When the ref whistled that French free kick that lead to the first goal and whistled that penalty, which, for those who didn't see it, not a penalty, the ref has not just stolen the world cup victory from Croatia, but also stolen any honour with which the French could have won this tournament. Utter travesty and a dark day for football.

His hand is away from his body the ball strikes his hand the ball would have gone into the 6 yard box...clear pen. His body positioning was what caused the problem in the first place.

Apart from the free kick (which in real time looked like a foul) I thought the referee favoured Croatia especially towards the last 20 minutes of the game.

I also think that this has been one of the better world cups for refereeing just need to  stamp down on simulation.

One of two things; we get bids rejected or we get fleeced on the price

i think it might well happen, for a stupid price, as a way of settling any compensation for Silva. Either this guy or their Brazilian

Should just have a look next year after they go down.

Not for me. I was surprised at how good he was, specifically his decision making, which is something that I didnt normally expect from him.

Dont get me wrong I am not keen on the prices mentioned and we need to get hold of these players before they show their hand so to speak but I really like him and I expect him to shine wherever he goes (or stays).

I agree was class last season. He moans to the referee like an twat though.

So far so good, and just as good as anything we saw last night.

Young has been poor and Henderson has been too wasteful in playing it forward but everyone else has done well. Sterling and Stones have been great. Kane should have killed this game off, thank God it wasnt Sterline missing them chances.

Croatia look a bit rattled but they are getting back into it. Lovren is riled and both Sterling and Kane have him rattled in different ways.

Lets just hope the lads can finish the job.

If only Henderson could pick a long pass u’d be 3 up.

I mostly haven't been a fan of Roberto during his time in charge of Belgium, but he did well with the changes he made for the Brazil game. Moving to a 4-3-3 when defending and a 3-4-3 when attacking, inserting the less talented but more dependable Chadli for Carrasco, adding defensive steel with Fellaini for Mertens while at the same time freeing De Bruyne. He waited too long to make subs, I felt, as we stopped threatening Brazil on the counter attack as time went on in the second half. I didn't agree with taking Lukaku off, though Hazard ultimately did an incredible job keeping the ball and moving the team up field those final minutes.

I'm curious how he's going to line up against France though, now that Meunier is suspended. According to the Belgian press, the most likely option is that Chadli moves to right back and that either Carrasco re-enters the starting line-up at left wing back or that Vermaelen will play next to Kompany and Alderweireld and that Vertonghen plays left wing back. A less likely option would be that Chadli stays at that hybrid left wing back in attack / central midfield in defense role he played versus Brazil, that Vertonghen, Vermaelen and Kompany play at the back and Alderweireld plays right back.

I don't trust Carrasco defending on the same side Mbappé plays so out of those options I'd favor Vertonghen playing the left wing back position with Vermaelen backing him up. I don't know whether I trust that swapping between 4-3-3 and 3-4-3 either, that might work against the less brilliant Willian, but I think that's going to leave a lot of space for Mbappé in transition. I'm hoping for a fixed 4-3-3 with Vertonghen, Vermaelen, Kompany, Alderweireld in defense and Dembélé, Fellaini and Tielemans in midfield (of course Witsel is going to play though) behind Hazard, Lukaku and De Bruyne.

I think it’s Pogba you have to worry about tomorrow the French central players are a while different kettle of fish than Brazil.

To all those peeps who said no penalty because the ball was out of play.

Let me get this right, if a player is waiting to take a corner or throw in, the centre half headbutts a player smashing his nose and taking a few teeth out, that's ok because the ball was out of play. !!   Is that what I'm getting from that statement. ??

Umm that would be a red card and the throw in would be taken? Or are you trolling?

"Going out" doesn't matter it's contact clear as day penalty, tbh I'm glad it wasn't awarded anyway it's just deserts with having Neymar in their side

So you’re happy for penalties to be awarded when there would be no chance for the player to score had a challenge not been made in the first place?

The only way he was getting anything at all from that situation was a penalty kick it’s a tough one but I think it’s the right call in footballing terms.

Very poor from the ref and VAR room clear pen would have made it far more interesting

Defending well Belgium though won't be surprised if they get another on the counter Miranda is struggling with Lukaku

No way a pen the ball was already out when contact was made.

wow, we all truly do see the game differently.  he's looked completely lost and gone missing in all but maybe 2 games that i can remember.  little to no impact.  i was ready to crown him king of goodison after last year (lookman too) but both were well off it this year for me.  lookman's done ok in germany but that's a weak league.  i hope a new setup will rejuvenate everyone and well get the davies of his first year, i really do.

Our best midfielder this season has been Rooney. Sums it all up in my opinion.

Re-registered with a slightly different user name for some reason Bill http://www.toffeetalk.com/profile/3097-12ubb3rduck/

I just re-registered with Facebook 😊. Number one priority has to be a proven box to box centre mid someone who can pass and has better movement than gana without the ball. We problably played our best stuff with James McCarthy was playing this season and he’s bang average.

If we have the money for Lofthouse Cheek we should go all in for him with a bid,  to big for palace to compete with then offer gana to crystal palace.

Watched a lot of Palace this year and they played good stuff and everything went through Lofthouse Cheek to their front three. Their fullbacks are awful though.

Hopefully the squads sorted when I visit the UK again next year 👍

  11. Hello everyone haven’t posted here for a good 4 years but I’m always lurking. Decided to make a post after what has been a cancerous season.

The problems this season are created by our midfield there’s no movement for the ball in front of Schneiderlin, who as much of a piece of shit he’s been this season is still a quality player. You can’t pass the ball foward if there’s nothing in front of you.

I really think we should be looking at Aaron Mooy from Huddersfield cheap option if they go down aswell . Whenever I’ve seen him he runs their midfield and I just get the feeling he’s an Everton player when I watch him.

-Need a pacey replacement  at LB for Baines.

    -A young left footed CB.

    - a manager that wants to build a team around lookman, Walcott and Vlasic’
