Don't see the issue if it's in a captaincy, from the bench kinda' role.

If we've got plans to play him for a good portion of the season then we're asking for trouble.

Played better than Patterson on numerous occasions this past season.  Reality is that our squad's level is low and we have been and are in trouble.

Glad our captain is back in our thin squad.  A true blue.

I agree with Fosse Captain, seeing all the moves for players that are being made shows the state we are in. I really hope my trust in Dyche isn't misplaced as he's worked on a shoestring before. Not forgetting Thelwell but I'm still a bit meh there.

Thelwell and Dyche did not put us in our current situation.  Disappointment, frustration, anger lies solely at the feet of the owner and chairman.

Maybe I was being too optimistic.
Only said 10 as we've already let a couple go and were needing 5 players before that!

Sad to see other clubs making moves and we're emptying the money tin to see what we can scrape together.
That said, its around now that contracts expire etc so maybe we'll be surprised as we leap into action.
Shows how bad we are that Tielemans goes to Villa on a free.
Maddison at £40 million is good value too, and we've paid similar prices for absolute shite.
Both way better players than anything we have / had

We are not signing 10 players... and we need a center forward not a center midfielder.

I think Tyler Adams would be a much better replacement for Gana.  His stats were mostly better than McTominay's - especially for tackles, blocks, and interceptions, where he was one of the best in the league this year.  In fact, he was top 5 in the league in tackles and top 10 in tackles+interceptions even though he missed the last 11 matches. Adams is also 2 years younger.

If Tyler Adams wasn't from the USA (or the UK), folks would be talking less about him on this forum.

You cite he was top 5 in tackles and top 10 in interceptions+tackles... but guess who was ahead of him in both categories? Gana.

Further more, I do not think Adams is in the top 10 for tackles+interceptions... in fact I do not think he is in the top 20 for interceptions...

  5. Is he really up to the pace of the EPL? I have my doubts.  Rondon had EPL experience and goals but you need pace in this league.

Would really like us to be focusing on the future and would rather take a chance on someone with less experience but has pace.  This would mean they have the potential to take DCL's spot vs just holding us over until he is fit.

Broja, Guehi, Adams, one of (Kent, Adama, Aaronson, Barnes), 3 depth signings, selling Holgate Keane and Maupay and I'd be over the moon.

Can't really see us getting 7 signings but we had one more than that last summer if you count loans.  So who knows.

Broja would be a big gamble coming off that rather long nasty knee injury.  Wonder if the lad from Coventry or someone outside of England might be a better use of funds?  Saw some mentions about this in January but I wonder if a swap deal involving Maupay for Boulaye Dia from Salernitana might be shrewd.  16 goals and 6 assists in Serie A this season.  Would know Gana from the national team.

Doubt Guehi will leave Palace for us but stranger things have happened.  Would cost a lot to make it happen which is why I do not see it happening.

Also we really need reinforcement at full back before looking at the midfield.  Not sure we want to gamble with Patto and Myko as starters next season.

Thelwell and Dyche have their work cut out them... that is sure.

When they had a player down injured, he had his hand around the back of his neck which looked quite intimidating, but it looked as if he was doing a bit of a welfare check, as if to say "are you okay, yeah? stop fucking about and get on with it then". Worth his weight in gold is Tarks.

And I believe he's played every minute this season. Time to find him a partner. Think he is the best CB we've had since Jags.

    Agreed.

if someone is going to have to go then he wouldn't be missed in the slightest.

This describes most of the squad and ya probably can count on one hand the ones that it does not.

Get what you mean though.  With our finances we need to make money on anyone we can, when we can.  That Gordon deal was a blinder. (haha almost typed blonder, haha)

I'd like to see a few experienced players come in.

    Phil Jones - Hahaha Nope.

    Johnny Evans - Nope.

Veltman - If we want an over 30 RB then it has to be Coleman so nope.

Cresswell - Nope and a red.

    Coufal - Nope.

Serge Aurier - Was a red card magnet at Spurs. Nope.

Soyuncu - Already has a new club I think.

Lerma - Decent but we need a striker, fullback, and center back before we address the midfield.

Adama traore - No end product so nope.

Zaha - Can find the net but wages way too high so very unlikely.

Weghorst - Didn't go well with Dyche before so unlikely.

Comments in italics.  Unsure if we need tons of experience, high wages, and short contracts.  Time to start thinking like a modern club and planning for the future with younger prospects.  Buying talent to pole vault us into the top 6 was the Morshiri led mistake that has us in the our current mess.

  10. Find it odd that folks are so focused on Onana.  When we first bought him we all knew he most likely would not be here long.  So no surprise there at all.  He is a decent player who has performed better than some of the people in our squad.  Holgate, Davies, Keane, Godfrey, Coady, Patto, and Myko have all had some real howlers of games.  Onana would never give the ball away with lazy passing like Gana has. Onana either makes our starting lineup or would be a great option on a bench that is lacking any talent at all.  Like at all.  The emergence of Garner is a good thing.  Folks are always way too concerned about the starting 11 when it takes a squad to compete.  We should in no way be pushing him out or piling on him.  If a good deal comes in, sure sell him on and reinvest that just good business, but it needs to be a good deal.  If none arrive, just wait until the window that they do as his value is not going to drop.

We’re still in a mess after scrapping through yesterday, new financial backing will still have to work within FFP rules, so we’re not going to be big spenders. I was thinking last night who would I take from the 3 teams who dropped and from Championship, although I don’t know a great deal about many.

Southampton, Ward Prowse yes, but I think he’s off to a team higher up than us.

    Leeds, Jack Harrison

    Leicester Dewsbury Hall, Barnes, Castagne

    Gyorkeres, looked good on Saturday.

I would take Billings, he controlled Bournemouth’s tempo yesterday and bangs in a few goals.

Folks always look at the teams going down for deals but those teams are going down for a reason.  Additionally, all players with with PL experience (even ones who went down with a team) = high wages.  We have already gone down this road.  Our team is littered with players who got relegated.  Tarks, Doucs, Gana, Godfrey, etc.  It is ok to have a few experienced heads but we need to start thinking like the Brighton's and Brentford's of the world.  Identify areas to improve and then get young talent to fill those areas.

Key areas we need to improve in include first a striker, then fullback, then maybe CB depending who stays / goes (yerry is gone and coady and braithwaite situations are uncertain).  If you then look at those areas...  Leeds: Strikers? Nope. Full back? Nope. Center back? Nope.  Leicester: Strikers? Nope.  Full back? Probably not.  Center backs? Nope.  Southampton: Strikers? Nope.  Full backs? Maybe Kyle Walker-Peters but won't be cheap so is it worth it? Center backs? Probably not?

So given that teams going down do not really suit our needs, it is probably best to look else where.  Gyorkeres might be a decent move if the price is not too high.
