Absolutely a few places - you can include last season as well. Joel is learning and not an "ace" yet, but his overall presence is far and above Flappy Howard at this point.

Clev, Mo, and Lennon get my picks for the three most improved players of late, and the three that have made the greatest impact on the pitch in the last few matches (well Mo before his injury).

    Yes please.

My sister had a pet pig for a while - it grew WAY bigger than the guy who sold it would. The thing was smart as fuck - it opened the kitchen cabinets one time, and managed to twist off the caps to like three (3) 2-Liter bottles of soda and destroyed them - all over the kitchen! She had the thing potty-trained like a fucking cat - it used to shit in a litter box! Then one morning my sister was getting ready to go to work and had it chained outside (like a dog) to one of those metal corkscrew things you twist into the dirt (not sure if you lunatics have those in the UK or not?), but anyway, it managed to pull the corkscrew out of the ground, got tangled in a nearby bush, PULLED the bush out of the ground with the corkscrew/chain, and then proceeded to run down the middle of the street dragging a huge bush by the chain around its neck, with my sister chasing it and screaming at it, all in her work clothes. Insane. They had to get rid of it and bring it to a farm. I think its still alive.

Bravo to Joel. Keep him in, give him time to learn, shine, absorb, etc. Howard is not the future of this team anymore, plain and simple.

Another clean sheet, that's all that matters. This is what this team needs more than anything.

^ Don't have the answers, but yeah I pretty much agree at this point. For all the bells and whistles, I think we need something simpler that goes from A to B in a reliable manner.

Its the next PL match - the actual next match is Carlisle on Sunday but I don't think we predict non-PL matches.

chalkpie got a reaction from Gwlad in Why do the journalists give Martinez a pass?
I hope the journalists are reading this thread, because that is my intent........

Why do you give Martinez a pass and skate around the tough questions? When was the last time ANY journalist asked what is Martinez's plan to build this defence? What's the plan in detail?

(for Martinez specifically): Why do your players look so lethargic on the pitch? What is your solution to motivate them? You promised a better season one year ago, yet we sit in the same spot in the table - why? Are you fearful of getting sacked due to poor results? Why are you so resistant to changing your philosophies when the current ones clearly aren't working? Are you worried that the fans have had enough of the results this season and are ready to abandon ship? How much more time do you need to start getting some results? Why do some of your players look like they would rather be elsewhere when they are on the pitch?

Journalists can start there. None or very little is being asked towards Martinez. He is a big boy who gets paid a lot of money to get positive results and those results are virtually non-existent. Why does almost every other manager including Mourinho, Van Gaal, Rodgers, Sherwood, etc all get bombarded with the tough questions and Martinez gets a pass? The insanity of this situation is almost not believable.

Journalists: Please, do your job, and stop avoiding the tough questions. These players make a ton of money and need to be held accountable, and its starts at the top with the manager. Martinez owes everybody answers, regardless of how uncomfortable they may be.

I don't agree with you per se, but I commend you for having the patience to stick with him for this long. I just can't do it. I love the guy (bullshit and all) - lovely person - probably the nicest manager in the prem - but my gut tells me he just isn't the right bloke for this club. Maybe another set of players would work better with his vision, but as of now I'm not feeling it.

Who knows - maybe you're right - and he will come good after all of this. I would love to eat crow on this RM scenario

    Congrats Mikey-O!

So let me ask this: During normal 45 minute play if there is a 90 second celebration (which is not uncommon at all), does the ref add those 90 seconds onto stoppage time?

I've been one of Howard's most intense critics - the guy had an amazing match. Good for him - credit where credit is due. The moment he starts sucking ass again and then has the balls to show his arrogance along with it, then he'll get stick again. Until then he is on my good side. Way to play Howard - you had a balls-to-the-wall match and you saved out hide tonight. A pint raised to you tonight.

I think Besic could have that captains role within a few years. He has the attitude and passion for it. I mean, he has to play first of course!

Martinez will have only himself to blame if this happens due to his ineptitude regarding the keeper situation and the defensive training, set pieces, crosses, etc.

Depends on the shots on target/Goal ratio,no? Most goals in the Prem are teams ranked 1, 2, 3, 4, and 11. Guess who sits 11th? BARRRFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We should win this match but unless we change our vulnerable aspects (which our common knowledge at this point), then we'll lose again. Howard, crosses, counter-attacks, set pieces in general, conceding possession in the midfield due to poor passing, and an overall abilty to give the opposition Xmas gifts near the end of matches. So yeah, good chance we'll come out with no points on this one. We're so very consistent in those areas.
