,000 in 1966.

First club to be featured in a TV game in August 1936 v Arsenal. Not live (pre-recorded).

First club to have scoreboard half time/full time facility

Will we be the first Premierleague club to share a stadium with another? Will this be a step in the right direction and many others may follow?

Good question and a quick off the top of my head answer would be:

A sense of Idenity for Everton is being part of a really Historic Football Club.. We have many firsts to our name, but more than that we have a sense of togetherness that transends other things. We have greatness in our past, and hopefully we have greatness in our future. We remember great times and sad, and for those times we don't remember, we have our fathers, grandfathers and even great grandfathers to regale us with the stories. It comes down to the words of our song. "And if you know your history...."

Those six words tell you what our identity is.

Dixie Dean, Kendall, Ball and Harvey, Brian Labone, Graeme Sharp, Neville Southall. Players who defined teams, teams that defined the fans ambition..

Mediocrity would never be entertained in those era's - unfortunately that is what is happening, some people are expecting us to accept mediocrity, some fans are not old enough to understand that what we have now is not good enough, improvement isn't success.

Not that i don't believe you.. but where did you get this from? And is all that stuff from firsts nationally or internationally??

about the Everton identity.. i wouldn't really know because the closest i've ever been to Liverpool is Kent :D

I'll try to figure out what it was that drew me towards Everton since i haven't really thought about it yet tbh

Thanks Pete.. It's quite impressive..

this one is pretty funny though:

First club to have a church attached to its stadium rofl.gif

You're welcome. I like this little bit from wiki about the church "Imaginative spectators would climb the church and watch a football game from the rooftop however they have now been deterred from doing so with the installation of security measures such as barbed wire and anti-climb paint. In addition, the introduction of the 'all-seater' ruling following the Taylor Report has meant that spectators no longer resort to climbing nearby buildings for a glimpse of the event as a seat is guaranteed with a purchased ticket."

The last one amuses me, were we are scraping the barrel.

First club to sell tickets via text message.

Shows some good 21st century innovation though.
