  1. One of several good kids in the squad. The difference is he has half a season of Championship football under hs belt as a starter. Looks like a real athlete. Played RB for the Tykes but tipped to be a centre back. Distin's long term replacement?
  2. Unquestionablly. Massive praise to the scout who saw the potential in this boy. The idiots who abused him after his mistake last year at QPR are looking silly now. Brilliant for Blackpool in his loan spell there and grasped his chance with both hands in Hibbert's absensce. The ideal modern full back. Man of the match at Wembley against England. The lad is a star.
  3. Trappatoni also happy that McCarthy has joined The Blues. Looking forward to seeing him play. Seems like a grounded sort of cat too
  4. I have a feeling this game will kick start our season. If I hear one more pundit saying "Isn't it great to see Jose back" I will explode. He is a crass little git, a bad loser, an aldulterer and a coward < see his eye poke from behind on Tito Villanova> I'm going for a one nil Everton victory. Goalscorer Baines from the spot
  5. For me there is still no truly blinding pace in the team and little or no improvisation other than Pienaar trying to dribble and falling over when brushed. I also feel we lack a genuine tackle - although I think Barry will address that issue. Our wide players are foils for our attacking full backs and that is OK but we are a bit predictable. And obviously we need a commanding centre forward with an eye for a goal.
  6. Absolute sense. We had spells under Moyes when we could not score in a women's prison. The goals will come and Martinez needs time and support in the long term. I hate to use this example but Take a glance across the park. Plenty of "The faithful" were moaning about Rodgers at this point last season. They ain't moaning today.
  7. We really are blunt but that ball from The kid that no-one thought to gamble on near the end made me want to cry. I am very happy with the way we are playing otherwise. Some people were forecasting cricket scores against us based on Wigan's defending last year but it is at the other end where the problem continues. Please God Roberto can get someone in who knows the location of the onion bag before the clock chimes eleven. .
  8. Very balanced post. Often the movement of the forwards is key to the success of the midfield going forward. It is early days. Kone is not a 30 million pound striker. Only the Van Persies of this world generally hit the ground running. If he scores fifteen goals he will have been very decent business.
  9. I get the feeling a lot of punters have already made their minds up about Martinez - probably the same ones who did not want him in the first place.I hope he is given realistic targets and the time he needs to achieve them. We should have won the first two league games but sometimes the ball breaks favourably for the opposition or a keeper has a blinder. Do we look like a decent Premier League team? Do we have several good youngsters in the squad? I say yes to both. What we lack is glaringly obvious - and we do not have the funds to address it.
  10. Not getting on here as often as I hoped. My thought after three games is that if we had a clinical finisher we would have six points and be in the third round of the League Cup. Kone had a bit of a mare but he deserves a bit of patience as it was his first full game. My memory is he's the type who misses a few and then follows it up with a good performance. If we get a wad for either Felli or Leighton - or both - I'd bang it on Benteke and let Victor go to Hull.
  11. I went with a mate to see Arsenal play United in London two seasons ago. Wilshire was the best player on the park by a mile. He is similar to Liam Brady without the eye for a goal. Barkley looks very balanced and powerful. He can shoot with either foot, good range of passing. Like Souness without the dirt. I would say Wilshire is currently the better of the two.
  12. Respectfully disagree. Barkley should have had an extended run in the team and certainly should not have been dropped after his best game. Look how long Coleman had to wait for a proper run at right back and how well that has turned out as opposed to using him as a project right midfielder - where he was actually regressing.
  13. As has been proven with Seamus sometimes all a player needs in a chance. The late appearances as a sub and the daft loan to Leeds did not help young Ross last season. Great to see the new boss putting his trust in him. Moyes rewarded the kid's best performance last season - away to Arsenal - by dropping him. This is the boy who Cahill reckoned was destined for greatness. Fingers crossed.
  14. I think it is more a case of wondering if something new might be worh considering. Of course a performance and a victory like the one against City makes one look silly for even suggesting it.
  15. I also think Coyle will do well somewhere else. It should be remembered that O'Neill brought some good players to Villa who they sold on for profit. For me the timing of his leaving was the worst thing he did - but he left them far better than he found them even if he did spend a lot on wages. They were consistently in the top six. He simply wanted to push them higher. Not as patient as our man. I am not convinced about Lambert personally but I have a feeling they are going to just about stay up.
  16. Two enforced changes in midfield. Might see Moyes play Heitinga there in order to restore Jagielka to the defence if he is fit. He certainly deserves to keep his place based on last weekend. I'm guessing it will be Naismith for Pienaar. Pretty sure we have it in us to grind out a win as long as we defend set pieces properly.
  17. What are fantastic performance from all of them. Unexpected but most welcome.
  18. Me - just going to watch our game on tv followed by the two international rugby matches. Hoping for an Ireland win of course. Have a good one folks.
  19. Yep. Seamus has a huge engine and once the raw edges are knocked off him he will be a very good attacking RB. No way Trapatoni would keep picking him if he thought he was not up to it defensively. I watched him a few times playing for Blackpool < my mate is a Tangerine> and he was first class. I like Jimmy Kebe of Reading. Always gives us problems - a proper wide midfielder with a goal in him.
  20. I had decided long before Satutrday that something different is now required. So many missed opportuinities this season after an unusually good start. Lot of managers would kill for a chance to work with what we have and what we pay for it.
  21. I think they will take your cedit card details on the phone and you have to show the corresponding card when you collect the tickects. Have a great day.
  22. Agreed on this one. Pienaar has been well below his normal consistent standard since the turn of the year.
  23. Better not tell you how I feel about Neville's current abilities! We all have our favourites and there's nothing wrong with defending them. I just feel Heitinga - but for a good spell last season - is and has been a massive liability. For all his animated, agressive gesturing he loses the physical battle a lot of the time. I am afraid I expected more from someone of his supposed pedigree. Some of his performances this season have been truly woeful. I will withdraw the "gash" remark.
  24. You had me at "Clearing dead wood" T. Good shout.
  25. Well that didn't take long - for me to talk balls that is. Unfortunately I cannot go to many games any more due to the cost of travel from Ireland and my illness so I will take your word on his bond with the fans. Personally I see Heitinga largely as a phoney. I don't care if he pumps his fist a million times to the crowd it's what he does with the football after that in terms of playing that really matters to me. I think he is gash mate.
