RM on the rumoured Manchester United interest and possible bid for Seamus Coleman “It must be a different Seamus Coleman.”
Haha, awesome response from RM

He'll manage abroad in my opinion, or take the Scotland job if it becomes available.
I think he'll go abroad too. He has previously stated an ambition to manage in the Bundesliga one day, before the United job came up of course

FIFA's existing rules allow it, under FIFA's unamended rules it's two years as we (England and Wales in this case) share a common passport. It's the Home nations agreement that prevents it.--Is it controversial that I see this as tokenism ?http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tees-26512921From what I can see on Wikipedia, he made 16 (league) appearances in his career.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Wharton
Funnily enough after reading his Wikipedia I clicked on the link of Andrew Watson, who pre-dated him by over a decade and played 3 times for Scotland. Also played for Bootle!
I don't have an issue with memorialising Wharton as I think it's important to remember how far we've come (look how bad things still are in Russia and other leagues), but I do think this Watson chap should be equally remembered

Any rumours about how much ours is worth? On a side note, I hope QPR don't get promoted

Be known as a good season for us though, it's a disaster to them!
Total disaster yeah, I think they'll wait until the summer though and see if anyone else is available, or can be tempted. (Klopp maybe?). A win on Saturday and we're 6 points better off than the same stage last year, and quite possibly on the way to surpassing Moyes' highest ever points total for a season, I hope.

Ben Smith: This time last season, David Moyes' Everton had 48 points from 29 games, having scored 46 goals & conceded 35. This season, David Moyes' Manchester United side have 48pts from 29 games, having scored 46 goals and conceded 34 ...
He's consistent I'll give him that!

In this specific instance I wasn't joking or wrong.
Have to say I didn't realise competitive matches at youth level had any bearing on the senior team. I did already make the same point about Costa's Brazil games being friendlies though. And my point about the home nations agreement means that all this is moot, unless a player has been here for 5 years before his 18th birthday (I think?) then it's irrelevant they'll never be eligible for the home nations unless a policy change happens. I stand corrected regarding the youth competetive matches though

So Louis isn't wrong then?
I wouldn't want to say Louis is wrong, I'm new ish here haha! He isn't cap tied as he hasn't played a competitive game for the senior side. But he still can't play for England due to home nations rules, we don't accept the FIFA residency rule over here, not currently anyway....
-
I thought you could change allegiance as long as you hadn't played for the senior side?
Correct yeah. Even if you've played a friendly for the senior side you still can. Diego Costa has 2 friendly caps for Brazil and is now representing Spain. However the home nations have different rules above and beyond FIFA's 5 year residency rule. Something about 5 years before the age of 18 I think

Lacked a cutting edge for large periods, was very frustrated up until the winner then huge relief at that point. To be fair their keeper made 3 or 4 worldies. In the end 3 points is what matters, need a better performance next time out though

On a free that would be awesome. I'm sure a few clubs will be in for him

Those same people were calling the thread when I started it. So far it's been proved right. The season fell apart from mid January and I'm massively dissapointed we are having to settle for Europa league in March and that's still an "if".
What's wrong with having a realist opinion and talking about it on the forum? Why should I be positive when results aren't? And if i'm not I get called a WUM. I'm only being myself and saying it as I see it. So you may disagree with everything I say but I'm not doing it as a wind up and I'm certainly not a Kopite.
That's all fair enough as far as I'm concerned. Opinions are opinions and you're entitled to yours, some of them I've agreed with and some of them I haven't. All I will say is that trying to put a racist spin on the phrase 'calling a spade a spade' was definitely out of order. It wasn't said in that way at all, not even slightly, and as Haf has pointed out it's a valid expression that's been around for many years. It's like when people object to 'the pot calling the kettle black', another phrase that is not at all related to race.

For the 5th time, 6th place is now Europa since man city won league cup and will get champs. MikeO has mentioned this ad naseum, also look at the espn table, they have the places highlighted so it's easy to see.
We know, the comments above were tongue in cheek due to the number of times this has been asked / discussed...
-
has he mentioned something?
Considering 5th to 7th place is our average final spot in recent years, you'd think someone would have asked this already before now! Surprised it's never come up....
(quick, everybody hide)
-
so if city finish in the top 4 does the europa spot go to the league?
not sure if it goes to 6th or 7th place. Can it go to 7th place?
We need to wait for MikeO, he'll know the answer!
Haha!

64 points then if history prevails in every fixture. Moyes' highest points total was 65 I think, so that would be pretty good really for a season of transition. I'm still hopeful of averaging 2 points per game and finishing with 70 fingers crossed!

Negotiating tactic? How so? We paid more than we were wanting to...
We didn't have the money Wigan wanted until Fellaini went, that's why it wasn't until late that we signed him. If you can't see that then I feel sorry for you.
I appreciate you haven't been following Everton all that long so you haven't repeatedly seen this sort of thing, so I'll just have to let you off until you learn .
When it comes to transfer funds this club has more than earned a high level of distrust.
I think you're right that if the Fellaini deal had fallen through then we wouldn't have been able to sign McCarthy, the money wouldn't have been there. But in terms of the McCarthy fee I don't think we would have got him any cheaper even if it had been done early in the close season, Whelan a shrewd businessman for sure. Look at the fees he got for N'Zogbia and Palacios for example.

Picking the best players in each position isn't 'playing favourites', it's just picking the strongest team. Baines would quite rightly replace Oviedo in the team when back to full fitness after an injury, because he's one of the best full backs in the world. Playing favourites would be sticking with a player who's on a terrible run of form whilst overlooking someone else and not giving them a chance. This hasn't happened under Martinez as yet.
-
All this debate about Robles is pretty irrelevant because he wasn't at fault for any of the goals. And he was the defending FA cup winning keeper. If Howard gets injured he'll be playing week in week out, so wouldn't we rather have him with a few games under his belt rather than coming in cold with no understanding between him and the CB's?

we've apparently got a new manager now
I can confirm that we've definitely got a new manager
