Coleman

Dead right, although I would have had him in the team long ago!

Me too Ig, I think he earned a closer look after his performances when he was given a go. I think it sent a very negative message out when he came on against Spurs, got us going forward, earned the MOTM and then he wasn't seen again .

I'd have thought that now our season is pretty much over that it'd be the perfect opportunity to throw him in. I mean, there'd be no pressure on him because we're not really playing for anything so he could just go out there and show everyone what he can do, and we'd get to see how his defensive skills stand up in this league.

see where youre coming from Mark, but since the season could be pretty much over, leave him in a club that are proving to be a very good place for him, that desperately need him and actually have something to achieve. Ive read nothing but good things about him since he went, his confidence must be through the roof and im pretty sure that if he came back to sit on the bench (because Pip wont be dropped unfortunately) he wont be happy. Leave him to enjoy himself and bring him back for preseason. Hopefully DM will see the change and will play him through the friendlies, maybe into the next season. not 100% confident of that though!

Doesn't make sense to me why Moyes won't give Seamus a good run of games. I mean, it's odd that Moyes will rely on 19 y.o. Rodwell in midfield, and 21 y.o. Fellaini and turn around and say that 22 y.o. Seamus Coleman is too young...rubbish if you ask me. Keep him at Blackpool for the remainder of this season and even next if Moyes won't give him a shout.

That's ten points from twelve since he joined them, doubtless all down to Seamus :P (they only had three from the previous twelve)

How'd you work that one out Mike :S?

He's made another dash into the area today and got another penalty for Blackpools 3-1 win, he has to come back to us next season.

Him and Baines raiding down each side, if we can get a 20 goal a season striker we could be in business.

Yak + Scoring boots = 20 goals/season

Saha + fitness = 15+ goals/season

Coleman once again in the thick of it today, playing a major role in Blackpool's equaliser (as well as standing up to some lanky chap!. I've seen him a few times for Blackpool and he puts in the same great shift that he displayed on the few occasions he did for us.

I really hope Moyes wants to keep this lad, I think he's great little player and dare say it, hes better than Hibbert and Neville and that position. Maybe not in experience but I think he oozes class.

Theres noting to say Moyes doesn't share this opinion, I just hope that he doesnt end up drifting away like some of the other lads who have shown promise. Don't get me wrong I think a loan spell wouldnt hurt at Blackpool but hes 21 now so I would like to see him getting a chance next season in the team.

Me too.

Apart from the little run to set up the goal he made a lot of rash mistakes, was often out of position (an attribute the Hibbert bashers don't like about Hibbert), pushed out the way by Forest's wingers on quite a few occasions... Seen Coleman play much better than he did today; still a great prospect but far from making right back his own right now.

I can't wait till he comes back.

With a top class striker in the middle that i am sure Moyes will buy :D and baines and coleman firing down the flanks its going to be fantastic.

:)

3 years doesnt make sense to me, hes one of our youngsters and should be getting a 5+ deal, especially as his potential is clear to see. Still, at least we're trying to keep our players which is a good sign...

Great news. Sends a signal to Coleman and the fans that he will get his chance.

Then again, NOTW alert  We'll see if this crops up on the OS soon.

TBH surprised at this one, thought he was well contracted already but his performances for Blackpool must mean people have come sniffing.

He was probably on very little money though I'd have thought and his performances/potential needed recognising :) .

Thought he only had a year left, sure I read that somewhere but that's not to say it was accurate.

I was under the same impression Mike.

Good news, and hopefully means we'll see more of him playing for us next season.

Good news indeed!

I think its a good sign that they are getting all the contract extensions sorted early doors we might even see a new singing before August 30th at this rate

Agree with you Dunc, great to see we are sticking to the promise of keeping the squad together, great news!

I bet he was only peanuts in comparison to our lot and if we're gonna see more of him in the future (next season) you would expect him to get a pay rise anyway! And i think he did only have a year Mike, yeah.

BBC's fantastic research there.... apparently has turned into Baxter!

Someone's been told to get a picture of Everton's No.31 and they've not looked carefully enough  .

i'd be half tempted to send him there for another season...i wanna see him play for us but if he gets a whole premieship season behind him instead of just 10 games or so whilst we use neville in perhaps is last full year then...i think i would to be honest! be interestin to see though because if moyes doesn't then that means he has him in his plans :D i'd be happy enough either way!

What about a half year loan to Blackpool with the possibility of an extension if Moyes doesn't want him back come January. Also, I wouldn't want him to appear against us.

i would also send coleman back on loan to blackpool as we could see then if he really can cut it at the top week in week out. give him a full pre season with the blues then give the lad a 6 month loan, as said earlier better than sat on the bench

I'd like to see a half year spell, not a full year. With how he has played already for us and Blackpool I don't see him being a whole season of play off the mark of Neville and Hibbo. He should be a regular in the side come the new year.

I agree only half a year tops with a recall clause...

Having said that Id rather see Duffy (when fit again), Ruddy and Vaughan go on loan to a prem team ahead of Coleman as he has a real chance of starting for the 1st team.

Moyes on Coleman...

http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2010/08/27/boss-urges-coleman-patience

Unusual for him to describe one of his players as "poor," even though he went on to praise him a lot and not rule out the possibility of him playing at Villa.

Just read that and I agree 100% with what Moysie had to say.

Everybody can see what a talent he is going forward but against Huddersfield his defensive frailties were also there for all to see. He sounds like a quick learner though and Im sure its only a matter of time before he sorts our the defensive side of his game

Totally agree. Some people are going way, way overboard about him. We can all see he's great going forward but he's got no Premier League experience and could be found out defensively. I think he's going to be a very good player for us, but if he gets thrown in too early and has a shocker or two defensively his confidence could totally collapse. I agree with Moyes that patience is very important.

That's a poor excuse for not playing him in my opinion. You can't get experience if you don't play. He's excelled and stood-out at every level he's played at (not entirely easy for a defender) whether that be the League of Ireland Premier League, the Championship or U-21 internationals. The only really poor performances he's had is vs. Benfica (out of position at left-back against a rampant di Maria in a make-shift defence on his debut) and the first half against Huddersfield and you could qualify that with his stellar performances against Tottenham and Manchester City in the Premier League.

By all means question his defensive abilities but when you can count his poor performances with your thumb and forefinger and you're losing track of his brilliant ones then you have to ask yourself why not just play him.

Lest we forget that Jack Rodwell was the main reason we were knocked of the Europa League and people were still calling for him to be on the plane to South Africa.

Lol Clearly Coleman is a favourite of yours!

You are right about him needing to play to learn, and thats precisely why he was farmed out to Blackpool last season. I also wouldnt hold the Benfica game against him but you are way off the mark if you think he has only had two poor performances defensively.

I have seen a fair bit of him and he does look dodgy at the back. Its no good saying this player has made a mistake and that player has made a mistake we are talking about Coleman. ( Rodwell isnt a starting player either by the way)

His time will undoubtedly come but why throw him in before he is ready?

As Oscar Wilde said: "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"

Stick the lad in and let him learn from his mistakes or loan him to Blackpool and let him make them there.. He's 22, he's a big boy and he can handle it.

I agree he's got to learn, and he'll only do that from playing. But what I'm saying is that we can't just stick him in – he has to be brought in gradually and protected. The way some people talk about him you'd think he's been playing at the top level for a couple of seasons and we know he can handle it. He hasn't and we don't.
