  1. Avin's right here.... every fan is responsible for their own actions. It's not LFC, it's a moron fan. As for the 'You Manc Bastard' possibility.... it's possible I suppose, but it's a bit too close to 'you black bastard' (a common alliterative racist quip), he's not a Manc, and Oldham's not really Manchester (but like calling Sandbaggers scousers) Sandbaggers are from Southport for those that don't know. FInd them, name them, ban them.... and why not prosecute them too. and IF someone shouted it... those around them will know who it was. Grass them up I say.
  2. Spurs 'only' won 3-0 against Cheltenham, and many would say Spurs are possibly the best team in the country (and certainly top 3). Admittedly it's not non-league, but adds SOME perspective to such games. 2-0 is 'job done'. Ugly maybe, lacking flair maybe, but it's a win.
  3. Decent attendance that given it's 3rd round
  4. Never easy to judge the state of a team in a cup game like this. Cup games are one offs. As DK said... a win's a win.
  5. Like I said, might be too big a leap. The last lad (Beckford) that did that lasted a year, and managed a credible 1 in 4 goal ratio (credible for his first year after a big step up). There's a big difference between the appeal Everton hold (high) and a more pragmatic and sensible approach to career development (Championship)
  6. Poor choice of word 'betrayal'. He'd had been better advised to just have said "we all want the same thing for this great club, let's just do it with some dignity". It's such a shame that the most vocal of fans (and often the media focus) is the yobbo/moron element of the fans (all clubs have them). Clubs looks so much better when they have moderate fans acting sensibly and putting forward coherent arguments. Edit - The fans in the video aren't too bad (compared with many), but shouting for answers through a gate is understandable, but not the real way forwards. 'Who's next... rodwell?" - BK's not going to answer provocative questions like that.
  7. It's not an opinion. It's a logical conclusion in response to someone else's assertion. MY view is that Moyes is a great manager and that Everton's troubles lie firmly at the feet of the board. I would keep Moyes, and find him 20 million, which I believe he'd use well and get Everton in the top 6-8.
  8. His dad was part of the Oldham team in the late 80's when they where a pretty decent team and much loved by most fans (I'd say). Quite a step up to West Ham from Huddersfield, let alone to Everton, and at this moment in time, you MIGHT (at a push) say West Ham would be a more sensible move. (That's not designed to wind folks up). It's just a view that his career might be best served in a smaller steps than a big leap to Everton... PLUS, Everton's future is a bit clouded at the moment (not that West Ham's is crystal clear, but it's a tad clearer!)
  9. ha... I'm convinced we'll lose. United lose 3 on the trot? It's sod's law. probably end up City 1 : 7 United such is their 'jamminess' At least you're at home... playing those lower league teams is a nightmare. They have nothing to lose, and can smell fear. 9 times out of 10 they get over excited and lose in the last 30 minutes, but 1 in 10.... just waiting to happen. You should be ok though. I hope Everton fans turn out in numbers and make it a great atmosphere... but 3rd round of the cup isn't too inspiring for a lot of fans.
  10. Now..... far be it from be to be a harbinger of doom.... but.... Since Liverpool just won against Oldham, that means this round's 'giant killers' are still in the pot.... ;-)
  11. I'm an Oldhamer born and bred! Those were heady days for the town back then. They really did lift the entire town. The place is a wreck now.... partly because the club refused to share a new stadium with the Rugby League team. Latics didn't need them back then. 10 years old from those days, the clubs in a real mess. I suspect we might be saying the same of bigger teams in another 10 years... if ONLY they'd shared grounds, or not been so bloody obstinate...
  12. Then that must ultimately come to a conclusion: Change his way, or go.
  13. These people are running the country (or in opposition). If you're a dustbin man and miss a bin, it's not so bad. If you're a surgeon and make mistakes, you can't operate any more. When a politician of some prominence, who has utilised race as her raison d'étre posts willy nilly - she's not a good judge. We need good judges in government and opposition. NOT publicists. She's using twitter for publicity, she's misused it, and must live with that. Resignation is the honourable thing. It's not like prison, or she's going to lose her living per se. It's about having the right person in the right job. When Gordon Brown made his secret microphone gaffe... he had no real way of knowing he was still hooked up - an unfortunate mistake. When Diane Abbot consciously tweets, it's not a mistake, it's significant error of judgment.
  14. I think Baines is your best asset (but leftbacks aren't really at the center of things), but clearly both are considered the very lifeblood of the team at the moment.... and some would say... you can't put a price on that (as an Everton fan). What I'm struggling to understand between the Everton fans is: Many of you believe he's a great manager, and yet you think he's not playing players in their best position, or to their strengths. IF he's a great manager (and knows more about the game than we do) then it's hard to understand how could be be so wrong. And if he IS so wrong, then should he be managing Everton at all?
  15. Spot on. Either he's run out of ideas (unlikely given his good track record) or the tools he has to hand aren't good enough (the more likely). Fans can say all they like about how good some players are, but the proof is in the pudding. Come the end of the season, the table will reveal the truth. I feel for the man. I'm 100% convinced if they gave him 20 million he'd work miracles. It's tragic for a club of Everton's stature not to be able to spend 20million after 5 years of frugal spending.
  16. Grossly negligent on her part to use twitter, knowing her prominence, knowing the possible misinterpretations. Even if context is lost, she's ought to be aware of the possible interpretations. This isn't a mouthy footballer tweeting his breakfast cereal, it's a prominent black politician making accusations of some 'whites'. She shouldn't be fired. Her resignation would be the honourable (and unlikely) thing to offer.
  17. It's the same old ground.... For at least the last 5 years, Moyes has spent very little, and what talent he's managed to garner has ultimately been moved on for financial reasons. Another wave of 'better' players has gone and so the current best look vulnerable to bids now!. Moyes has been swimming against the tide for years and done BRILLIANTLY well, but sooner or later, the tide will defeat you. The problem is exacerbated by other teams progressing significantly and the investment 'window of opportunity' seemingly having been and gone (but there remains a modicum of hope). Moyes job now isn't to aim for the heady heights, it's keep Everton afloat, and that means keeping them in the Prem. Whilst there's no immediate threat to that, it HAS to be the number one priority. I think Moyes is a cracking manager. I think players could be lacking motivation in a club that offers them little to be motivated about (other than the pride of the shirt itself), and I think Moyes can no longer dangle ANY hope for those players to get them motivated - because the players have lost belief in any hope under the current regime. The club needs oxygen, it needs to breath again, it needs release from the well intentioned adoration but smothering caress of BK. It's a marriage where love remains, but passion no longer exists. Set her free BK, and let her love again. Set her free sir.
  18. Racism lurks in every corner, openly and in the most secretive manner. It even lurks in each of us, to some extent. How we choose to counter it is the measure of us, not how we choose to deny it. I know many will object to the suggestion that there's a racist in us all, but it's there.... just like there's a killer in us all.
  19. The problem with the law, and FIFA regulations is that they deliberately avoid being highly specific. If a law says "the words negro, blackie, pig" are banned, then there is an implication that all other words ARE allowed. If a law says "words likely to be considered offensive" then it covers more options and is more flexible, but then lays the door open for interpretation. If you're in an airport, duty free side, you're subject to UK law (assuming UK airport!). Even a foreign embassy is subject to the laws of the country in which it is located (contrary to popular myth and confusion with the Vienna Convention (which affords a level of diplomatic immunity for some embassy workers in some situations, and a level of agreement that the hosting nation won't enter the premises).
  20. Quite interesting point that AV, and one to which I partly subscribe.... however. It's legal bollox. In fact, football is legal bollox and a LOT of the game would fail legal scrutiny if anybody actually bothered to challenge it. Football is not above the law of any land. It may impose additional restrictions, but not reduce them. I've travelled the world as part of my job (admittedly not as much as a top international footballer would), but I'm subject to the laws of each land. Not knowing them is 'no excuse'. Of course, MOST nations will probably overlook a minor transgression and subject you to a warning since the paperwork is a pain and you're a tourist, but generally, you're subject to the law like the rest of the natives. This is why FIFA CAN say to other countries "it may be legal in your country to say 'negro', but it's against our rules". They can't say "it's illegal in the UK to use that word in a provocative manner, but allowed on the pitch". I do like the notion of the pitch being a 'universal land' where all rules are the same. But it's not.
  21. oh, one thing I have noticed.... but having never experienced CL before can't compare.... on CL nights, me and my lad have been surrounded by away fans or bloody tourists from Asia (seriously). All three CL home games were the same. Found it quite disturbing and it spoiled it for me.
