Very best of luck to him, good honest pro who always gave us 100% and made the most of his abilities. Top bloke off the field also, only ever hear good things about him and particularly his charity work. The game needs more like him with their priorities sorted.

Think if you look at the 140 day chunk of last season from the Liverpool theft defeat until we hit the buffers after the Fiorentina defeat you can see what we're capable of. It was 43 points from 19 league games (half a season) and only six defeats in 32 games overall (ManU, Arsenal, Chelsea x 2, Fiorentina and...er....Oldham). It was a game every four and a half days on average over the best part of five months which included the ANC where we were due to crash and burn. We scored 57 goals and conceded 22. It's fantasy because you can never get through a season (certainly not of the length of the one we've had) without injuries or fatigue but you could argue that we have the players already to break into the top four. The "Right Result" table (HERE) put us in fourth and if we'd got justice in the three games where we were blatantly robbed (Liverpool, West Ham and Blackburn) we'd have been very close. That's not to say I'd expect the same next year from the same players, Wyness is right to say (whatever his motives) that we overperformed, particularly in that middle part of the season. It'll be tough to stay where we are next season, but I can't wait for it to start!

Italian season's over. Fiorentina got a late goal (76) at Torino to hold on to fourth place and a Champs League spot. AC Milan into UEFA despite beating Udinese 4-1....so we'll have them in the final eh ?

I have Tesco's Finest* in honour of our glorious future benefactors (actually because I get as many Tesco points as poss to change into air-miles ). Bookies would suggest you're right, the "Without the *** four" odds for next season suggest a three horse race... Spurs 5/2, Villa 7/2 and us 7/2. After that it's Pompey at 7/1 and 10/1 or more anyone else.

First part doesn't work because you only get one vote anyway, not a 1-2-3, it's totalled and then the 3-2-1 awarded. Second is a possibility, but you'd still get people giving, say Hibbo, zero every week.....plus the fact I'd have to do a lot more adding which may make my brain ache .

It does need a rethink for next season, it throws up some odd results as it is. At least we got a winner I think few would argue with. You also need to bear in mind that it's an accumulation of Man of the Match rather than pure Player of the Season, and as such people who've stood out in a relatively few games may have got a fair few points when you wouldn't consider them for POTS when looking at the year as a whole. That's why Manny is so high, finished the season getting two or three points most games whereas Joey just lives up to our normal level of expectation week after week, so maybe we take him (and others) a bit for granted.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to get a positive response if you talk to the right people the right way Jackelz. You're wrong.
