  1. Makes me feel a little better. One things that makes me feel worse in Van Der Vart cost £8m
  2. most players are around 11 stone ish. The fact is he is weak. Messi is light but has a low centre of gravity so he can utilise what mass he hass effectively, tim Cahill is no monster but look at the way ge roughed up vidic. Pienaar for his size will take knocks, stabilise with balance and keep the ball. The problem with billy is that he is has no bulk, has no grit, his balance is not the best. The other night he fell after the slightest nudge, lost the ball and Bolton went on an attack and nearly scored. The main factor that concerns me about him is that he has no mental or physical tenacity, you see players with it and the ones who don't have it stick out like a sore thumb. Forget technique, you need to earn the right to play. To add to that you never see him beat a man. I don't see an £11m footballer I'm afraid. Trust me, I wish I did.
  3. My concern is his value, not worth anywhere near what we paid. £11m is gonna see a loss, be lucky to get £7m for him. Still.... Pool the money we could get from selling mr bayern Munich, man city come get me as I've played in the world cup final and can't be arsed anymore. We could get £15m for him, leaves a tidy £20m to work with.
  4. Be a great 5 a side player. In all seriousness he is never likely to become a central player as he lacks physical strength or athleticism. Tidy enough but that aint it in our league. He's a player who would do well in the Italian league. Be interesting to see him after getting a bit of weight on with a little hunger, never gonna happen, doesn't have enough heart for me.
  5. Admittedly spurs are run very well commercially, however they are a similar club in size and history something we should aim for. We are making progress commercially but we have some ground to make up. Unfortunately the money sitting in the bank accounts of the main shareholders is not being used, the club is leveraging its funding through loans against its name. Pretty much a similar scenario we have seen elsewhere. The reality is the share prices will be way more thsn what they acquired them for, why not use the collateral so to speak?
  6. Kenwrights consortium bought 68% of the club for £20mm in 1999, giving it a valuation at that time of £29.4mm. Since then a £30mm loan was secured from Bear Sterns which will cost the club £68mm over the term of 25 years (£4mm a year just on interest). In that time we have bought finch farm (the land) sold it to a development company for £8mm and will rent it for £1mm a year over 50 years? Commercially we ain't great, £9.2mm revenue compare that to Spurs with £28.7mm.
  7. never understood the likes of lampard, drogba, gerrard etc taking corners and the same goes for Arteta. You want your clean ball strikers on the edge of the box ready to pick up the headed clearance which is usually the outcome from an arial ball in. How many times have you seen scholes smash one is and score or pretty much near as do so. As far as corners go, unless you are looking at an Andy Hinchcliffe esque delivery, you want to make it beat the first man and give the keeper and defenders something to think about. Does it really take a dead ball specialist to take a corner? You want someone who can put it in the mix with some pace, anything other than hitting the defender on the near post. Apart from that our strikers haven't been scoring as saha is only just getting back, Yak is still and has not been fit and beckford will take time - that's if he get's there. We have been crying out for a striker since Yak got injured. Apart from the injury prone saha who else is there?
  8. Pretty much why i've quit on the topic a few rows down. Alot of opinions have been made on 'unproven facts' - mine included. Unfortunately these days as fans we don't get transparency. Fact is, Moyes has done a great job over the last month. Applause.
  9. Be careful now Romey, you may end up posting 7 or 8 times to justify such a comment.
  10. Yep, get straight back on the team with the shepards crook aiming straight for mr heitinga. A spell of playing in the reserves till he finds his "form" will not go a miss. Maybe a rainy night in front of a few hundred fans is what he needs to banish the dillusions of grandure the world cup has given him.
  11. Yak came off at right time he was heavy legged. Heitinga was a joke, sell him as far as I'm concerned. Does not want to play for us. Coleman and pienaar were great, wanted more from arteta to be honest. Can't believe we didn't win
  12. Did I see a vote for tim Cahill!?! Good headed goal and that's about it. His pathetic lazy leg attempt near the end resulted in Howard having to tip over. Seriously, Coleman, pienaar and distin are the only condensers. As for heitinga, get rid.
  13. I'm neither stupid nor too young, so let's leave the insults aside, if the is anything lacking it is your inability to clearly comprehend a post before your hackles are raised and you post something such as above. The Peter Johnson chestnut makes me chuckle because he is only ever mentioned to justify bill kenwright as being a saviour. Right let's get this out the way, he took over and appointed David moyes, agreed? Since taking over he has overseen the kings dock fiasco, fortress fund lies, ntl funding failure, kirby, a net spend of £3m per season. His only saving grace is that manager has performed miracles. So to the point that you had the most misfortune to fail to grasp properly Is that what we have on the pitch is not down to him!!! It is in spite of him. Unless you can tell me that he has extensive knowledge of footballers abilities and sourced the likes of pienaar, arteta etc? For pennies Took them for training, did half time talks and made substitutions (maybe he could do that better than moyes). He hasn't been the man to take us forward for the past 7 or 8 years. He should have been a caretaker chairman, the problem is he clearly loves his position too much and has far more celebrity than he should. It is getting embarrassing seeing him continually spout nonsense of how he wants to give David money to spend, he has had years to get it sorted, he hasn't managed it, move on. Anyway, how much is the club up for sale for? Sorry don't want to bore you.
  14. I love the Peter Johnson chestnut, always makes me chuckle. A bit like our mate Cheryl telling all her mates "ashley isn't that bad, he cheated on me with a hairdresser, it could have been worse, it could have been with jordon" A net spend of a little over £3m a year, selling players to buy, not owning our own training ground, going further into debt. The facts are there, you keep desperately pointing to improvements, we have to a large extent been treading water. In four to five years time where do you see our net spend of £3m a year getting us in replacing the likes of arteta, Neville, Cahill, yak, Saha, hibbert, osman. Without serious money coming into our club, how are we going to do this? Yes, the answer will be to sell rodwell, fellaini and replace them with diluted versions which may or may not pay off. We need to be in a position to supplement their talents. One the saleable assets would have gosling, less said the better eh. You still think bill is the man to take us through transition? Now I await the usual "he has steadied the ship" - if that means spending no money whilst moyes performs miracles then yes he has. Anyone been watching spurs and wondering what might have been if we pushed the finances out before playing villareal?
  15. How is that a ridiculous comment? You clearly can't establish the difference between the role of a chairman and a football manager. Your analogy is ridiculous, you are basically implying that if we are ok on the pitch how can everything in the board room be bad?! To correct yout analogy, I am saying that Cheryl cole is gorgeous and can't believe she wasted so much time with someone who deceives, lies and is money mad, when she deserves far better. If anything she enhanced his reputation and publically supported him till his true colours were shown. Some people knew he was no good, she just didn't want to believe. Is that ridiculous?
  16. I agree. Plus.... Bodymoor Heath training ground to boot, he also has given them more corporate boxes in order to generate the type of cash that allows the likes of arsenal to be self sufficient. I'm not for one saying that bill is to blame because he can't do all that. Equally he should not be lauded because he isn't Peter Johnson. I respect the good he has done and hate the failures because ultimately it impacts everton f.c. He is in a position of some strength due to the team punching above it's weight in terms of funding the manager has had to work with vs results. If we were perennial relegation battlers I would guess many more fans would see through his teary eyed emotions, the fear of seeing our club trying to survive on scraps would see a very different reaction by many.
  17. Re-read what I wrote. I said "Would Bill stand up and be successful in an Apprentice style bun fight?" - so it's not absolute nonsense. The reason being that is the part of the show where big questions are asked, lies are expected and flaws are exposed. It usually involves numbers being crunched. This is where Kenwright has failings. His tenure has been a mixed bag of highs (Moyes) and lows (fortress fund lie, kings dock, Kirkby) unfortunately the lows have been costly. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/e/everton/1454035.stm - Missed opportunity As for Lerner, I wasn't aware he was responsible for spotting players, coaching and making decisions on the pitch? He has invested a net spend of over £20m a year a Villa, so I really do not kinow what you are talking about. Maybe you confused him with Martin O'Neill. For me Lerner has made a substantial financial backing of his manager who under performed. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/27/randy-lerner-aston-villa - imagine that level of investment What has setting up a theatre company got to do with running a football club? He hasn't bought his own football club, he invested some money and borrowed money to get his level of shares. I doubt you have read the original post to be honest.
  18. I think that is why I like him. Give him a year or two he may have developed that balance. Remember him playing for Chester and he was a quality player who has come from good footballing stock. Whilst I think moyes has given us so much I can't help but crave a little gung ho mentality. As much as I hate the barcodes I really enjoyed their demolition of Sunderland. Something I haven't seen us do to a team for a while.
  19. No worries. Interestingly was watching Martinez on sky sports earlier. Certainly a manager with a bright future. Should the time come when moyes becomes disgruntled at lack of transfer funds or fancies a change, he would be a suitable candidate.
  20. Was 4th, now 5th after arsenes new deal. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2010/08/25/2085955/in-pictures-the-ten-highest-paid-football-managers-in Again looking at the list he is highly paid, stand corrected on highest paid not to win anything, Mancini, then again those clowns at eastlands will pay their kit men a few grand a week.
  21. Billy lacks the desire to play for Everton, has no heart at all. Sell for £8m, go for Jarvis.
  22. It's all down to personal opinion. My opinion is wanting to play for a club for the right reason (not money) is often the make or break as to whether a player will perform to the best of their abilities. When money is the deal breaker you often find that the level of commitment is not there. Saha is a prime example - great when he was closing his contract down, give a new contract - where has he gone? Look at the players at city, more money is not always rewarded with increased performance. Adebuyor? Give me the £3m version on £30k a week - not the overpaid mercenary who liberally discusses moving to Juve from Man City less than a year after a mega deal. I believe Pienaar to be an honest pro, someone who has a work ethic. He is no doubt happy at the club, listening to Jags and Tim, the spirit at the club is a credit to Moyes. For Pienaar, that along with a very good contract offer from a club that relaunched his career is not enough. It appears to me that his motivation is not playing for Everton, but is money - when money is your prime motivation then it's time to say goodbye. Arteta could have gone to Man City and been paid more money. He stayed on a very good contract, but it is clear money is not his main motivation. Pienaar wants the money, simple as that.
  23. Strikers need to play regular to be sharp, they need to be sharp to be on top of their game and score regular. We only have one striker without any overriding fitness or injury concerns and he ain't good enough. Santa Cruz, big No No
  24. It is exactly that - trading old car for new car, that is the business. Fergie has done this at Man United and Wenger at Arsenal. Beckham (28), Van Nistlerooy (29), Stam (28), Ince (28, Viera (28/29) Henry was old at 29 near 30. Combine the cost of all these players at their ages and compare what they achieved after their moves in terms of what they did before? Pienaar is 29 in March. A five year contract will take him to 34 years of age - do you think he will offer the same industry in 3 years? I don't. The game is getting quicker, more physical, all the time. Moyes thinks he is worth X amount a week, Pienaar wants more and Moyes has taken the right stance in my opinion. Afellay is an example rather than a genuine option. There are lots of potential superstars out there that would be within our reach, what would Adam Johnson be worth now? - we should and maybe could have got him if we went for a fee earlier rather than wait for the others to join in the window where he went for undisclosed amount. The future of the club does not rest in Pienaars hands, and it is important to consider the total cost of the deal rather than "it's just an extra £10k" - which many fans are saying.
