The Refereeing Thread

Recommended Posts

I have to say I like him though, he's one of the very few referee's in the game today that I can say I like. Whenever he has been at Goodison he's had a game (for as long as I can remember off the top of my head) and he did well in the World Cup considering how hostile it was.

And about technology it gets right on my tits. Not to bore you but I watch Rugby League every other week live (I have a season ticket at Wigan Warriors) and the video-ref does not slow the game down one bit, whilst the players are setting up for the conversion the ref is consulted meaning that there is no actual pause in play. It could easily work in football, as the ref is being looked at the teams set up for a Kick Off and if it is a goal then the game resumes and if it isn't then we have a free-kick/drop ball/coin toss/wild scrap for it.

sorry but if you don't know who you've booked then you don't belong refereeing

Dont they write on the back of the yellow card who they have booked? I was under the impression that when someone is booked a 'tick' goes by their name in the book or their name is written on the back of the card. I've never understood how referee's can forget that they have booked someone, it's an absolute disgrace.

Remember when Poll did it in the World Cup? Laughed my tits off.

Clattenburg, you Grade A ass cunt dry.png

Feel a little sympathy for Rovers, not a bad club with some decent supporters and into the second division again for the first since, I can't remember actually, may well have been 1991-92, when they last got a promotion, and ten years since the clubs last actual domestic trophy.

There was an incident this night at the stadium when a chicken invaded the pitch and was 'wearing a Blackburn top' by all accounts, play was stopped as players made an effort to catch the beast, leading to one reporter at the game saying - Surely that was a fowl in the penalty area ' dry.png

Sorry to the supporters tonight for more match official incompetence from dizzy fucking referees and the relegation on the night.

I'm glad that Blackburn Rovers have gone down.

For all it's been horrible what's happened to them with the Venky's and that how they've treated Kean like complete shit all season means there is no wonder where they are today. I'm a firm believer that a manager needs support if he is to do well at his job and from the world go Rovers fans (and the board in some aspects) have been against him. He's had an up-hill struggle and I find it really upsetting to hear what has happened to him today, I wish him all the best for the future wherever that may be and I hope Rovers continue to slip down the leagues being the horrible little cunts that they are.

I wonder where all the calls are for Yakubu back too? I thought that it was a terrible decision for Moyes to let him go? Give me a fucking break. Like I said in January the guy is not the world class striker people on here have been making him out to be, he's very mediocre and was only banging them in because he was at a new club and had a fresh start (like Louis).

He'll do fuck all next season and will do fuck all until he finds another club to play for.

Few interesting ideas, makes a change from the old suggestions like the players should wear shorter shorts.

Pen for denying a goalscoring opportunity sounds good, but in practice it will be used to give the likes of Man u a let off at the end of a game. Like the current offside rule I'm against any thing that is completely up to the referees interpretation.

Imo they should just have clear cut rules, with heavy fines to inconsistent referees.

It took me years to understand the Offside rule, think I eventually got the idea of it though. I read the link and I think it's acceptable and not too bad as it stands, goal.line technology debate will always rage on, but if that's introduced you maybe take away some of the fun and arguement out of the game, in two minds over whether they should ever go ahead with that. Sin Bins are a no no for me, this isn't goddamn Ice hockey, just leave it as it is, the way it's been for as long as anyone can remember. I hope that idea never sees the light of day for British football. I think most match officials do a good job and are fair and honest, in difficult surroundings sometimes, they are professionals and worked extensively to get to what they do, even though a select few get my damn back up now and again. I hate diving players, they should know better than that and it's up to the officials to spot these things and hand out cautions and all when the need arises. I sometimes turn a blind eye to these things when a team I particularly dislike is on the end of such a thing though, but still something we can do without.

Kean is a bit of a cunt apparently. This might be speculation, but apparently he went behind one of his coaches (or something) back to pin all the blame on him. He said it all to the owners.

I read it elsewhere on a few places, but I can't remember the specifics. I agree they should have gave him a bit of a chance, but I get the feeling he's a weasel.

Oh, and Man United would be nowhere near the top of the league without the constant decisions which go their way. Justice that City won it. They've had their decisions for and against, but they've been nowhere near as favoured as the establishment club.

I had to look back in the archives for this one. Point being I was at Ospreys v Leicester Tigers on Sunday and struck me that there was only two decisions the ref had to pass on to the video ref all game. Both were for try scoring chances. Both were done within 30 seconds, so why can't the premier league allow this in the penalty area only? I think there are only 4 contentious decisions that happen in the penalty area (average) per game so that means only two min need added to the overall time keeping. Do we keep it to penalty appeals and "ball over the line" appeal? Or do we do it for infringement at corner/set pieces?

Jon Moss. Worst ref this season, consistently incompetent, and now kopite to add to the list of reasons why he shouldn't be a ref. Mentally not strong enough, physically not strong enough. If Gerrard weren't in his ear or Suarez waving his arms he wouldn't of known what to do. If he wasn't a ref he'd be the little spotty convenient deaf bell end who gets kefuffled by a request for a burger to be 'plain, but with cheese'. Why hasn't he been sacked yet?

Another load of bollocks from the officials, Howard being totally impeded by about 6 Oldham players yet nothing is given and we now finish at 2-2. What a load of old shite, the officals need to get some balls and quickly because this has cost us dearly.

We'll still win at Goodison... won't we?

We've been saying for months now or at least, as long as anyone can remember, that match officials need to give their fucking heads a shake, but still there's no significant change in performance. I saw the game yesterday and it's true that some of the opposition players tactics and behavior was questionable and the referee did himself no favors but there's nothing that can be done about it now, or the whole general ineptitude of match officials that has been so prevalent this season. I hope we can give something back with their (Oldham players) bully boy tactics in the return game at GP.

Don't be so sure we'll even win either. We will start as favorites, but wasn't that the case yesterday ? Anything can - and will - occur

Someone is playing around with the referee's Wikipedia page; rofl.gif

On March 8, 2013, he made and absolute abysmal decision of sending off Nani in the round of 16 match of Manchester United vs Real Madrid. It is quite ironic because Cüneyt Çakır literally spells "cunt".

They have never won with Cakir in charge either, losing their previous meetings against Bilbao (Europa League) and Benfica (Champions League).
