Romey 1878 Posted July 9, 2013 Report Share Posted July 9, 2013 As he's been working with their youngsters, I wonder if he'll take a similar role with us and Stubbs will move up to first team coach? Stubbsy did well with the U21s last season so maybe he'll be rewarded with the step up to the first team, especially as he was a defender so you'd hope he can add those strengths to Martinez's backroom. Apparently he worked as a European scout for Stoke before he worked for Wigan. He proposed Demba Ba to Stoke for £7m, but they were reluctant because of his knees. He eventually signed for West Ham on a pay as you play contract. He also proposed Stoke Steven N'Zonzi for £500k when he was still playing in France, they eventually got him for £3m from Blackburn. They also got beaten too Papiss Cissé by Newcastle. Among the other ones that got away are Fernando Llorente and Javi Martinez. And Laurent Koscielny who was available on a free after his contract at Tours had expired, he eventually signed for Lorient and went to Arsenal a year later. Penrice said: "Timing and good intelligence are the essence of modern scouting. Yohan Cabaye was, according to Penrice, 'never an off-the-radar-sort'. He was the star of a championship-winning team at Lille, and Newcastle merely moved fastest when it emerged he had a bargain buy-out clause of £4.5 million." He has set up "a strategic association" with the Wasserman Media Group, which represented more than 400 players in La Liga, Seria A, Ligue 1, Bundesliga and the Premier League.
