  1. The flag, tyrannical statues, et all symbolize oppression. Perhaps these objects or examples of them can be, I don't know, present in the confines of museums or accurate text books? The Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham is a place that I've been to that at least tries to get things right with its content and programming. There you will find KKK hoods/uniforms, a bombed-out bus, the shattered remains of the stained glass window from the church in that city. They do a wonderful job. Visit a museum, or pick up some enriching literature on these subjects; if you need somewhere to start I have a running list. The 'erasing history' stance is a tired one. The Germans were able to do it in less time with monuments that bring to light the horrors of the Holocaust. They know the details, without seeing Hitler on statues and without swastikas all over the place (despite any graffiti that pops up, I assume.) It is literally the same thing, there is no difference. The rebel flag is to slavery as the swastika is to the holocaust, they can't be disassociated. It should offend everyone and POC shouldn't be left to cry foul to an audience that continually ignores them. It's everyone's burden, it hurts us all. There is a 9/11 Memorial; it's been open for years but this country isn't nearly as comfortable dealing with the evils of slavery. So much so that places like this happen to be vanguards in the preservation and historical sector: https://www.theatlantic.com/notes/2016/01/is-the-whitney-plantation-really-americas-first-slavery-museum/431448/ I've been; it's harrowing and more people should make the trip if they're ever down in the New Orleans area. It's about an hour NW I believe. These monuments, or 'history' as some people call it were mostly erected in the very late 19th century so the treasonous act of doing so would fly under the radar, or even more recently as an affront to the efforts of the Civil Rights Movement in the 60's. They're not timeless Grecian statues that have been a part of city skylines forever, they're methods of intimidation and hateful pride made physical. They're like building a statue of Joseph Goebbels just after the Nazi defeat and fighting tooth and nail for them to stay up to this day, except the Confederacy lost which makes even less sense; unless your main goal is to keep the ideas and morals of your populace brooding for years to come, even in the face of defeat. It worked, here we are and now because the statues are things that inspire some people and confuse others into a state of dismissal they did their job as a form of time released hate. Some are charged up, some don't 'see the big deal', and some of us are just as scared as ever. You wouldn't ask people people to just 'deal with' and 'learn from' a statue of a Nazi chief officer. Surely there are other ways to grow?
  2. Just watched the highlights, the goal was excellent and we actually played some nice football in the second half. Everyone one who participated in the goal, from Keane to Rooney was great today and we'll really start to impress as the rapport develops between players. I'm glad Koeman acknowledged the mistake he made with the formation.
  3. He was shocking and you could see his confidence was lacking; saw him hanging his head a lot. At least he's aware. He doesn't have the ball playing ability of some of the other players and I think he knows it.
  4. First half had me worried, no thanks to that asymmetrical formation, but I saw enough evidence in the second half that things will come together. Gave Pickford MOTM, his composure is refreshing.
  5. https://royalbluemersey.sbnation.com/2017/8/11/16129548/everton-third-kit-leak-reveal-umbro-sportpesa-adidas-nike-merchandise-kitbag-fanatics Buying this in a long sleeve version if it's real.
  6. Quite like this idea. It's been said before and with the recent additions it'd actually be a very productive shift in positioning. Could play well with Sandro, for example.
  7. Instagram is a great tool for small businesses or if you're involved in visual arts. But yeah I agree, like all social media it is often abused.
  8. The players that ended the match played with more fluidity. Add in Sandro and we'd look great. Schneiderlin looks off the pace and there was no ball retention in the first half. Davies looked a bit lost too. Unfortunately Rooney and his sporadic form can't be accommodated if there's no rhythm in the team. I was encouraged by the last half hour-20 mins; Lookman and Gueye played well when they came on. We have a lot of new players so I'm not going to panic yet.
  9. That's my view. These comments are always in response to a question. Koeman doesn't, to my knowledge, bring up Barkley but when he's asked questions he answers them earnestly.
  10. http://www.espnfc.com/english-premier-league/23/video/3165490/ross-barkley-is-running-out-of-options This says it better than I could.
  11. He did say in his initial interview that learning English was something he always wanted to do. He seems enthusiastic about everything right now. Really positive.
  12. Is the existence of a new contract still in question? I thought that was definite. I feel like most of Koeman's comments about Ross were in response to very simple questions. People have said a lot about his treatment but I just interoperate the commentary as basic criticism. Koeman had been asked about Barkley and Lukaku from the very beginning of his tenure. It's gotta be annoying. He just answers questions as they come to him and not only does he see what we do on match day, but he's there for training. Ross probably holds on to the ball for longer than he should in training too. That's just how he is. I've never been able to witness the negativity thrown at him during matches but I have read level headed assessment of his ability on here and other platforms. I just think Ross is afraid of the work and the challenge of competition for his place. It's hard to suspect anything else when a player declares they'd like to leave without an actual deal in place to do so. The contract is there, with more money and greater responsibility; he just doesn't want to continue at Everton.
  13. He's my choice at striker. I think he's super talented and wouldn't cost much.
  14. He had one of our only shots on target directly after taking on a few defenders.
  15. I think so too. He's growing in to the match and I think he should stay on after the half. Much more productive than Mirallas.
  16. Sharpe is proper embarrassing the way he can't remember or recite players names during the match. Calling Sandro 'Pedro' for way too long in the first half. I just heard a 'Martinez' for Cuco...
  17. Yeah I've been thinking the same. It looks solid actually.
  18. Great result. We still look like a controlled outfit, which is what I like about Koeman's managerial presence. I see us scoring goals from all over too. That performance would have been different with a static Lukaku. Even the work that DCL did in the first half incorporated more of the team.
  19. On second thought, they should have been on the end of a couple of his.
  20. Same, Connolly's crossing is what I've been frustrated with.
