He was England's best player in Euro 2004! Have England ever performed in his career at a Euro or World Cup? Messi has never done it at world level either! What is world class then? Messi and Ronaldo fall under the "Best players in the world" and there is nobody else who stands near them, maybe Suarez. There is then the level below like Ribery, Ibrahimovic, Schweinsteger, Pirlo etc etc . Rooney belongs in the list even if it is based on past seasons. Under Moyes our squad was always pin thin. With 12-13 decent lads. But injuries to our top players usually had a real affect on our season. For me this season has had a good few serious injuries. Ones the squad could have done with out. However I believe the squad has been big enough to deal with them and in terms of players slotting in I think this is the best squad as a whole we've had for a decade. There's players like for like everywhere. Even without Gibson and Kone we've had good cover everywhere. Thoughts?

I think we need to spend £20m+ on a striker. Obviously they need to be tried and tested. With Rom a near 1 in 2 ratio over 2 seasons in the premier league is very good. I think we need to do our best to sign him. Obviously having a plan B though.

Other teams will be willing to pay upwards of that. It's all about what Chelsea want and who's willing to match it or exceed it.
