Chris Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Sources in Northern Ireland have informed NSNO that the Everton academy have completed the signing of 16-year old Northern Irish defender Shane Duffy from the Derry based Foyle Harps Youth Football Club. After impressing in his country's recent Victory Shield match with England, Duffy was invited to England for trials with a number of clubs including Arsenal and Manchester United. He has however opted to join up with compatriots Ryan Harpur and summer signing Eunan O'Kane at Everton. http://www.nsno.co.uk/news.php?item.2915 The Foyle Harps wikipedia page says said he'd signed three days ago! Louis Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Finch Farm must be paying dividends already if he knocked back Arsenal and Man Utd in favour of us. Quote
CraccerC Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 haha yeh i think so, we're recruitin (or looking to) pop rejects and former big brother 'celebs' Quote
Noddy Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 (edited) Is that Jose Baxter as well? Yeah that's Shane and Jose Baxter, playing against each other for the first time. Apparently when he was invited over, José was the first person he saw, haha! The big guy has been looking promising and he has attracted the attention of loads of clubs, including Man U, Liverpool, Bolton, Tottenham, Celtic and Arsenal. I've watched alot of his games and watched him in the Milk Cup. He got awarded Man of the Match against Chelsea, when he played for County Derry. He got a good write up there in the local paper too! Here he is during the Milk Cup: And here he is with David Moyes: 6'3" and growing haha! Edited April 13, 2009 by Noddy Quote
Louis Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 Welcome to TT Noddy, a nice informative first post - thank you Do you know why he chose Everton above the other clubs? Quote
StevO Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 Noddy, are you in fact Shane Duffy? Quote
Noddy Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 Noddy, are you in fact Shane Duffy? Haha! I am actually his cousin, but it's all true! He told me that the facilities were different class over there and he felt a sense of loyalty to Everton because they had been interested in him for quite some time, rather than just coming in after his performances on TV. Quote
Louis Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 Is that you on the left? It's always nice to see a bit of loyalty Quote
Noddy Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Nah, that's not me on the left there, that's Shane's little brother. Quote
Yorkie Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Is his brother any good? Future Everton star? Quote
Noddy Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 Yeah, well, the scouts were watching him too when they were over. He's definitely a good player. Quote
Noddy Posted November 18, 2007 Report Posted November 18, 2007 By the way, Shane is only 15. He'll be 16 on New Years Day. Quote
Noddy Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 I watched the Northern Ireland versus Wales U16 match on Friday 23 there, and I thought it was a good game. Shane had a sound match. Quote
Noddy Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 As of 1st of January 2008, Shane is now officially eligible to play competitive matches for Everton. He is currently training with the under-18 squad. Quote
Bill Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Think we should change the topic title.?? Maybe Noddy's topic. Quote
Noddy Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Har, Har. Just keeping you all informed, you clown. Quote
Bill Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 You again, your certainly a good PR man, is he paying you. Quote
Noddy Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 haha As a matter of fact, yes. Yes he is. Quote
Louis Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 If it makes you feel any better Noddy (read the text beneath your name incidentally ) I've requested him to be added to Football Manager (I help with research) so he should be in there with the new patch that comes out next month. Does he have a pro deal? Quote
Noddy Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 Yeah, he does. That's cool, man! I'm a big Football Manager player myself. How do you get to help with research? I'd love to help out. Quote
Louis Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 Email fmni_research@hotmail.com - he should be able to help you out. Quote
Noddy Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 Thanks Louis! I've just sent an email. However, back to the topic... Shane is currently training with the Northern Ireland under-17 team and should hopefully be playing in their next few games. I think the next coming game is against Finland. Here's another snippet of info: Shane is actually also eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland, but he is keen on staying with the Northern Ireland team, because they have supported him all the way and also because the current group of players have a strong bond with one and other. Quote
Louis Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 I was under the impression all Irish could play for whichever they want (Northern or Republic) under the good friday agreement? Good to hear that the lad has a bit of loyalty though, I watched the Victory Shield and there were a few good players there. Quote
Noddy Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 (edited) Yeah, that is the case, but Shane's father is from the Republic so, it's easier for him. The whole fiasco with Darren Gibson annoyed me. It just seemed like the IFA were trying to hinder Darren Gibson's international career with the FAI. The N.Ireland Victory Shield squad definitely did have a few good players in there. I'd say, if the IFA keeps them together, they'd be doing well. Edited January 27, 2008 by Noddy Quote
Noddy Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 It doesn't seem that Shane is in the new Football Manager patch. Quote
Noddy Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Hey guys! Shane is now playing with the Republic of Ireland Under 17 squad. He has been training with them for the past few days and has impressed coaches. Rumours abound around the training ground that the young defender has been touted as the new Paul McGrath. Quote
