  1. Just thought I'd have a look back to a year ago to get a bit of perspective....interesting reading... All ended (reasonably) happy ever after.....maybe Liege will be the turning point. Live in hope.
  2. When we went to Alkmaar last year they'd never lost a European game at home (played 31), but we beat them (result which coincidentally put them out and allowed Zenit into the last 32). Difference being that back then we were on a run of ten wins and two draws in the previous twelve games . I think it'll be a draw personally, I just hope it's a high enough scoring one.
  3. Am I missing something ? What sort of music should you listen to when you have a cold? Is this some branch of alternative therapy that I've not heard about?
  4. Apparently they have seven potential buyers....makes you wonder doesn't it . Newcastle owner Mike Ashley's chances of securing a quick sale of the club have risen dramatically after it emerged that he had received approaches from seven possible bidders, none of them British. Although much of the attention has so far been focused on a group of Nigerian businessmen, advisers Seymour Pierce have been encouraged by the response they have had since being appointed to sell the club by the Sports Direct tycoon. Seymour Pierce are expected to spend the rest of this week assessing the bidders before recommending one offer to Ashley, who is seeking around £350 million for the club.
  5. So if everyone thinks he's brilliant and he's had an England call-up how (and by who) is he under-rated ? I've been banging on about Ossie for a couple of years when no-one seemed to rate him but people seem to be coming round now (Saturday excluded ). Obviously with hindsight Lee Carsley would have fitted the bill for the last couple of years. Find it hard to come up with one for this season so far, pretty much all of them come under "over-rated." Jags is just one of the few who's performing to expectation.
  6. Innocent til proven otherwise but doesn't look good .

  8. "I am going to be working mainly with Taff (Andy Holden, reserve team manager) with the reserves. I might be doing bits watching the under 18s and under 16s as well. "It's a perfect move. It's a great opportunity to get my foot on the bottom of the ladder. I am at the bottom working my way up." Having taken up his role this week, Stubbs explained that he has been warmly welcomed back into the fold at Finch Farm. "I am really looking forward to it," he continued, "It's going to be a different challenge for me. "The lads have had the usual banter; Ossie said he didn't realise we had a new kitman! But it's all quietened down now and it's great to be back amongst them."
  9. Played something we called "Kick the Can" and it involved (surprisingly) kicking a can but it bore no relation to football other than the act of kicking so it may have been something different Jim. And I got sent off once when I was a lad but the ref rescinded it a few years later and admitted he'd treated me more harshly than he would anyone else....he was my dad .
  10. In which case he needs to take it back. If he'd given two yellows....for the foul and then dissent there'd be no argument, but he didn't. Phil Brown was just on the radio and he mentioned it as a wrong decision (without even being asked about it specifically).
  11. According to NSNO (doesn't say where they got it).. David Moyes has spoken about his contract and the delay in getting it signed, and insists that the problem lies with the club not sending back either an approved contract offer, or a request for compromise in the latest round of discussions. “It is not a matter of compromise,” he said. “I have been sitting waiting for it [the contract] to come back from the club for quite a while now but I am not unsettled by it, not at all. “But what happens is that when the manager’s position becomes uncertain then uncertainty can come into the club, I accept that. That is not the reason for this performance or the ones before but I agree it doesn’t help the situation.”
  12. Standard beat Anderlecht 2-1 on Friday to stay top of the table and keep their unbeaten start going (Anderlecht are second). They've won five, drawn one and scored twelve goals while conceding three. 100% home record also . Not looking hugely hopeful at the moment .
  13. Almond croissants are nice . But, on reflection, breasts probably offer a better opportunity of sexual gratification .
  14. You obviously know nothing about films. It's a bit like saying, "Who are Marlon Brando, Steve McQueen, James Dean, Clint Eastwood and Robert Redford?" Paul Newman. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000056/
  15. Got a long way to go before they're as good as they think they are. Nice one Wigan....tipped them in the Anusol as well .
  16. Likewise . I scored all four in a 4-1 win once which was fun. Can remember the first though, when I was about eight and I went to watch my big bro's team and they were a man (boy) down so I played. Was much smaller than everyone else and I was told just to make a nuisance of myself.....I stood in front of the opposition keeper at a corner, the ball flew straight at me and, more to avoid getting hurt by it than any intent I stuck my knee up in front of me. Ball hit it and bounced in the net . The celebration nearly killed me .
  17. Nice one Jamie....didn't pick that . However, in Aaron's defence you have to point out that Riley is paid £57,000 a year (plus match fees & expenses) to get it right while the Lad is just an enthusiastic amateur .
  18. May well have done Steve....this is the first mention I can find, following the Jan 2006 window.
  19. Wish them well, as I do (almost) all promoted sides, specially teams in the top flight for the first time, but I think they'll do well to finish 17th.....and I think if you offered the manager that now he'd probably take it.
  20. Penalties have been given many times for much less than Skrtl's shirt pulling on Fellaini....there could have been no complaints had it been given.
  21. A TT transfer window regular....always speculation that we're going to sign Noah Baadhi although we'd rather have his brother Sum Baadhi, even his cousin Enny Baahdi would do. Can't remember who first came up with it, might have a search back some time .
  22. I know it's painful but a few more votes would be nice people .
  23. I've only just forgiven Liam for posting a revealing pic of my wife a couple of years back . Page 11 of "The Longest Thread" for anyone who missed it .
