java2001e
what i guessed it would be! GOAL HOWARD DEFENDERS HIBBERT – LESCOTT - YOBO - VALENTE MID-FIELD ARTETA – CAHILL - NEVILLE – DAVIES FORWARDS BT – AJ WHAT IT WAS. Everton: Howard, Neville, Yobo, Stubbs, Nuno Valente (Lescott 49), Davies (McFadden 73), Carsley, Cahill, Arteta, Johnson, Beattie of course hibbo is sick so a couple of changes had to be made. tim howard loks promising i thought, he dealt competently with a couple of good shots. BUT AJ IS THE MAN! i reckon we got our moneys worth there and if he and BT can both get goals, with contributions from faddie, cahill and arteta we should see a top 6 finiish. Romey 1878
I thought Moyes made a big mistake when he brought Lescott on and played him left back, he should have put Neville left back, Lescott centre back and Yobo at right back IMO
CraccerC
i'm not getting carried away good result but poor performance, and i'll judge AJ when he actually hits the target and scores
thebluenose
i honestly thought we were lucky. the penalty decision and stubbs doing his neville southall impression. for once we had luck on our side (although our pen wasnt a pen its still lucky) howard i think is a good buy, lescott wasnt good at left back and AJ did well to score. overall good result and lots of luck. hope we improve and continue with the luck
Romey 1878
Im not looking forward to the Blackburn game like, they may have been battered in their game against Portsmouth but they are still a good side. We need to get our act together, and fast.

Mac
Spoken like a true Evertonian, did you say stag (as in guard duty) or did you miss an e off the end of it, just curious Steve, if on stag why Madrid?. ATB Mac
StevO
it was stag weekend, i think it was a random city that the "stag" himself had never visited before. we only found out the destination at the airport, but it was a great laugh, and now my body hurts

java2001e
watford are a good side. but there a bit like bolton, they rely too much on muscle to get a result. theyll have to develop a bit more than that to be successful in the premiership. but they played well and they had most possession, but they didnt score. and thats usually the case were you rely on muscle rather than genuine skill. when the ball did go in it was an own goal. we got a lucky penalty, but we hit the woodwork twice, so overall we deserved the win. but the midfield lost possession a lot or didnt get possession when they should have done. whenever there was a loose ball it seemed to go to watford. carsley fiddled around with the ball and gave it away when he should have cleared. that led to the watford goal. overall it was a pretty even game, and its nice to come out on top in those encounters. i think we have to toughen up the midfield to control the game more. we relied a lot on defence to keep watford out, when they shouldnt have been allowed in to begin with. rowlo-efc
Midfield was awful. Davies is second rate I'm afraid. So much for all the reports about him being in form...crap... Osman would have done a much better job. Plus osman gets forward meaning that Cahill and Arteta can hold the middle of the park... becuase Davies doesn't get forward enough, Cahill and Arteta were drifting forward - leaving massive gaps in the midfield. Ok - we won and no one is happier than me about that...but performance wise - alls I can say is - thank god that they were shite! Howard - 9/10 impressive Neville - 7/10 average at best at RB Stubbs - 8/10 evertonian Yobo - 8/10 solid Valente - 7/10 exposed a bit by Artetas wandering - struggled with a knock but nothing got past him Arteta - 6/10 took a good peno but thats all he did Cahill - 6/10 looked a little lost to me Davies - 5/10 - garbage Carsley - 7/10 - played in defence most of the game to help with the Watford long ball! Johnson 9/10 (my man of the match - and not for his goal - for his workrate) Beattie 8/10 - slated by some but he is going to look slow against AJ - worked hard and the partnership worked for the first goal - cant ask for more than that. Missed a howler that AJ feed through to him... McFadden - 6/10 didn't really make a difference Lescott - 6/10 - Left back for valente - was a little lost - it was his man that he lost that lead to their goal - he was in the CB position and must have 'forgot' that he was playing LB. Anichebe - 6/10 - didn't get the ball much. Needs to be a little stronger when holding defenders off. Gutted that VDM wasn't even on the bench. Osman should have seen the park well before McFadden (IMO) Howard - gives me confidence to know that he is a solid keeper.

What's also is good is way Andy scored because it clearly shows that he has quality of great striker and we'll see much more of that during the season, I'am sure! It was first game and we got all three, that's what's important! I know Blackburn is better that performance in Portsmouth indicates, but we're too! Of course, You should never forget - UEFA-MAFIOSI!!! I OVE NOCI, SA SEVERA, DA JE ZVEZDINA(EVRTON-ova) POBEDA, NOVI SAMPION, I TITULA, NASA ZVEZDA(Everton) JE OPET NAJBOLJA!!! This is RED STAR's song, which I usually convert in Everton's during our games (Everton's games)! WHO SAID DANUBE IS NOT BLUE!?

Romey 1878
Even if the goal is taken off him, Everton will just ignore it and count is as a Johnson goal anyway like they did last season with Osman. Crouch had a couple of dubious goals awarded to him last season in the same sort of situation as Johnson finds himself in at the moment. It seems like the players that play for bigger clubs get what they want though. <_<
