Phil Mcnulty On Evertons "move"

Bloody hell - fozzie we agree on something.

I think a stadium share makes huge finacial sence in this day and age. Half the build cost, so half the mortgage and half the running cost.

As Fozzie said, people need a reality check - We are not going to be staying at Goodison, we are lagging behind in the modern stadium stakes.

In a perfect world and money was no object, I would like to see Everton have there own Stadium, but becasue of the finaces of football these days, any edge you can get is a huge help - If we saved £5-10M a year by sharing a stadium (becasue of halved running costs and half a mortgage) Thats one very decent players a season.

Also means one state of the art stadium in the City - so if in the summer you have huge concerts etc. we will see some income from them. Rather than being in competition with another new stadium.

There is an argument that having the pitch used every week will make a mess of the pitch. That can be easily accomadeated these days.

I live in Swansea and Swansea City share the stadium with the Swans Rugby team. So it gets played on every week, and rugby (with scrums and mauls etc) wears the pitch a lot more than football. The pitch is always in good condition.

Liverpool/Everton have as good as rivalry as any two club city. But in the main I would say its a very healthy rivalry and not a mailisouse one. If any set of fans could share in the UK then it is Liverpool and Everton. That is maybe something the people of the city of Liverpool should feel proud of.

LOL

Its always nice to agree on something with you Rob :)

I'm going to have to agree with Licker...its not physically possible to keep up a Premiership standard of pitch for two Premiership teams.

Plus, I don't see how it would work with season ticket holders during a derby game? I am sure there is an answer, but it could get messy (considering how Everton deal with ticket sales at the best of times!)

IMPOSSIBLE..... We dont even have the Reserve team playing at Goodison, cos it fucked up the pitch.

This last couple of weeks we have been playing Sun, Weds and Sat. imagine Reds playing Sat Tues Sun.

Six games a week, :D:D Couldnt be done.

We don't play all our games at home!!! We play half away - so so 3 instead of 6 games a week tops.

Modern Stadiums can easily accomadate two teams playing on them. As it can all be considered and accomadated in the design stage. I work in the Civil engineering industry and know a little about modern Stadium design.

The Millenium stadium in Cardiff - the playing feild doesn't actually stay in the stadium - it is on special pallets and is taken in and out for games. You could easily have at least two pitchs that are changed if one starts to look tired - i.e you have a spare back up pitch. - you can easily changed the pitch every month or so if it is needed.

If we had that sort of arrangment then the stadium can be used for all sorts of things during the summer - the Millenium stadium is used for concerts, boxing, motocross, cricket etc during the close season. All extra revenue for the stadium and more events for Liverpool.

If we are talking of all of a sudden sharing Goodison or Anfeild for both teams I would agree that the pitch could turn to mud bath. But not for a modern stadium that takes this in to account.

MILLENIUM STADIUM PITCH

UK turf specialists Inturf, installed the £1 million GreenTech ITM Turf System for contractor Laing.

It was designed to be easy and cheap to repair. The surface is made up of 7,4001.2m² pitch modules set in 150mm deep trays, which can be removed separately to allow local repairs to be made.

The system was also chosen to enable the pitch to be removed while other events such as concerts or exhibitions were held on the asphalt surface beneath.

Welcome to the 21st Century!!!!!

If a highly paid groundsman cant keep a pitch together for what 40 weeks of the year then sack him and find one who can..it can be done

If you plant it they will come

See where your coming from Rob, but there are occasions when we have two home games on the trot and we might also have a cup replay to play in midweek and so might the Other team, as well as thier euro games, So I'm still not Convinced it would stand up to the Modern ratio of Games played.

However, the millenium experience looks very convincing, but that would put it out of our price bracket, you know we can only do our shopping in the Bargain stores. ;)

over the festive period we'll play about 5 home games in a couple of weeks, so would the RS, thenthere is bad weather, not much sunlight, no photosynthesis can occur so the grass has muchos chance of death with the abuse it would take.

and again, Millenium looked good, but when backed by a world cup campaign and a national government, there is significantly more money in the pot

5 home games in two weeks, is a very much exaggerated figure (50-50 home away average) means we play 10 games over the festive period. Get real.

I would say we have done well on the home games over Xmas this year, but we still only have 3 home games between 26th Dec and 6th Jan (and that's only becasue we managed a home draw in the FA Cup).

The millenium stadium is one option - or maybe another option would be similar to the Stade de France - the pitch has been designed to take up to 16 hour playing time per week equating to about 10 games of football. Look it up if you don't beleive me, I am not exaggerating. Everton and Liverpool would do well to get half that amount of home games in any single week.

'bad weather, not much sunlight, no photosynthesis can occur so the grass has muchos chance of death with the abuse it would take' a modern designed pitch will stand up a lot better to what we and most other teams currently have - ever with twice as many games being played.

So infact if we went down the route of a shared stadium that takes into account two team using it - we would actually end up with a better and more robust playing surface than we already have.

The argument for to much football is basically a none argument - so lets please put that argument to bed as a reason for not sharing a pitch. A little research on modern pitches and you will see what I mean.

there is no harm in Everton looking into this, or us talking about it. im hopefull we pull this off, knowsley or liverpool doesnt matter to me as long as its best for the club (and at the moment there is only one side trying to help).

and if a ground share is brought into the equation, i for one will vote against it.

only one person said they were handing the city to them.

if they were to move on this then they would have to poll the fans, not just shareholders. if the plans are good enough then minds may change.

im sure the majority on here would move to knowsley if it was best for the club

Seems to be a lot more Anti move stuff about in the press than I have actually seen about message boards etc via many suporters.

Like Stevo says most it seems would be haopy to move to knowsley if we got whats being proposed etc. ( its not the move getting most derision its the "here we go again" jist).

However, the media seem to have negative bug in regards to & that then makes me wonder if darker forces are @ play spinning the media.

There are some whose intersets are not for Everton Fc to move the whole 4 miles to knowsley.

If ya no what I mean.

We all know Goodison is a shed,we've been saying it on here for ages but and i'll bang on about this point we dont have the money to build a new one its a simple fact.

Yes the council are being helpful, tescos ok they're inputting something in but other than that we'd have to fork out the rest of the building costs.

Now as everyone seems to have built the stadium named it and lost thier virginity in it where is this cash for this coming from?

TV money?..well that for me should be spent on the team,at this rate we'll be putting the under 14s out for a game if the injurys continue to pile up.

So where else is it coming from??..BK and the new bloke on the board..cant see it myself lest we forget we had BK's "mate" in greig on the board at the time of kings dock and we where having money thrown at us from all sides and still we couldnt come up with the cash to put the deal in the bag..spiralling building costs where qouted as a reason for that and i may be wrong but i would think that building costs have risen since then (look at wembley).

The only way forward as far as i can see is a groundshare a 70,000 super stadium that can make the city proud of course theres resistance to it but even with the RS new found oil money it makes fiancial sense,Liverpool as a city cant support the building of 2 new stadiums its a criminal waste of money IMO i would sooner see this come off becuase if all partys could agree to it its a project that could succed.

As it is the RS will move into thier very own stadium and we'll be stuck at Goodison moaning about the ground becuase this wont come off,the sums arent adding up at all we made a loss last year so who in thier right minds would lend us more money? and by god we'd need at least a 100 mill to build something near whats burning in BKs minds eye.

Good post fozz .

I've said ever since the Kings Dock fiasco that a ground share would be our best option and fook all of this '' oh i wouldn't want to share with the RS cos they've been sitiing in my seat '' or '' we'll lose our sense of identity if we share a stadium '' bollox .

As you and robb have quite rightly pointed out the whole thing makes perfect financial sense for both clubs and as a whole for the city of Liverpool .

If i'am right in thinking , some of the money we'd be saving whilst sharing the resposibility with the RS could be used for relaying the pitch more often to dispell any worries about the pitch getting ploughed up .

From a business point of view keeping the stadium running on a weekly basis rather than it being left empty for a week at a time when a team is playing away makes alot more financial sense .

The whole infrastrucure in and around the stadium would benefit from it being used on a more regular basis than just every other week also .

If this Dubai billionarre is the astute business man the papers lead us to believe and you have to take into context that its a corporation looking at buying the RS , not one man throwing his own millions at a club like Roman at Chelski , then he's in it to make money and not shearly there for the exposure .

And as we've pointed out this will make alot more money for both clubs than owning seperate grounds .

The only problem that i can still see is our money men actually being able to come up with enough cash to share the responsibility of a joint ground and its building in the first place .

We aint got a pot to pi55 in and i cant see the RS shelling out for our half of the ground aswell .

True there Willo,im damn sure when sheik your money does his sums it'lll shock him how much a stadium will cost building costs are rising at a fast rate at the moment.

There is far too much of this sentimental shit going about how we wouldnt want to share well fuck it,the sheer cost of the projects is going to be hidious and frankly its about time boths clubs and supperters got off thier high horses about it and wake up and smell the roses.

I for one would sooner see investment that could be saved going into the team than on a stadium thats used for a few months of the year.

But of course this is dependant on BK coming up with the moolah whch frankly i cant see happening.
