I'll be a member for 10 years on December 22.  Funnily enough, my "mental image" of all the ones that have been here for all that time hasn't changed at all.

I wonder what happened to Ian (IanC?), the Irish guy; he made a lot of good posts.

    I'd tried to blank him.

Made/making a great success of his life; in San Francisco now, shame he's not still active.

  2. Got a new phone today as my contract was up; still operating at the budget end of the market (because it's all I need) but they didn't have the one I wanted in stock so I ended up getting a 4G one. Can anyone tell me what advantages this gives? Couldn't be arsed hanging around listening to the smug salesman, who I think was looking down on me due to the fact I was spending so little .

4G has much faster internet connectivity - max ~8MB/s download. Whereas 3G maxes out at about 1MB/s

  3. Played a pretty decent level, mainly as a fullback. Moved in goals for my last year (at about 14) as my coach thought I'd have a bit of talent in it. He must've been right because I was poached off to play basketball by the local club at a pretty high level. Packed in the football then.

  4. When clubs fire managers, they often go for a completely different profile afterwards. So after Moyes, I think they'll go for a proven winner so I hope we shouldn't worry about them chasing Martinez.

I think they'll do well if they go for Louis van Gaal. Has worked for some of the biggest clubs in world football in Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern. Won league titles in Holland (with Ajax, but also with the much smaller club AZ), Spain and Germany. Has won every existing European trophy. Brilliant tactician and always plays lots of youngsters. He will probably be fighting with about everyone at the club in a three years time, but I've no doubt he'll have laid the groundwork for a successful team and won some honour by then.

Even Moyes won the Charity Shield

  5. Not even it's as simple as "he doesn't try". I don't think you can watch him play and think that he's not putting enough effort in.

I think world class players need to be surrounded by great players and a great manager, and given the space and responsibility to thrive. Rooney has none of that at United.

I think if he were at a Bayern, Madrid or a Barca we'd feel very differently.

It's funny, Rooney always struck me as someone motivated purely by football (by achievement, not necessarily loyalty), not money. I think his upbringing, or maybe the people around him, have led him to compromise his football for money - and I don't think he's happy with that.
