Can we give this thread a rest now. He's our player - like it or not. Lets not judge his every bloody touch in every bloody match. Let him play and we'll see what happens. This is a very boring discussion now.

I think we've reached the stage now where all of our main targets have gone elsewhere because we couldn't compete financially for them. Something seriously is wrong at our club.

We knew since May that both Alcaraz and Distin would be leaving (possibly before that as Martinez released them) and with 3 days to go before our first game... WE STILL HAVEN'T BOUGHT ANYONE IN TO COVER THE CB POSITION!!!! How shit is that??

He's an Everton player at the moment so lets support him eh? Unbelievable the amount you slate him, honestly is Haf, when in truth he was nowhere near our worst player last season. Yes, he has weaknesses, loads, but while he's our player I'd rather support and encourage him rather than knock him down. He has a lot to learn but he's a good striker and looking at our squad I'm bloody glad we have him as our CF. I personally think he'll have a brilliant season next term.

Is that true? I must admit that when he eventually came back and had a run of games (before getting injured again) he looked the sharpest and leanest I've seen physically wise.

You're not the first Englishman to tell me that. From a Welshman's point of view my opinion of the England national team is that they're very boring and lacking any sort of spark to raise you off your seat. Hodgson has a part in that though, christ he's a boring man and I just can't see him being able to motivate an England team. He has no personality whatsoever. You have a terrible group as well. No real challenge there so you can stroll through without really being tested and then when you actually play a good side you seem to struggle. Is this the feeling of most England fans?

Sorry not having that. Since when is Ashley Williams and James Chester championship level? Add Neil Taylor to that as well who plays week in week out for Swansea. Gunter could play in the prem as well. We've only conceded 2 in this group (penalty and free kick) and I highly doubt a championship level defence could contain Belgium Home and Away as well as Bosnia and Israel. Bit disrespectful.

Honestly thought we weren't that bad today. Wasn't great but we were better than some performances we've witnessed this season (Hull home & away, West Brom home, Southampton away spring to mind) where I felt we did bugger all throughout the game other than piss about with the ball at the back. Today I felt we at least looked dangerous and had some intent on attacking but it just didn't happen through a combination of poor finishing and bad luck. Sunderland on the other hand defended all game and scored two very lucky goals. The way it goes sometimes. I will put this one down as a 'one of those days' performance rather than blame the tactics or players. What we desperately need though as others have mentioned is an Attacking Midfielder who can cut open defences with passes and feed Lukaku something to run onto. Still feel he comes short too often.

This is what worries me. Apart from Distin and Alcaraz who are out of contract I can see everyone else staying even though they're well past it. Likes of McGeady will still be here as he thinks they're 'magicians' or whatever adjective springs to his mind. He needs to get rid of these and rebuild our squad. Too many deadwood here. Losing confidence in him though, I really am.

Lukaku has definitely improved with his back to goal. Showing some nice touches and holding the ball up very well.
