  1. Then maybe I need to justify my original suggestions: Will be interesting to see who starts. Distin was rested [and could be used to give either Jagielka or Alcaraz a break], and so were Eto'o [who could start ahead of Lukaku] and Besic [giving Barry a rest] - both of whom have European experience [particularly important and not to be underestimated]. Atsu will probably start [maybe ahead of McGeady] and I would guess Hibbert too because of his experience [and because we shouldn't put too much pressure on Coleman who's straight back from injury]. Now, does that sound better?
  2. Today I attended a party given in honour of a beautiful young lady that we know. There were several other guests present and a good time was being had by all. As a special gift, we gave the young lady a new dress. She was so excited that, in front of everyone, she immediately stripped off all her clothes and begged to be able to wear the new dress. Happy birthday to Maddy, my little granddaughter, who turned 3 today. Just don't do that in 20 years' time!
  3. I remember this game as well. Banks was a great keeper. As I remember, England were knocked out of the ensuing World Cup by West Germany (who else?), although I seem to remember that Alan Mullery scored in that game. That World Cup in Mexico still sticks in my mind. It kicked off with a 0-0 draw between Mexico and Russia. In the weeks before, you could buy these packs of cards with players/managers in the WC. I had all but three of them: Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters, and Alf Ramsey. Then, after spending an afternoon with my grandad, he bought me another pack of cards, and, to my delight, in included both Hurst and Peters. Finally, I traded about 100 duplicates with my cousin for an Alf Ramsey card, which gave me the complete set. I wish I still had it.
  4. I love hot peppers. Eat scotch bonnets, habaneros, etc as snacks. A colleague of mine grows ghost peppers. Never had one of them.
  5. If you're going to insult me, at least learn how to spell your insults correctly.
  6. But it failed for traditional American sports. There's a huge Hispanic population (it is mostly a Spanish-speaking city after all), so football may do better. PS - I don't see that it has much to do with snowbirds or retirees. They tend to have homes farther up the coast, not in Miami. It's more the fact that people from Latin America just don't like American football, baseball, ice hockey, or basketball.
  7. Suggests that Everton not develop Barkley or Stones too soon! For crying out loud, they are now full England internationals. Neither were regular starters under David Moyes. Is he suggesting that Martinez rushed them into the team?
  8. Will be interesting to see who starts. Distin was rested, and so were Eto'o and Besic - both of whom have European experience. Atsu will probably start and I would guess Hibbert too because of his experience.
  9. Remembering this post and glad that you were hopelessly wrong. I'm sure you are, too.
  10. If he's a starter against Lille, why even have him on the bench?
  11. All four played, and three of them started. You must be cock-a-hoop.
  12. Indecision will cost you! It cost shukes two points, and it cost pete0 a point, so beware! Congratulations this week to markjazzbassist, who managed 6 points: 5 for a correct score and one for predicting Lukaku as a scorer. Given his 10-pointer in the last game, Romey leads in all other categories: points for the month, points for the season, and average points per prediction. Note: your name appears in the final category only if you've made at least three predictions this season.
  13. We are the same number of points out of Top Four as separate the top two teams, we're less than a quarter of the way through the season, and we've already faced most of the teams above us.
  14. Barkley, because he's the one who ignited the team. Given it was his first game back from injury, he was very impressive.
  15. Good teams make their opponents look terrible.
  16. Maybe this is the turn-around game. Barkley has ignited the team.
  17. If you put aside last season's game at Anfield, he's pretty consistent.
  18. Hey, I've lived in the US for 28+ years, and I don't think I could have named more than two MLS teams. They just aren't well known. PS - I read the thread before posting, so now I know some of the teams. Before reading, though, I knew there were teams in NY and LA, but didn't know their names. I would have then just named the big cities: Dallas, Boston, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, .... I don't believe Atlanta has a team. Ah, but there is a team in Denver, because my son lives there and has mentioned them.
  19. Sturridge has sprained another muscle and will be out for a month.
  20. Ahhh. Disagreements aren't what they used to be.
  21. Same Catterick as later became manager or different person?
