  1. Bent would not be bad, but could we afford his wages?

I would put this group at the top of my list for our club ATM. To make the list he must be a strong striker because thats what Wigan used, and be able to hold up play, win a header, score, and have good enough vision to allow others to score. Its alos completely possile that I am way off and Martinez will prefer to use 3 up front with Jelavic in the middle and Mirallas on the right which would have us looking for a pacy 2nd striker like Imoh Ezekiel or Carlos Vela. Come to think of it Gervinho would look good on the left side of that formation.

Imanol Agirretxe 26 - big and strong, decent skill, good eye for goal and team player 10+ goals and 6 assists each of last 2 La Liga season.

Nils Peterson 24 - big and strong, true goal scorer 10+ goals and 6 assists on loan at Bremen. 2 seasons before had 27 goals and 7 assists in Bundesliga 2. Year before last was spent on the bench at Bayern who still own his contract.

Jozy Altidore 23 Big, Strong, Fast Not the same player he used to be. Always had elite potential, but this season put it together. Great goal vs Germany. Will prob command a fee of 10+ Mil which is prob out of our price point.

  2. From Brazil there's Ronaldinho

    From Italy there's Flamini and

    From Portugal there's Aimar

    And from Russia there's Honda

To be honest the first three are finished, but Honda could be quite a coupe for free! Not to mention the exposure in Japan.

I swear I have said the same thing about Honda on this board before. If he is a real possibility we should jump, but my gut tells me he is going to get 80k per week somewhere.

  3. http://www.footballfancast.com/premiership/everton/the-ten-bosman-transfers-everton-must-consider

Apart from Weiss (cracking possibility), I either know enough about the others to not want them or not know enough to want them

Weiss is the only one I would have of this list. None of the players mentioned are poor, but for us they would be 30-40k per week players who would have bit roles. Weiss could be tricky because there should be a fair bit of interest in him.

  4. Ossie has played well in the games he has played this season. He have always admired him, I think it was instead one of the players who they didn't want to turn their back on. Like Hibbo. They have been there that long why not let them finish their careers at Everton.

Ossie is a good player though and I am happy he has signed a new contract.

I'd agree he has played well in 'some' of the games. He's also gone missing in a lot too.

Well he did break into the England squad this past season. I wouldn't mind acquiring a replacement, and letting Ossie go back to being the midfield "jack of all trades" replacement. If we do not acquire a replacement at least we have a solid if not spectacular player still at the club. I wound not be surprised if he pulled a Cahill either next or the summer after and ended up in MLS for a year or two.

  5. "Everything else is waffle"

Great comment. But seriously he sure seems to be asked about his future on every international break. Every Journalist asks him the same thing in some form or another

Journalist: "Hey, Maroune whats up? So whats going on with your future"

Fellaini: "I am under contract at Everton and I am happy here."

Journalist: "What if a big club came knocking? How about ManU? You would look great in red."

Fellaini: "Yeah, ManU is one of the biggest clubs in the world. If an acceptable offer was made I would consider it, but I am happy at Everton."

Fast forward to next international break, and repeat.

Seriously though he will leave when an acceptable offer comes and he is ready, and I would guess that is this summer.

  6. Common themes that I am seeing on some forums (along with our own) - not criticisms but observations...

    • Martinez being judged on where he finished in league with no understanding of how he was impacted by resource, injuries comparable to other managers.

    • No understanding of how other managers (Hughes, O'Neill etc) have operated in their previous clubs. Just a wikipedia link here and there showing league table finishes (no mention of transfer expenditure, player disputes)

    • Pereira (a man 99% of Evertonians knew almost noithing about last year) being heavily favoured because he won the league back to back. Why wasn't he offered a contract before if he was so great? He may well be, but can we be so sure? Juande Ramos wasn't exactly the superstar Spurs thought he was going to be... His assistant back then (Gus Poyet has also been favoured)_

My like for Martinez is based on a few things:-

    • He is the least risky appointment
    • He has the potential to take us forward. Anyone who seen how Wigan played us off the park on Boxing Day but in reality lost because the lesser quality of their defenders was the difference. He gets his teams to control the game, no punting, scared to have the ball, he gets them playing.
    • He will not roll overand tell his team to sit back.

Every argument against Martinez can almost be countered with "would Sir Alex Ferguson have done a better job with those resouces?"

This is pretty much my exact feelings about these two managers.

  7. a guess - Is he your favorite by any chance?

I think he has 3 or 4 votes on the toffeetalk vote. So less than 10% backing, so he's a long way from the fans choice. He's not going to leave Swansea this season with them in Europe - he would also cost top dollar given his stock this year, so not really a realistic target this summer.

Both Martinez and Pereira are available, they are the fans first and second choice (based on the toffeetalk vote). I think it is defiantely only a two horse race between Martinez and Pereira, as I beleive both want the job and both will have spoken to BK by the end of tomorrow. I don't t think BK will or actually need to look any further than one of these two.

I think both these candidates have positives and negatives, and I don't think there are any realistic better options available at the moment that would suit our club. Whoever comes it's a risk.

I would be fairly happy with either of these in all honesty, so I am fairly relaxed about it all now.

Did anybody manage to get on Pereira at 1/40?

    .

Actually I would have to say Martinez is my preferred candidate. I hope he gets the job.

  8.

    http://www.followtonians.com/?p=7361

    1240 votes , 91% Pereira and 9% for Martinez,

The vote on this site 22 (49% of vote) for Pereira and 11 for Martinez

These are reasonable snapshot to the 'fan's choice' of manager, but if you have evidence to the contrary that puts somebody else as a more popular 'fans' choice' then please post away, as i will listen to anything as long as it has some sort of coherent back up to it. Otherwis your just spouting off.

If you read my post, I didn't say he was the right man for the job, I said he is at very good odds at 40/1 in what is likley to be a two or three horse race. Considering the facts available to us.

Who do you have as the 'fans choice' then? - a little bit of back up though as you forgot to include it on your last responce.

I honestly did not think there was a favorite, but if I had to guess I would say Michael Landrup, but it has changed on here and in the news sometimes several times daily.

I couldnt get the skysports site to play the radio feature. Odd.

  10. It's time that I tell you kids about this great new system called the 4-4-2...

lol I was just reading post after post and wondered why everybody just assumes 4-3-3 because we can hardly break up our back 4 :P But tbh, A Jelavic - Mirallas striking pair could do pretty well when they're both in form and get used to each other.

If we get an exciting manager I would be curious to see 3 at the back with Baines and Coleman as attacking wing backs. I would also like to see Mirallas getting more time up front either as a second striker, or deep lying forward.

  11. Can't beleive the comments about Felli. If he leaves, and it's likely, he leaves a massive hole in our midfield. Yes, he's had some shit games, but he's been a beast either as a DM or an attacker, right at the centre of the team for the last 4 years - he's the best player I've seen at Goodison for years. You only have to look at other forums to see how they rate him, despite his sharp elboows.

I don't think anyone on here dislikes Fellaini, but most of us accept that it is only a matter of time before he leaves. We are just saying that it would be best to let him go, and let the new manager bring in an acceptable replacement before August 31st at 11:47 PM. Also, at his best he is the best player on the pitch, but match in and match out Baines is our best player, and I don't know how long you consider years, but in their prime the Cahill/ Arteta tandem wasn't far off of the best attacking midfield in the world.

    The European City is Valencia.

    Now confirmed:

I learnt that from the Karate Kid movie. :)

Are there no supporters clubs in your area ?

No, the closest is Chicago and I'm not even sure how serious they are. The only true fan groups we have over here are for USMNT, and they have only picked up in the last 10yrs or so. It is hard to get good matches in the Midwest. The sport is on a steady growth over here, but very few people I know are willing to get up at 7:30 AM to watch ESPN on Saturday. Hell where I live I am unable to get GOAL TV or Fox Soccer in HD. Its utterly ridiculous. I swear its like a 10-20/1 ratio of Nascar to European Football over here. MLS gets more tv exposure than in previous years, but the standard of play still inst there yet. Most MLS teams still build their teams with European cast offs, and unheard of Latin Americans. Its getting there though. Hopefully the league continues to grow, and if I am lucky Everton will make a midwest appearance sometime soon.

  13.

I get angered when I see Kit Kats getting all the exposure in vending machines - why they get all the coverage and we are left with the last 10 cm of the aisle??? I often think back to the glorious 80's when Hob Nobs were at their peak, one nible and your nobbled.

My tears of relief when we avoided being relegated to a Netto's own brand in the 90's. I just wish they were marketed correctly, I mean these johnny come lately's like Trackers taking up the limelight - what history do they have??? where were they when it was us Rich Tea, Digestive, Nice, and Bourbon Creams looking to create a biscuit super league???

But we will always have our wrapper to remind us of who we are and what wer achieved eh?

I don't understand half of this, but I enjoyed all of this.

  14. Pereira is the fans choice

What?!? Since when and according to whom. I will not bash Pereira because he won 2 Portuguese titles in 2 years, but explain something to me. How can you be so sure he is the right man on the job when he is moving to an infinitely more difficult league, and will be operating with 1/2 or possibly less of his current transfer kitty.

  15. As regards to Heitinga, he would raise a few million for the transfer chest.

I'm on the side of introducing Duffy more often cos i'd like to see the lad push on, maybe a new manager might do that.

Its definitely time for Duffy to push on. We need to know if he is good enough, and with Johnny not able to hold down a starting role let him and his high wages go.
