1. You haven't had the opportunity to see his beard? Here you go...
2. Except that we had four England internationals playing yesterday, not three.
3. Sorry, but I find this entire discussion a joke. We've played four games, and Barkley didn't even play that well yesterday. This is all media hype, and we're falling for it. The young man is still learning, and he may well turn out to be a really strong players in the years to come, but let's not get carried away here.
4. He already has: draw at home to Chelsea and loss away to Liverpool. Next week's derby game could define his season.
5. Mirallas? Maybe if the decision was made on a 10-minute spell near the end of the game, but he was crap (again) initially. Barry was MOTM by a mile. I thought the composure of the team changed when McCarthy came on. The chemistry between Barry and McCarthy is already proving to work.
6. Only two teams are unbeaten so far this season: Everton and Liverpool. After Monday, we could be the only unbeaten team.
7. I have to swallow my own words about Gareth Barry. Today, in his first game for the club, he was the MOTM.
8. So who predicted that Naismith would score the winner?
9. These two teams provide most of England's defensive line. It's no surprise they are two of the three unbeaten teams in the league (Liverpool being the third).
10. Barry, Naismith, and Barkley all playing well.
11. What about triple points for "in off the ref"?
12. I enjoy actors whose energy is transparent on the screen. From another era, Jimmy Cagney brought unsuppressible energy to his characters. More recently, Roberto Bellini's energy was apparent in Life is Beautiful.
13. I hope you're right. The only change I'd make would be Deulofeu for Mirallas, perhaps at halftime.
14. One of those defeats was during the incredible run Wigan had two seasons ago against all the top teams. They really should have won away because both Chelsea goals were offside and Wigan totally outplayed them.

I'm looking forward to the game this weekend.
15. I've always been a fan of Sherlock Holmes and thought no one could top Jeremy Brett in that role. Well, I've been proved wrong: Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock is simply superb, and I can't wait for the next series to begin. I was also a big fan of John Thaw as Inspector Morse and dream of owning a "Morse car". Not movie characters, per se, but I actually watch very little TV and rarely see movies.
16. This is supported by McCarthy's comment in today's article by the BBC in which he stated that he won't walk right into the team but will take time to earn his way there. So does this mean that Osman plays? I hope not. Is Gibson back to full fitness?
17. In another thread, someone posted stats for the games in which Kone has played for Everton. They prove that we're giving him a bad rap. He has been playing much better than we give him credit for.
18. Today is 9/11 and I started the day by driving through Manhattan and admiring the new Liberty tower built on the rubble of the twin towers. It's symbolic of the nation. It may have its problems, but it has a resilience that means it will always bounce back. On the actual 9/11, I ws flying from Zurich to New Delhi. It took two weeks to get home, although most of that time was spent with family in Cornwall. At one point, while driving down the M5, classic fm played Barber's Adagio for Strings to remember the 9/11 victims. I had to pull over. It was one of the very few times in life that I could do nothing but cry.
19. When I visit Britain, all I notice at the end of each item on the BBC news is "thank you very much indeed", with a sickly ingratiating smile - as if one anchor just gave the other their most desired wish. It used to be just a turn to the camera: "and now...".
20. Forgive the compilation, but there was only ever one George Best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp7cTlvHgUQ
21. The bend of this free kick almost defies the laws of physics.
