dlblue reacted to Paddock in Ronald Koeman
Exactly. Both my kids stopped wanting to go. Can you imagine being 8 and 7 (at the time) being football mad but not wanting to go the match?
That's what Martinez brought. Dross, shit crab stryle pass back football. 80% possession and 1 shot on target.

I've said for a long time, possession based football leads to bad atmospheres. There's no highs and lows to get the crowd up, no aggression on the pitch to get it in the stands. It's just boring.

It all starts with Phil Jagielka - love the fella but he doesn't make himself known enough. Phil Neville irritated me no end with his "damn good pro" act.... at United he was in referees faces.

This is a big thing for me.
They seem like good pro's. But there is no 'bite' there. It's become evident in a number of games, and one of the reasons I feel Koeman can't quite get what he wants for 90 minutes.
Mentally, too many of these players are either too weak or a bit scarred from the previous regime.
We need a couple more players with the attitude of a Besic/McCarthy...they go toe to toe, they don't back down, they enjoy a bit of horn locking, macho chest to chest type shit. We don't need a full team of it (oh shit no!)...but having it in the spine of the team would change it so much and energise the rest of them plus the fans. These sort of players don't allow heads to drop, they rally the team when backs are against the wall, or when the team is under pressure.
I think that's what Koeman is looking for as part of his jigsaw.

Martinez was terrible. he gave us so much hope in the first season then destroyed it with 2 years of horrendous football. He made us into a joke and made Southampton fans and Pundits think it was a step down for Koeman coming to Everton.
Martinez would have happily spouted the same old sh*te week in week out until we got relegated. I genuinly cant stand the man, he had a nice guy approach but underneath i think there was more of a horrid side to him. TBF though the board should have sacked him earlier to save him from the abuse and also he should have never got the job in the first place. He was massively under qualified.
Koeman has a massive job on his hands after Martinez. its a shame that Moshiri and Koeman didnt come in as Moyes left, that team would have suited Koeman more i feel and we probably could have pushed on quicker with less needing to be changed. But at least Koeman has a few years of experience in the prem under his belt now.

Excellent post Dean and sums my feelings up also.
And your shout that the board should have got shut earlier is spot on. In all seriousness, as much as I hate what he done to us, I didn't enjoy any of the hate channeled towards him from our fan base but I also understood why it was there. It was just a horriible situation all round for everyone.
I don't think he done anything on purpose, of course he didn't to suggest otherwise is just ridiculous but the way he single handedly destroyed us and refused to accept what he was doing wasn't working and the positive bullshit he tried to spin on it constantly still stick in my throat and probably always will.
I also agree that his Mr nice guy persona is in some part a mask and he does have a smarmy I know better attitude underneath.

From everything I've read on here over the last few months, this simple snippet is the most hard hitting and summarises the whole situation perfectly.

Why cant we play two wingers and Barkley? Like we have done for about four years now.
Most of the season so far we have played Gana and Barry in midfield, Barkley in front and two wingers. Schneiderlin can just replace Barry. Job done.

Its a tough call, I think Ross, for me he is a more instinctive player, better at going past people and harder to knock off the ball, but I can see the case for Wilshere.

plus ross isn't a whining bitch who tries to get fouls every 5 seconds. I honestly think wilshere is my least favorite player in the league, means well probably get him now.

I would love this, class player and would be perfect in that 10 role.

He should go. Create a legacy, he might even get some support by people who will look to him as a god. He'll make a fucktonne of money and probably be head and shoulders above (literally) the rest.
I love you Ross. Ignore the haters man.

Everyone knew it was a project, everyone could see we needed re-building fromtop to bottom. Everyone also knew that if Martinezstayed he would relegate us.
To expect instant transformation is unreasonable in my opinion, he has to be given time. I don't get this "he or his players don't know what they'redoing" shout. His players at Southampton clearly did and he had them playing very well.

Bit harsh, we've paid some saint £11.25million for the dogs dinner of a job he did to be discontinued, which puts Koeman's £6mill (a year) to leave his happy side (that had euro games to play) and undo aforementioned dogs dinner into context.

Because he lost 7 out of 14 games. For a club like Milan that isnt good enough. He was poor in Holland too. He's another Martinez.

There isnt another Manager who we realistically could have brought in that would have done a better job! DeBoer was another Martinez, he was garbage in the Dutch League then failed in Italy. The likes of Eddie Howe and Sean Dyche may be great managers at their level but they could never attract the players we need to move forward! and with managers like that we would forever be 'little old Everton'.
Mourinho is only in 6th Place with UTD and look who they brought in.
Some people may not like Koeman because he isnt 'Everton' who cares! we havent won anything for over 2 decades! Moyes did a great job at turning us from a relegation battling side to a top 8 team, then Martinez was on his way to destryoying all that hard work. He turned a hard working team with a 'never quit' attitude into a bunch of tarts that were fine with losing providing we had good possesion.
If we want this Club to move forward then Koeman is the man to do it, this isnt a refurb its a Rebuild and we need a manager that can attract players and wont stand for any BS. It was great to hear him criticising the board over transfers instead of a manager saying how great Bill Kenwright is and how we have a small budget compared to other teams!
You cant judge a manager this early unless he is failing miserably, Koeman isnt, we are 7th with a poor and ageing team.

Sacking a manager who was backed with a lot of money on new signings, lost half of his games with these new players who by all means are quality (Gabirel Barbosa, Joao Mario & Candreva cost in excess of £70m) so yeah he did fail to think otherwise you are a fool

It also speaks volumes about us when the manager publicly declares frustration at the way we negotiate transfers.
It's been a shambles for years now and he has just confirmed what most already knew.

If he was such a bad egg Mourinho wouldn't have him anywhere near the squad he'd be out training on his own
He could be a cockhead I guess we won't know unless he does come here but I do think the lad is very talented and given the right chance and management he could become a top draw player

His missus makes him wear jackets with her face on the back of it, nothing to do with his footballing abilities mind, just thought I'd point out this useless information.
