  1. Same XI as Bournemouth. Too often guilty of hyperbole and this is impossible to prove but I really feel this game can define our season - or at least January and February. Win at Southampton and the sustained momentum carries over to Millwall which carries over to the now manager-less Huddersfield. Then you're in or close to 7th with Wolves, Watford and an FA 5th round tie before Man City visits. We could be rolling. I always come back to this - it's the hope that kills you...
  2. Mostly repeating what’s been said... hope we can look back on this game as a turning point. We very very rarely win these types of games but it’s so encouraging when we do. The grit, heart and team camaraderie made this my favorite game. So encourages by Lookman being influential for 90 mins. It’s the first time he’s been able to do that. Needs to start until further notice. Richarlison is not a striker. DCL is the answer for this season at least. Give him the remaining games and see if you need to buy a new striker in the summer. Tremendous team defense today. Keane is incredible as long as you don’t pass him the ball. So dominant in the air. Digne is just pure class. Zouma’s celebration leaves me wondering if he’ll want to stay long term. Lastly, I’ll disagree with others in that I don’t think it was that bad of a performance from the ref. Not good sure but far from some of the Moss/Mason games. I hate those two. The card disparity was deserved. The only thing I was discouraged by today was our childish behavior towards the ref. Schoolboy immaturity.
  3. Séamus and Cahill. Tim is the reason I chose this club. Not Howard, McBride, Moore, Donovan or Preki.
  4. Can we change the title to 18-19 FA Cup so it can live on with other draws/news? Ball 7 tonight. Just want to be drawn at home don't care if that means we get one of the big boys.
  5. I'm a Jordan fan. That being said if someone wants to come in with 50 million plus for him I'd take that and buy Dubravka from Newcastle. He's class and Ashley is always desperate for money. Use the surplus to buy a great RB.
  6. Should we expect no news until then? Funding? Announcements on other developments in the immediate vicinity of the stadium - condos/retail/parks etc.? Genuinely asking as an American whose processes for stuff like this could be vastly different.
  7. Nevermind. Stek Coleman Keane Mina Baines Gana Davies Lookman Siggy Bernard DCL Bench: Virginia Jags Digne McCarthy Richarlison Niasse Tosun Gomes and Walcott shouldn't be in the 18.
  8. Shocked by the lack of commentary on Richarlison. He has been largely anonymous for more than a month now. Really worrying that. Gomes and Walcott were horrendous. Keane's game-changing mistake offset the other 89 mins of great play. Perhaps it's a bit harsh but Pickford should be saving Vardy's shot. Kenny's defending was excellent, his attacking was the exact opposite. One of the worst crossers of the ball I can remember. Agree wholeheartedly with Keith. Brilliant post and a terrific assessment of what we need - and more worryingly haven't had for years. We should strive to emulate Dortmund in every way. They are a transfer market/team building masterclass. It's not impossible, it just requires two incredibly difficult things to find - vision and leadership. In football, one isn'tt good enough. Hopefully Brands is the man to provide both.
  9. Virginia kenny jags Mina baines davies McCarthy beni lookman tosun dcl agree on holgate being unavailable. Put some kids on the bench - sambou, Hornby, adeniran
  10. Schedule oddity - all 6 games away in first half, all 6 games home in second half. Goal difference so far: -10. When we face City in February it will have been more than 2 years since our last league win against the top 6. 11-12: 3-1-8 10pts; 12-13: 3-6-3 15pts; 13-14: 4-3-5 15pts; 14-15: 1-4-7 7pts; 15-16: 1-5-6 8pts; 16-17: 2-4-6 10pts; 17-18 0-4-8 4pts; 18-19 0-1-5 1pt Utd 4-3-9 15pts; City 3-5-7 14pts; Chelsea 3-3-9 12pts; Spurs 2-5-8 11pts; Arsenal 2-4-9 10pts; Shite 0-8-7 8pts Last time we beat each team in the league: Utd - April 26 2015 City - January 15 2017 Chelsea - September 12 2015 Arsenal - December 13 2016 Spurs - December 9 2012 Shite - October 17 2010 Last time we beat a top 6 team away: December 4 2013 Record since 11-12 in games against top 6 away: 1 - 15 - 32
  11. Just getting Gomes permanently would be outstanding. January about getting players out and clearing the budget/wage bill for summer: Sell: Schneiderlin, Niasse or Tosun Loan out: Holgate, Dowell, Beni Players out on loan who could/should be sold immediately: Martina, Pennington, Bolasie, Sandro, Garbutt, Mirallas, Tarashaj
  12. We will likely go back to 4 at the back- think Marco wanted to match Burnley's 2 strikers with 3 CB's. Brighton completely different set up.
  13. We’re fine as long as Gomes or Siggy don’t get sent off
  14. McCarthy’s first appearance should not be against the burnley bullies. Completely unfair to him if in the lineup today. Davies and Beni if need be.
  15. Depth reminder: GK: Pickford/Stek/JVirginia RB: Coleman/Kenny/Martina CB: Keane/Mina/Holgate/Pennington LB: Digne/Robinson Holding Mid: Gana/Davies/McCarthy/Beni/Schneiderlin/Besic/JWilliams Attacking Mid: Gylfi/Vlasic/Dowell Wingers: Richarlison/Walcott/Bernard/Lookman/Onyekuru ST: DCL/Tosun/Niasse Jags, Baines, Williams contracts expire Zouma, Gomes loans end Useless back from loan - Bolasie, Sandro, Connolly, Garbutt, Mirallas, Tarashaj
  16. Pickford Zouma Keane Mina Digne Gana Gylfi Beni Walcott Richarlison Lookman It's Burnley so not worried about Zouma being exposed out wide. He will add a third aerial presence to Dyche's controlled long ball strategy. Who knows who's fit in midfield? Gomes, Gana, Davies, McCarthy, Beni, Schneiderlin. Pick 2. If Lookman out injured throw Bernard in there. Think Richarlison can cause problems more problems than DCL/Tosun as the striker in this game.
  17. Last point...never easy giving up 6 at home but I would so much rather do that (occasionally ) than watch what we went through last year. I have never been more discouraged in 15 years as an Everton fan than i was just 6-8 months ago. We will never be top 4 if we don't try to play against them. Trying to go toe-to-toe with the big boys also helps us play better football, and take more points, off the lower teams. It's not happening yet and we shouldn't expect it to! This is a slow build. We lost 6-2 at home and we are still miles and miles ahead of where we were just in May. Patience is difficult, I screamed multiple obscenities yesterday I'm not proud about, but I see a team being constructed carefully and thoughtfully. That's where the bar is now thanks to Koeman and Sam.
  18. Notes from yesterday: Richarlison is completely anonymous when needed most. That needs to be fixed more than any other weakness in the squad. Yes Davies had a bad game. He was put in a no-win situation. Davies is a younger, far worse Gomes. As folks have said knife through butter with those two centrally. Say what you want about Gana, I happen to like him alot, but if we're committed to Gomes we need to be committed to Gana, or a player with a similar skill set. Sigurdsson's work rate is absolutely spectacular. I cannot remember a player who works as hard as he does in that role. Makes me want to watch the game while on a treadmill. Spurs clearly the more clinical team but I do wonder what happens if DCL makes it 2 and Pickford stays on his line so Zouma can very easily head it back to him. Never a foul on DCL and Pickford had an absolute nightmare in the first half. Unsettled the back line for the rest of the day. Said this last week as well. I love Seamus more than any other player in a blue shirt currently. I would love to see him on the bench every week. Do we go to Mina and Zouma from here? Keane won every single aerial challenge over Kane. Not sure if CB's can be blamed despite shipping 6. Most discouraging was having to watch Schneiderlin make another appearance. Gutless loser should never be allowed to play for the club.
  19. Come on nogs that's ridiculous. If it were that easy we would be in the top 4 not endlessly chasing it.
