  1. With a bit of luck we may now get a Speaker who returns to the convention of being impartial.
  2. My anti-EU stance goes back way before the referendum, back into the last century. The devious way the Lisbon treaty went through (we should have had a referendum) and Ireland being ordered to vote again just hardened my position.
  3. Palfy, the remain propaganda leaflet which was sent to every household in the country prior to the referendum stated: 'This is your decision, the Government will implement what you decide'. So, regretfully, any condition attached to a second referendum, wouldn't be worth the paper its written on.
  4. Palfy, whilst I don't consider the referendum as 'dead', I have posted on here that I do not fear a second referendum (even though I would still consider it undemocratic). I think leave would win it comfortably. However, I also think it wouldn't solve the current problems as I do not think Remain would accept that result either. There is a hard core of Remain supporters who treat the EU like a religion and they won't let go.
  5. Palfy, I don't agree that the last referendum is dead, not sure where you got that from? Regarding the votes against May's deal, there were probably more Remainers voted against than Leavers. I wonder why? Regarding you comparison of the Tory Party with Trump, Hitler or Stalin. I think you need to delete Stalin from that if you don't wish to upset Corbyn and his henchmen.
  6. Palfy, that was an odd choice of phrase. 'Boris in his attempt to take us out of the EU'? He is just doing what people voted for in the democratic referendum.
  7. Matt, One of the reasons I think Leave would walk a second referendum (regardless of what the polls say) is that the two worst PM's in living memory (even worse than May), - Blair and Major - are backing Remain. This will cost Remain a couple of million votes, particularly in the midlands and north. A Leave campaign slogan such as 'A vote for Remain is a vote for the London Liberal Elite' should garner another million or so. Remain should make sure that these guys and their ilk stay well away, but, of course, they are all buddies.
  8. Good on yer Mike. Just stare at the camera, point a finger and say 'If I can do it, you can do it'. Then play Z cars. Sorted. As Palfy says, its a no brainer.
  9. Excellent photograph on the front page of the Telegraph Sport today. Shows Jason Roy being bowled, middle stump, by Josh Hazlewood. Ironically, the advert, clearly visible on the stumps, is for 'Specsavers'.
  10. The reason I didn't respond was your comment wasn't worthy of a response. Explain how Leave.eu destroyed domocracy? Your post indicates that they have already done so. How? They have no legislative or Parliamentary power.
  11. No, what I was against was the options the Remainers wanted on the vote, always carefully thought out to give them an advantage. I want the same choice as before, Leave or Stay.
  12. Well the key is how the electorate will see it. Corbyn has been pushing hard for an election for some time. He's now backing off, frightened of losing as he's 10 points behind in the polls. That's how the electorate will see it - he's a loser. He also changes is mind like his underwear depending upon whose pulling his strings.
  13. Yes, I agree. A second referendum - bring it on. Same choice as last time.
  14. Mike In the unlikely event of the hypothetical happening, they would have to propose a second referendum. I am not fussed with this as Leave would walk it. Remain are backing off a second referendum in the same way Corbyn is backing off an election. I see he is following Blair's advice! I wonder who will be pulling his strings next week.
  15. The basis of our democracy is that MP's are servants of the people, not the people servants of MP's. I didn't agree with Tony Benn on most things but found his five questions concerning MP's. apposite. 1. What power have you got? 2. Where did you get it from? 3. In whose interests do you exercise it? 4. To whom are you accountable? 5. How can we get rid of you? The fact is, Leave won the democratic referendum vote. At the next election, the manifesto's of both the Tory and Labour parties stated that they would honour the referendum result. That accounted for approximately 80% of the votes cast. Parliament then voted to invoke Article 50 with an overwhelming majority. Anything which tries to usurp that is undemocratic, there is no logical argument against it. And just to remind you, the referendum question was 'Leave' or 'Remain'.
  16. That's the most stupid post I've ever read.
  17. So the people don't count. The remainers in Parliament are destroying democracy in this country. End of.
  18. That's not what I said? May's deal was REJECTED three times (as will any deal that Johnson comes up with). They are also fighting to eliminate 'no deal'. Wonder what the option is then?
  19. The Gauke's and Hammond's of this world will vote against any Brexit deal (as will all arch-remainers) which is why May's deal was voted down three times. They don't want a deal of any description, they want to remain in the EU.
  20. No deal is a mealy mouthed excuse for 'no Brexit'. They haven't got the guts to admit that is their objective.
  21. Pete0, just checked, in 1973 when we joined the EU (in the structure it then was) the average conversion rate for sterling against the US dollar was 2.40. Didn't half dive while we were members of the EU.
  22. Not sure if you ever looked up the youth unemployment figures for EU southern member states. Here are the 2019 figures, Greece 40.4% Spain 31.7% Italy 30.5% I'm sure they'd give their eye teeth to have the opportunities our lads have. As I said, it is scandalous, in modern times, that this situation prevails. Of course, it is partly self-inflicted via joining the euro. The currency that favours Germany and not many others. Being stuck in the euro means that they cannot resolve their financial problems and those youth unemployment figures a likely to be cast in stone.
  23. pete0, Have a Google and check what the pound was (to the US dollar) when we joined the EU.
  24. What is the youth unemployment in some EU member states? Greece, Italy, Spain. Take your time. (In modern times it is a scandal).
