  1. I ran it through Google translate. (You're right, Palfy: it was Double Dutch!) "Why PSV has to work hard to keep top talent Isaac Babadi (18): Brentford and Eintracht want to strike quickly. Everton is also working on the creative attacker, who only has a one-year contract and is waiting for a proposal from PSV." 2. Since McTominay is in our sights and Henderson (three years younger than Pickford) could be part of a deal, I can see a potential transfer happening. But let's get the most from it: What about Lacey thrown in as well as a potential winger?
  3. He's a capable keeper and would make an excellent backup.
  4. Hardly the most impressive player highlight reel I've watched, but he does appear to get himself in the right place at the right time and uses his physicality well.
  5. 20% of the deal. What we always forget is that agents want nothing more than teams to transfer players in and out. When you look at debits and credits, teams almost always spend more than they make on players while agents win no matter what. And the fees can be extortionate. Put another way, if we were to sell Iwobi for 25M, say, we'd be left with about 20M to buy a replacement - which means we end up with a player of less quality or we spend millions to stand still. If a player is contributing, then work with him to get even more from him.
  6. Oops. Wrexham, recently playing in the National League and with a forward who's 46 years old, just beat the US Women's team 12-0 in a format where the halves are only 20 minutes instead of the usual 45 minutes. Mind you, I wonder whether it would've been that different if they'd played the US Men's team. Kudos to the US team's goalie who made at least ten good saves to stop it from being an even bigger rout. With so much organized sport compared to Britain, you have to wonder why the US is so poor at the national level. My guess is that it's because soccer/football has yet to become one of the big televised sports - and that may be because there are no frequent breaks during which to play commercials. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ojb430E55zA
  7. What about recruiting Israel's U20 number 9? An incredible win over Brazil.
  8. Pity he didn't have to pay that amount as a fine if they failed to win a game.
  9. Literally, a £60m save (what we would have lost in TV money if relegated).
  10. Fairytale story hits harsh reality. My guess is they'll use MK's stadium as an interim measure.
  11. Wow. The majority owner of Leeds has used Elland Road as guarantee for a loan to take over Sampdoria - and never told his ownership partners. This could end up very badly for Leeds. Imagine if the bank foreclosed on their stadium. https://theathletic.com/4568028/2023/06/01/leeds-elland-road-sampdoria-radrizzani/
  12. 25 years old. 6'5" tall. Goalscorer. I don't know him, but the profile appears to fit.
  13. 15 minutes left if we want to activate...
  14. Your two positions are incompatible: either we sell Pickford and Onana or we buy just two or three players on the cheap. What’s more important when we face such a decision? To me, the team is more important than individuals.
  15. I'd swap Pickford for Henderson and UKP 50m from United. Also, since Chelsea have a large number of prospects in their farm system, use Onana as leverage to get two or three of them. These are our two principal assets right now and, much as it would be wonderful to keep both, our team as a whole needs too many new players, and that must take precedence. I would NOT be looking for players from the relegated teams.
  16. I watched the Leeds versus Spurs game, and both teams are poor. The only good player on the field, in my opinion, was Harry Kane, who is truly clinical. That's what we need: a clinical finisher. Sometimes, when a team is relegated, we might be able to pick up a player or two (as we did Tarkowski and McNeil), but I see no-one of note or of potential at Leeds. As for the manager who's as good as Pep, it was so nice to see his team go down! For anyone who's read the Dalziel and Pascoe books of Reginald Hill, Crooked Sam is how I imagine the character Andy Dalziel to look.
  17. I agree. His overall tenor is not good enough. Neither is his alto-ego.
  18. Now the pressure is off, we must look coolly and critically at our squad. I don't believe in wholesale changes, but there are clear and obvious needs. Manager: I'd keep Sean Dyche because he did the job he was asked to do - but so did Frank Lampard last season. We do need managerial stability, though, so give him the opportunity. Goalkeeper: Pickford had a fabulous season and saved us so many points. Now is when he's at peak value, though, if we want to be financially hard-nosed. As someone else mentioned a few weeks ago, I'd take Henderson and a boatload of cash from United if it was offered. Defence: It really is time for Seamus to retire and for Patterson to step up. On the other side, Mykolenko is average and we could do better. In the centre, I'm a fan of Tarkowsky, although he does have his off moments. Mina is gone. Can Keane ever overcome his confidence deficit? I'd move him on. Coady played his role this year, but we should not activate his extension. Holgate needs shifting out. Godfrey is average, and we can do better. Dyche is probably the right guy to overhaul our defence. Midfield: This is where we're the strongest. Garner will soon become a mainstay. Onana has been quite naive, but he will improve. Gana is past his prime but is still a valuable player. On the whole, I like Iwobi, but he is inconsistent and too often misses the final pass. O'Neill has been a pleasant surprise under Dyche and should only get better. Davies needs to be moved out, and we could do with someone who's a Gana-type player. Up-front: This has been our Achilles Heel all season. How could our owners believe, for one moment, that we could sell Richarlison and Gordon and not replace them? Maupay does not fit in our team. Gray's been given more than enough opportunities and usually fails to deliver. Maybe Simms has potential (although I'm not convinced), and even more so does Cannon. DC-L is so important, but we need at least two strong forwards. This is where we must really invest. Our bench is really weak, and we cannot go another season without having cover in every part of the field. Never again must we put ourselves in a situation where injury to one player (this season, it was DC-L) puts the team's success in doubt.
