  1. Just seen the game.......WTF? It must be almost impossible to have so much possession and come away with our tails between our collective legs. We lacked vision, commitment, honesty and any wish to win that game. We were great until we got to their penalty box, then we completely ran out of ideas (if indeed we ever had any to start with). Osman was pretty crap generally, but at least he wanted to have a go. The service to Lukaku just was not there, midfield was too busy pissing around trying to look good on the ball, but missing the whole point of the game.....to score more goals than the opposition. Midfield are not direct enough and they don't play the easy ball. Peinaar and Barkley are the worst offenders....looking to beat a man or two before laying it off, although to be fair nobody in the team gives the ball-carrier options and often P&B have to take on players just to progress. Palace had more going forward than we did and at least had a couple of good shots....as well as a few shit ones too......but they were looking to score, And once they saw that we were not really that interested they gave it a good go. We were lucky to come away with a point. Leave it at that and move on!
  2. Politically incorrect but true nonetheless. The gap between the 'haves' and 'have nots' has never been so wide where maybe only 5 of the premier league teams can ever hope to land a 'name' player because of the outrageous transfer fees and even more outrageous salaries they demand. There are another couple of teams like us for instance who are trying to hang on in the race but are who are, in the words of Shirley Bassey ultimately always going to be outsiders with 'our noses pressed up against the window pane'. Any fairy godmother/godfather who wants to buy a PL team as a business needs some serious psychological assessment as it will never return a profit that justifies the initial cost. A fairy godmother/godfather who just loves the game and is prepared to back it with cash is a rare beast indeed....or at least someone who got their money legally is anyhow. Until that time comes (and Bill wants to let go of the reins) we carry on as best we can. It can be done...the likes of Swansea and Cardiff are testament to that. Now PL teams, it remains to be seen as to how long they can cut it at the top level.
  3. Does this now mean a Goodison return for Lescott? He didn't even make the bench last weekend.
  4. Let's get a grip here people. Just watched Cheski v Citeh and we're not close to these teams in terms of quality, not in any one position but as an overall squad. Our defence leaks like sieve and midfield progresses sideways pretty much as they've done for years. Citeh and Utd are well below par so far this season and we are only 2 points off 2nd but that's because this season is so tight as Spurs were real lucky at the weekend to come away with 3 points and Soton have a better goal difference but nobody's touting them for top 4. It's all in the 38 games....long term resilience and the ability to win games when things are going down the crapper.....and this takes a squad in depth, something we're never likely to see in my lifetime unless we find a fairy godmother/godfather. We may make it one season on pure guts but the big Euro competition the next season will seem like an eternity as we'd have to play our best team twice a week to have any real chance at making it to the knock-out stages and that would certainly compromise our league chances (injuries etc). Am I a knocker?......no just a realist and dedicated Blues fan who wants the club to do it's best with what we're able to get.. It's wonderful to dream and I've done my share too but let's not let get too carried away here. Beware of what you wish for! That doesn't stop the dreaming though eh?

    Man City

Sorry guys, but all this smacks of sour grapes. Bad refereeing and lost penalty opportunities aside we were for the most part beaten by a better side. After their previous two debacles, there was no way they were going to lose again and whoever was up next was in for a sound tonking. Just happened to be us up next and under the circumstances we did an OK job. We certainly could do with another McCarthy-type in midfield as I feel we are less than mobile at times, but you have to play with what you've got. Citeh would have done some other teams on the day by five or more......we did OK. Move on!
  6. I just watched the Toon game, first game of the season I've seen 'cos of a longish holiday in US. For the time he was on the pitch he wasn't really that involved too much but when he was, he reminded me so much of Alex Young, my childhood idol. He just drifted about, almost godlike with the touch and control that most others can only dream about, the ball seemingly tied to his boot. He'll either be a mega-star if he gets his head right or a complete twat if he doesn't take direction well. It's all up to him. Meantime, just enjoy the ride. How far will it go?
  7. There was a gay guy here in Oz that played top grade Rugby League. There was no way you could say he was effeminate ...and you wouldn't want to find yourself down a dark alley on the wrong side of him, if you know what I mean. Don't know whether Torres is that way....but he is a cnut!
  8. and here I was thinking that the answer was 147. HHGTTG
  9. How seriously are they for sale anyway? Lindegaard, Anderson and Fabio are all on the Asian tour. Would they be taken if they were surplus to requirements? Nani however is not on the tour...maybe the move to Italy (Napoli is it?) will happen.
  10. Dave was the epitome of the man who put his life on the line for his club, fans and fellow players. I just caught the end of his career at Goodison as I was young (once). Saw a pic once of him full length, a foot off the ground, with his head into a bunch of flying boots to get a head on a fast low cross. These were the days of heavy leather boots with leather studs nailed into the sole and with a toe cap somewhat like today's safety boots....sometimes with the nails showing! Bravery of the highest order and a gentleman by all accounts. RIP
  11. What a childish bunch of absolute tossers some of you folks on here can be sometimes. "It wasn't me ...it was him!" etc etc. What does it matter whether someone wants to read a forum post or not? Why the fcuk should it bother you anyway? If you don't want to read it.....don't! Simple really. I havn't been a Moyes fan for a number of years and don't care how he gets on at Manure except that I'd really like to see him fcuk up bigtime.(So I wanted to read these posts) Nothing personal you understand but a Utd side in disarray or playing less than best can only be a bonus for Everton FC as it could take prospective opposition out of the picture for CL places......and for no other reason. So please, you self-righteous gits get off peoples backs who just want to read posts and enjoy the forum. Some of you on here just seem to be getting off on slagging off anyone who disagrees with your point of view. FFS....grow up!
  12. Hmmmm..... Point taken. What an absolute tosser! Certainly not required at Goodison. Thank you very much, but no thank you!
  13. He's obviously a somewhat gifted player, but what's the issue? Are you folks supposing he has a behaviour problem or do you really know?
  14. Winston is a good young Kiwi who has come on by leaps and bounds this past season. Seems pretty solid to me even against the top players...has had the odd moment of strangeness, but playing for the Hammers....who wouldn't have? A stand-out player in a team of striking ordinariness. NZ hasn't had a long footballing history as such...most of their better players were only fringe-players in the Prem and Europe. I see that Ryan Nelsen (ex-Blackburn) is coaching MLS with Toronto FC.
  15. Don't know whether this is the right part of the forum or whether it should be a new topic...... Many are talking of who we'd like to have in the new season....but are we forgetting that we have to have another 'keeper? Mucha's contract is up (?) and as far as I know we have no great performer in the wings ready to make an entrance. Moyes was a great fan of Howard, Mucha hardly got a look in and I think we need someone to give Howard a little competition. There was talk some time back of Maksym Koval of Kiev, Sean Johnson of Chicago Fire and Zieler of Hannover.......how have these guys come on during the last season and are any of them real prospects?
  16. yeah Honda was everywhere. Quite aggressive without being dangerous if you know what I mean and was involved in pretty well everything the Japs did. Not frightened to have a go either although a couple of snap shots were well wide or over. Played behind the striker and was great support, always on the move, looking to give the front men options (something we're sadly lacking in) looking dangerous. He scored the equaliser for Japan with a Bobby-Charlton-esque penalty that near tore the net off the frame. He would be a great asset......if we could afford him.
  17. Just wondering though, who is it that is making the decision on the new manager? Presumably Bill Kenwright. We've been told on here that Walter Smith recommended Moyes. If in fact Bill Kenwright knows shit all about the game as some have said, should we be entirely hopeful that he makes the right decision at all? The easy option for him (God help us) is if he promotes from within. Next would be by Moyes' recommendation (maybe promoting from within) and the most difficult for Kenwright would be to choose one himself. For the latter does anyone on here have any confidence that he knows enough to make a considered choice? This is not about being (or not being) a good businessman, purely about his credentials for making the right decision in a footballing sense. What is the current feeling?
  18. Hmmmmm....suspended for breach of contract eh? Sounds like Gus wants to be on the move. His managerial profile is similar to that of Moyes at Preston and he does seem to have ambitions elsewhere than Brighton. (He is said to have voiced that he has taken Brighton as far as he is able, hence the breach.....) Great player credentials (not that it is entirely relevant) both Euro and International and good management credentials too. Considering that he's only 45 and been assistant manager at Leeds, Swindon and Spurs and had good results too as top man at Brighton he could be a good investment....and cheaper too than many of those others that have been touted. IMHO worth a go!
  19. Yeah, great to watch. Couldn't help noticing that Neville had a grin all over his face.......is it just me or do you think perhaps he has a little secret that may come out after the last game? What price on him being Assistant coach or some such position? Could leave the incoming manager with a little headache if he wants to bring his own people in as they often do.
  20. I am indeed surprised that a supporter of any club wouldn't know the origins of the club sponsor. Even more surprised that someone who did know wouldn't have tried it at least once even if it was just to see how bad it could be. As it happens it's not too bad. Had an opportunity when visiting UK last year to get some in a Thai restaurant at Romney....when the staff found out I was a blues supporter they gave me a pretty flash Chang Beer mug as a souvenir.
  21. I remember that many years ago when I was about 15 (1962ish) my father won a signed ball in a raffle in Moreton. Thrre balls were on offer...an Everton ball, a Liverpool ball and a Tranmere ball, all signed by the current teams at the time. Guess which my father won? Think Div 4 and Prenton Park. Bugger!
  22. Pretty sure that's what it's all about...just a stylised version of the true logo. Hope to god we don't lose the original though....OK I'm an old fart, but the history of this club goes way back beyond my lifetime, my father's and his father's too. The logo and the motto are as much a part of the club as Goodison itself. Change it for keyrings and beach towels? OK, but leave the original on shirts and Goodison!
  23. Going a little off-topic here, but this will be the scenario if we get to Europa league again. Our squad is wafer-thin with experienced players and any injuries or just general 'worn out' will see us perhaps in the same position as other under-funded teams, struggling in the Prem while we have a good run aginst fairly ordinary opposition in Euro. Newcastle this season have had the problem (Stoke too?). Only Spurs seem to have had the best of both worlds of those out of the top 4. Those who whinge about Naismith playing at all will need to re-think if he plays every game because of injuries or otherwise of other players. We really need to be careful of what we wish for.
  24. I read somewhere a little while ago that 50% of Americans think that the Moon landings were fake. And that 50% of Americans think that wrestling is real, Are they the same 50% or the other 50%? Just my 2 bob's worth. Going to do Route 66 in August 2013 for a month....maybe then I'll have some real insights. Until then, I can only look as far as the Walmartians
  25. What good in the world would a Euro campaign do us? Our squad is pitifully small, I honestly think Euro would be too much at present. Better I think to re-group now and have a longer opportunity to build for next season. Please don't tell me that a Euro spot would bring the team together etc etc. A Cup 1/4 final didn't do it! Bring new players into the club?......nah! didn't happen for Stoke or any of the others that have floundered in Euro comps. Geordies?.....OK, but they had to pay big for them! I for one would rather bite the bullet now with good prospects on the horizon than suffer more of the shite we are being served up as football. Sometimes you just have to do it for the better future of the club and forget about the current season. Shortsightedness and short-term band-aid fixes are not viable alternatives when the better option is available at comparitively little cost. Could cost very little if we don't get a manager that costs 3mill a year.
