I think he's one who will never be worth his hype. Think he will have a top career in a second tier league or be a middle-of-the-road player in Spain, Italy, England.
I agree with this completely
-
Glad I'm not the only one who wants to give the youth a chance. No thanks on this guy.
-
Great article dunc. I agree that RM had a way of being positive and getting confidence in players where it was lost previously. Barry, Lennon, Barkley, naisy, to some extent lukaku. I think he would be able to revive himself here.
-
If his last name was Smith people would call him shite and a donkey. Not exactly profilic even in a much weaker Portuguese league. 38 goals in 142 league matches. All competitions considered just over one goal in every four matches.
But as always, I reserve my judgement since I haven't seen him play.
Yeah from what I've seen he won't be challenging lukaku for top spot but could be an upgrade on Kone. He's 27 so he has that as well. If on a cheap it could be useful, otherwise I'd rather the creative player and wingers.

Sell him and play besic I'm only half serious

Dude it was crazy. 1-1 at half and on comes yedlin Williams and wood, off johansson beckerman and Shea. We're now down 3-1 it's over. Then we start playing counter attack. Brooks on a quick one and goal. Then we attack more and more on the counter get a corner and Williams hammers it in. He looked really good centrally. And now it's stoppage time the Dutch are like wtf how is America tied with us and boom Michael Bradley (please watch, takes it from our own half, gets tackled but stays up keeps going through 3 more guys passes to Jordan Rhodes who's puts a cross for bobby wood and bang we win. Wild last half hour man.Didn't get to watch but man, what a crazy result. COYUSMNT!
Our back line was woeful though. Chandler orozco, brooks, Shea, Alvarado got hammered. I fear for them against Germany.
Bradley was immense though. As the creative ACM he was the sole reason those counter attacks worked, he had a hell of a match.

Funny, thought he was a total donkey at the WC
Maybe you're just thinking the U.S. Game. He played very well the other 2 matches they played.
-
In America people get sentenced to 400 years jail without parole, they'll be dead in 50. Same principle.
Just an exhorberant amount to make sure it never happens.
they just call it a life sentence nowadays but i catch your drift.
-
just beat the dutch 4-3, hell yeah! goals by brooks, wood, zardes, and williams.
-
Robles?
jurys still out for everyone i believe. had some good spells this year, but RM won't play him. could turn out either way.
-
It just means they won't be forced into accepting a bid because no one will bid that high.
if they put it at 50m no one would bid, he's massively overrated and 27, i don't think anyone would pay 30m for him. why not a 50m or 40m buyout? that's my point, 150 is stupid.
-
Time will tell but for me he has gone to one of the worst clubs possible for him. If he thought OT and VP was bad just wait until the Red envy start on him.
after seeing how the goodison faithful treated ross and how a lot of people treat lukaku on here and elsewhere i'm not surprised in the least to see this. "most knowledgeable fanbase" it may be, but sometimes also the hardest on players and unforgiving. let's hope we are able to turn the corner with tom and not treat him like we did naisy we he first arrived.
-
Would cause chaos. Thirty-two teams worth of fans all in the same City? Potential for trouble would be enormous. No chance of it happening anyway and certainly no chance of a second stadium being used in Liverpool when they'll have the redeveloped Anfield available.
never thought of that. great point mike. dyke has come out and said no 2018 or 2022 in england so it's off.
-
lol is he still on the payroll? when is that contract up?
-
the more and more it's been coming the more i've warmed up to it. glad to have him as a blue. i hope he does play in a more advanced role though, the last thing we need is more dcm's (sorry ten).
-
150 million clause basically means there's no clause like with most players.
then why put one in? it's stupid. either put a reasonable one in, or don't put one at all. it's just being daft as the english say.
-
Smoking a nice dose of reality my friend.
McCarthy is more of a CM but get your point.
Besic - still unproven unfortunately.
Barry - legs have gone, quicker opposition he's shot.
Gibson - 1 in 10 games. No reliability.
We need someone to replace Barry. Fernando would have been perfect at the time.
you're crazy man. this is everton not chelsea. we have WAY more pressing needs, sure i'd love yaya toure in there as well, but we can't afford him.
Winger, Creative, and CB are WAY more needed than a DCM. MCcarthy and Besic do a job, Barry when not playing every match will do a job as well. Not sure why you'd want 5 DCM when we only have 1 RB? makes no sense
-
Cough! Err McGeady?
I would even put Barry as a good one to be fair. But agree with the rest.
Though MC has a point. A lot of hos signings haven't generated a lot of excitement. Where's the real MC gone...that's almost two days of making sense now.
okay here it is revised
Good
Lukaku, Gerry, McCarthy, Lennon, Besic, Barry
Bad
Alcaraz, Kone, McGeady, Traore
6 to 4, still good odds. you can count Barkley's resurgence down to him as well but he wasn't his signing.
-
I'd not include Barry there, even if he had a dodgy season (along with the rest). He was very good last year.
i'm with you matt, but mc doesn't see it that way, giving him the benefit of the doubt. even if you consider barry bad it's 5 and 3, for you and me it's 6 and 2. solid return in the transfer market.
-
wouldn't they just play all the matches in london? there's arse, spurs, chelsea, wembley, west ham , palace. that's 6 stadiums right there.
-
looked good in the WC for portugal. not sure how old he is but depending on price could be a nice signing.
-
no thanks, didn't like him and his dirty ways in the WC either. studs up for every tackle agaisnt the US.
-
Most of Martinez signings are uninspiring. We do need the types of players you mention.... Not sure he's got an eye for them though
talking shite mc. lukaku, gerry, mccarthy, lennon, besic. i'm very happy with all those. only knocks are kone, barry, alcaraz. 5 good, 3 bad, that's a great return mate.

At least we know so far the following:
1) He's already been at the club, liked it. He did well, considering age and previous first team experience.
2) He's not wanted in Barcelona. Pedro just renewed his contract until 2019, Traoré and Munir are other excellent prospects and he did no good at Sevilla, let's be honest.
3) Martinez is one of the few that A) could afford him and would be able to cope with his sh*t.
I mean, I also see it quite unlikely, but it might be one of the few opportunities to get a potential star on a discount price. The links are here, Barcelona has presidential elections and after the success of the signing of Suarez and after the excellent year Pedro had as a first-attacking-sub-that-does-not-moan I don't really see them getting Deulofeu back.
He has to move, in Spain he'll probably will not want to go somewhere less to Sevilla, most of the Spanish clubs can't afford his wages and if he has to move internationally, I don't see other place than Everton to go for him. Valencia would be another option for him, and I seriously doubt anyone in Spain wants him after this year.
I only hope the figures are £10m-£15m and not £28m!!
spot on. on a side note the pedro deal is ridiculous, 150m buyout clause? he's a super sub, i don't think anyone would pay 50m for him, he's 27 already!
anyways i completely agree, i don't think he would fit at atletico cause he's not a super hard working defender type. the only thing i could see him doing other than being sold is being loaned to a worse side so he could start every match in hopes he would do well and increase his value. but i'm hoping barca just sell him now to us, or a loan to buy or something.

Depending on cost and wages I'd much rather him to Evans. He would be worth signing to a decent contract in case stones leaves in a year or so as well. I like this move.
