  1. Not if he's the same sort of cover as Mori and Galloway offer at LB.

In the limited amount I've seen of Riedewald, he looks a fair bit better than the two of them on the ball. But, obviously, he's not shown that in the Premier League. So, it's difficult to say. But, as a CB, he's got a big future ahead of him, I think. For the price, this would be a shrewd bit of business.

Also, the Echo (as well as this post) is misspelling his name.

  2. De bruyne has a better pass completion and key pass than gilfi for a reason. One was playing for a team with world class players one was single handily keeping a crap team up with crap players. Gilfy put balls into the right areas but he didn't have the players on the same wave length

I get that they aren't comparable players. This was the point I was trying to make by comparing #1 and #2 on that list. And, as I said, my issue with Sigurdsson is the amount of money we would be spending for the limited upside. I don't think he's a poor player by any means. I think he would do relatively well here (offensively, at least). But, again, I'd rather pay Barkley and try our hand at a few younger players with potential. If we spend 40-50m on Sigurdsson, he's going to be the expected starter. I'd like to see more competition between younger attacking mids like Barkley and Klaassen. Sigurdsson feels like a short-term solution that won't exactly pay for itself.

  3. Ugh. And he already told the press that Arsenal were in for him. http://metro.co.uk/2017/06/03/arsenal-striker-target-henry-onyekuru-confirms-bid-made-by-arsene-wenger-6682425/

Honestly sounds very similar to Rom. Not going to get playing time at Arsenal, or get enough time immediately at Everton, so loans to Anderlecht with the promise of more playing time in a year back at Everton in order to earn a switch to Arsenal. At least we have a bunch of other players who genuinely seem to want to be here. Maybe us getting in the top 4 this year might change that.

Hey, I won't begrudge him one bit if he takes the world by storm and we sell him for £100m. I could think of worse business models.

  4. Not really. His passing percentage is low, but that's because he's trying to cross more often than others do, so it's natural to misplace more crosses than short passes, so it's why his overall passing percentage bellow 80%. But you know it's more likely to create assist out of 10 crosses, and the other 9 being misplaced than making hundreds of successful nearby passes that provide no danger for the opposition.

Sigurdsson and De Bruyne average the same number of crosses per match. De Bruyne, however, has a much better pass completion percentage and makes almost one key pass more per match than Sigurdsson.

Sigurdsson isn't a bad player by any means. I just don't know that he's worth the type of money being talked about. I'd rather pay Barkley and try to find a few younger promising attacking mids for £10-20m a piece. Max Meyer is one that rings a bell.

  5. There are so many other young Mexican players I'd rather have (and likely for less or MUCH less money). Here are a few:

Jesus Corona (young and at Porto. Not only a versatile player for our front 4, but also has the nickname "Tecatito"... so, 2 cerveza names. Awesome.)

Hirving Lozano (young and just went to PSV. Winger who cuts in on his right foot and has a great shot. He will be a big deal. His nickname is Chucky. I can't figure that out. I really wish he looked like Chucky)

Erick Gutierrez (young, still playing in Mexico, can chip balls up the pitch like Gibson could, but offers more athleticism, a great shot and isn't hobbled)

Orbelin Pineda (young and still in Mexico. Scrappy, tricky, box-to-box player)

Jesus Gallardo (left back/left winger, young, still in Mexico)

  6. I think we can be fairly certain that Everton weren't the only club in for Sandro. Once the clause is triggered, it's up to the player where they would like to sign. He could've stayed at Malaga if he wanted to. He could've gone to any club that met the release clause. So, it would appear that we offered him the best combination of things that he was looking for, whether that means wages, opportunities, career prospects, concubines, etc.

  7. Why would utd loan him out though, I don't understand? Obviously they will save on half his wages, but if they feel he's not good enough for them anymore then surely they'd be better off selling him?

Possibly because the clubs offering to buy aren't clubs he would consider going to and United would rather get the wages (or a big chunk of them) off the books so they can keep rebuilding. Possibly because they would also want to do good by him for being such a big part of their success over the past decade or so.

  8. I've a horrible feeling this will turn out to be a bit of an embarrassment for all parties.

Hoping that's not the case though.

I don't think it will. I don't think anyone is under the illusion that we're getting the Rooney of a decade ago. He will most likely come in, score a few goals here or there, be a great commercial booster for the club, be an experienced and respected head for young players to learn from, and start to heal over some old wounds amongst the fans.
  9. Fast, aggressive and powerful. Like Deulofeu but not a dandelion. He really does seem a very similar player, but maybe a little bit better at pressing and with better stamina.

I don't think Muriel has the best stamina in the world. But, he would be a great addition to our attacking options.
