  1. Hey - if I can make predictions after knowing a score, I'm rooting right now for Wales!
  2. Am predicting Iceland to win tonight over Holland. Iceland are seriously underrated (almost made it to the WC), while the Dutch are overrated (and didn't deserve to progress so far in the WC).
  3. At least now we know your age.
  4. John, if you send me a message with some details of your earlier trip, I'd be glad to reach out to them to see whether they remember. It seems that one of the Yanceys remains chairman of the board.
  5. It looks like Whole Foods (which are very popular around here) do operate five stores in England. Their prices for some things are a little higher, but not excessively so. With so many large supermarkets all around, they'd not survive if their prices were outrageous. Interesting advice about milk. Maybe that's something I should look into. There is a place close to Atlanta that sells unpasteurized milk also, and friends of mine swear by it. Based on government rules, though, I'm not sure that they are even allowed to sell it any more - which is ridiculous. The taste, apparently, is very different.
  6. I rarely go shopping, but more often than not it's to the local Whole Foods Market. Not sure whether organic food stores have hit mainstream in Britain yet, but I would hope so.
  7. Hey, don't mock burger joints. Just look at these beauties in Atlanta. Tell me you can read this article without your mouth watering... http://www.seriouseats.com/2014/05/our-top-10-burgers-in-atlanta-georgia.html
  8. I'll have to defer to Verreauxi on this one. Not only does he have a PhD, but he remains a fully fledged purist academic - whereas my hands have been muddied by not only working in industry but by being in sales (what a shameful confession). When Verreauxi and I met over dinner, I seem to remember that he chose the red snapper, coaxed from a deep-water Norwegian fiord, drizzled with a fine mussel and ras el hanout infused sauce, with lightly poached Madagascar quail eggs and quinoa from the Zanzibari flatlands. In my case, I had a lamb burger and chips.
  9. Really? I've lived here all these years and never realized it? I love lamb and often choose it when eating out. I thought everyone was looking at me because I'm just so good looking, but maybe it was the lamb.
  10. Lamb is on most restaurant menus, so I don't understand that one.
  11. If the score is 2-1, you get a point for predicting 1-0, 3-2, or 4-3, for example, because the goal difference is the same: +1. You don't get any points, though, for predicting 0-1, 1-2, 2-3, or 3-4. That's a goal difference of -1. Good try, though.
  12. As already noted, Romey scored the first 10-pointer of the season - albeit we all wish he hadn't. He won this week's contest by a large margin and, of course, leads the month of October by the same margin. MikeO is tied with him for the season lead, since Mogsy paid the price for failing to make a prediction. Still, the latter leads in average points per prediction. Note: I've included people in the "average points" list only if they have made at least 3 predictions.
  13. What's really exciting is that both Garbutt and Browning had great debuts, and Galloway is waiting in the wings. Over the next decade, we could have a phenomenal mostly home-grown defence.
  14. Interesting split of opinion so far. It's about 50% win, 25% draw, and 25% loss.
  15. Very interesting that Martinez sees Stones as a future captain. In many ways, McCarthy is the engine of the team, yet it would seem his personality is not suited to captaincy. Martinez appears to believe that captains are to some extent born that way.
  16. Which revealed to me the option of deleting my vote. Had never spotted that button before.
  17. Just so our American friends know what Cornwall sounds like.
  18. Yesterday, Hibbert had one vote. Today he has none. How did that happen?
  19. This would be an excellent lineup. If Pienaar is ready, though, I'd play him first, with McGeady taking his place during the second half.
  20. He knows that game will be a draw, which is why his comment was about the home game - the one that will clinch our berth in the playoff rounds.
  21. Job done. Only one sub used, so players rested. Now to face United before a deserved break.
  22. Some comments were positive, but I found others demeaning.
  23. This could be a high-scoring game, although I'd take our current defence over theirs any day.
