I'll put it the best way for all you Martinez haters. We can have two choices. The first is to get a manager like moyes, or even moyes to turn us back into a team that is hard to beat and regularly gets top seven finish. You may see that as a positive, the problem with this type of manager, and it's been proved, is they will always shit out on the next step and won't have enough nouse to make the next step to elite.
Martinez on the other hand wants to play a certain style that bridges a huge gap between ourselves and the mid table to lower sides. Yet, would still be more than capable of challenging any top four side regularly. Sure, it may have turned sour this season but what Martinez is trying to teach could all click into place in one season witht the right individuals.
I would take the latter any day of the week, cause the day we just except the initial, is the day the club fades into insignificance.
I really do understand where people get the hump with this guy but would I would rather back a manager with European pedigree and an intelligent football brain ahead of a substanderd, sit on the fence moyes.
Stabilisation over progression or progression over safety.
well said brett i agree with you. i'm backing RM till the very end.

That's a great point Jazzy...his strategy with Ross is the same as it is with Barkley.
Haha...
haha sorry i meant barry
-
Would love to see him go, will laugh when he's riding the bench for a CL team. Inconsistent, injured, selfish, no thanks. Would rather have a youngster in there than this selfish prick.
You want to win us back kev, sign the contract we offered.
-
It seems like Martinez strategy with Ross is the same none he used with barkley. Instead of benching him for his form, he's hoping he plays his way out of the bad form.
Not sure if I agree with it, but it did work for barry.

better than a loss. now that we know Mirallas true colors off with him. 12m and get us another 2 wingers and a loan. Would rather see Kone on that wing instead of kev.
-
Sell him bobby, get 12m please.

Stuck at work, can't watch, but loving this thread. Coyb

Very accurate article in my opinion.
Basically:-
We rarely win without James McCarthy
We need Lukaku and Mirallas to be hungry as they are key elements who lack consistency - MCD dont have a meltdown - a fully fit and performing Mirallas is a great asset
Exactly. He understands how important McCarthy is for us. I hope he gets back asap.

Dude I live in New Orleans as well. Where in the city are you? I lived in the upper ninth ward and just moved to lakeview.
Have fun at the match.
-
From that point of view, you'd hope he stayed. But only if Lukaku was learning from him.
But as said, if he wants to play more or isn't happy in his role etc, let him go. An unhappy player is no good.
At the moment, we have Lukaku, Eto'o, Kone, Naismith and Barkley...all players of certain qualities...fighting for 2 central roles. If Eto'o goes and it frees up some salary to bring in a wide man, and balances the forward line better, then I'm all for it.
Exactly, we need a winger badly.

I should have phrased what I said better, apologies. Romey and others are jumping on Martinez because he said he doesnt care about clean sheets he just cares about winning. Some have taken this to say he doesn't care about defense. My point was that Roberto is not naive and to win a game you need offense so not caring about a clean sheet doesn't mean he doesn't care about defense, it simply means in the simplest way, to win a game you just out score the opponent.
Obviously you need 11 men and defense and offense and the transition game, etc. im not against any of that, I love a solid d and keeper. What I am saying is rm isn't agaisnt defense, and isn't naive.
Not sure if you all follow basketball but there was a college team that won multiple championships by playing minimal defense. They simply attacked and moved the ball as fast as possible back down the court to score. By their superior scoring skills and conditioning they would wear teams down and win by 20 points. All attack.
That's not to say I believe in that way, just putting different ideas out there.
-
But it can stop you losing. So would you prefer 1 or 0 points?
3 points. You play to win. You don't play to not lose.
-
I didn't say you win a game by not out scoring the opponent did I? The defensive side of the game isn't irrelevant and to say it is is just stupid. If you concede less then it makes a hell of a lot easier to win games because you have to score less. It's a lot of pressure on our attack if they pretty much know they have to score at least 2 goals every single game.
If defence is irrelevant then let's sell all our defenders and just play attacking players... Bullshit. Plain and simple.
Martinez said winning the the most important. You claim he is naive for not mentioning defense. But you fail to see that the only way to win is score. Defense is great but it cannot win a game. Simple as that. So he's not naive, he knows how to win a game, by scoring.
Never said not to play defense or whatever, just saying the letter of the law is scoring is the o oh way to win, so therefore Martinez is not naive.
-
Sunderland sign Defoe.
With altidore going to Toronto FC. An end to another woeful PL spell. Hope he finds the goal in Canada.
-
Naive. Being better defensively doesn't half help to win football matches, to dismiss it like it's irrelevant is idiotic.
It is irrelevant. Explain to me how you win a football game by not out scoring the opponent. Not possible. Defense is great, but offense is the only way to win the match, unless you want davie draw back.
-
Sounds good, 30% is doable. Now go sign em up bobby.

Teams in the conference can "play". The SPL is probably a little above that level. but a very little, The fact that Celtic are so weak that they're still being challenged by the likes of Hamilton and Inverness says it all. Been an Aberdeen follower nearly as long as I've been an Evertonian and even though they're top currently have no illusions. Celtic will win the league with an awful squad; they're just a bit less awful than the rest.
Agreed mike. Some posters on here were very disparaging towards the deal saying Martinez is an idiot and Everton what a joke. All I was saying is they are competing well and will stay up, so it's actually a decent thing if we want young players to get loaned there or something. Not saying they are world beaters up there, but it's nice to see them doing well.
-
Other Dundee but they are doing well in the SPL, I know a lot of folks on here were talking down about the partnership since they just were promoted but they can play.
-
Ha! I've had mine out for the past few weeks. I've hardly commented, but have been tempted often! All the 'neg heads' are having a field day...doing my tits right in.
BUT it's been a good read every day! It's funny that not long ago I was accused of causing shit for a certain someone...total bollocks of course...strange how it carries on still.
While I'm on, might as well add my views on the relegation battle. There is no relegation battle. Blah. Blah. Blah. Whatever.
Spot on and good to have you back.
-
I didn'tmean it was the clubs fault I meant only us could have a player claim he'd signed and we had agreed to loan him straight out when it quite clearly isn't true.
Ah my bad, then I agree completely.
-
Yes please!!
-
Only atEverton.
Has nothing to do with Everton. They were interested in the kid and he goes blabbing to the press acting like its a done deal. My pops used to say don't count your chickens before they hatch. Kid should take that advice.
