  1. Why would the bank let us pay off the remainder of the loan when they are guaranteed to make more taking it out of our gate receipts? They consolidated our debts to make money not do us a favour. I think this TV money is a crucial point for Everton and it has to be spent wisely on players but I have a strong suspicion it is already ear marked for the stadium and someone elses pockets. I would like to say that I trust our antequated board members with tens of millions but based on past experience I don't. Way back the money for Jeffers, Ball, Dacourt and Barmby all dissapeared without a trace and the big boost the Shrek sale was supposed to give our squad saw us spend no more than usual. Managers have come and gone but our debt and financial acumen has always been poorly managed.
  2. Johnson's never hidden his desire to play for England and was one of the main reasons he left Crystal Palace. I think it'll be good for his confidence and we saw what difference that makes to his game after the whole "diver" campaign. He'll probably only get 20 minutes anyway.
  3. We got him from Home Farm our Irish feeder club before he hit 16 and put him into our youth team.
  4. Operating profits before player trading were 3.1M which is up on the previous year, despite the fact we finished several places lower in the league. We have significantly improved on the commercial side and have reduced the net interest we were paying on our debts by mortgaging it against gate receipts. The repayments are manageable now and reported debt now stands at 21M a large improvement over the 45M which was cited 2 years ago. In respect to buying new players, we should be firmly looking at Big Bill. He obviously has no money or no wish to invest heavily, possibly both, either way it's not good. One thing we can count on is he won't be giving up his mantle without a struggle. The fact we now expect a top 10 finish shows how far we have come but until he goes we'll continue treading water with Moyes getting the best out of average players.
  5. Our debts were consolidated some time ago and mortgaged against gate receipts for the next 30 years. That was our CE's main objective when he came here and we are now running at a profit - allbeit a small one. Money we have from transfers should be going back into re-strengthening the team. I believe our lack of transfer activity is partly due to the lack of quality available, partly due to the over-inflated European prices ( especially in the UK) but mainly down to Moyes indecisiveness. Remember Keith and Bill patting themselves on the back for getting players in early at the end of last season? That should be the standard not the exception. Now we into panic buys again - Andy Cole is the latest, fuck me its embarassing, whats next?
  6. He was putting him in the shop window just like he's trying to do with VDM.
  7. I was going to say something along those lines. Davies has done nothing to enhance his reputation since he's been at Everton. If anything he's gone backwards. At the time we signed him I said it was a waste of money and the fact we are on the other end of a daylight robbery for once, we should bite their hands off. First Kilbane now Davies, the deadwood is begining to shift, Naysmith and Weir can come off the wage bill next. We do need players and Moyes dithering in the transfer market has always been an issue for me but selling crap players for an inflated price can only be good business. I'm not too unhappy withMcfadden being injured either he's never going to come good, I'd prefer us to try and get Beatie his confidence back and give Vaughn a chance as well.
  8. Are you sure this was a direct quote? Cos you know how the media like to put a spin on something for a headline. For all his faults (and I would prefer someone with money take his place), Kenwright is true fan, I can't see him saying this. It's true about the monetary rewards, Allerdyce told the press during their UEFA group stage there's no money in it till you reach the quarters. That said, European football obviously raises a clubs profile which in turn attracts top European talent who want to do the same. This benefit far outways any small loss plus on top of all that and most important of all it gives us all something to shout about.
  9. It's reported 80% of Kenwrights money/assets are tied up already in the club. Bill let it slip there was no money for transfers in his post AGM interview with Everton TV. Then he backpeddled and changed the subject. He also said we borrowed heavily to being Johnson in last year. What the hell we actually spend our income besides wages (60% of our turnover) and crocked wasters ala VDM/ Kroldrup is beyond me.
  10. Fuck knows, we used to when Moyes first took over but its gone by the wayside. Some players like Johnson and neville press but its no good unless all ten do it. Its the bare minimum for players on 30k+ a week, lazy bastards.
  11. I went along today with last min tickets before I travel back down south tomora, shit seats..second from the back in the lower bullens . It was a great result but we played rubbish in the first half, newcastle were all over us. We still have a bad habit of trying the long/direct ball losing posession 80% of the time which is what was happening time and time again before Dyer dived. If the penalty had gone in we'd have lost. Whoever said VDM played well wasn't wathing the same game as me. Despite my defence of him over the months and our desperate need for a creative outlet in midfield apart from Arteta I'm 100% convinced the guy has to go in January. He has lost any hunger he had in a blue shirt, only chased the ball when the crowd got on his back, provided no cover whatsover for Valente, didn't look for the ball when we were going forward and looks overweight and completely unfit. he had his hands on his hips after 25 minutes..I can't believe Moyes left him on, complete liability, I can only assume he wants to put him in the shop window. Soon as Martins missed the penalty the game started to change. Yobo was a man mountain in defence,it's no exageration to say he didn't lose one ball in the air, lescott was suberb also. Arteta deserves a special mention also, thank god we have someone who can take people on, he was behind everything good we did in this game. Beatie should have been brought on as soon as the 3rd goal went in, he needs to get some confidence. All in all the scoreline flatterd us but we deserved to win no doubt. We're pushing for Europe again now and with Portsmouth playing Tottenham in a 6 pointer on monday we're in a decent position.
  12. We are due for a bumper £27 million TV payout next year and the following 2 years. The problem is all the other teams will receive it also and invest a lot more on top of that. The only advantage it will give us is over the promoted Championship sides. Kenwright will no doubt come out in the press and say we are financially stable and what a good job Moyes is doing while the likes of West Ham and Villa push for top 6.
  13. Despite his old promise of 'stepping aside for an investor' who could take Everton to the next level, Kenwright is never going to let go of the club unless there's an unequivacle fans revolt. He's a dreamer and thinks that somehow Moyes can work magic with no money. Look at the Shrek sale, that's the money we've been using to 'build' up the squad since. Kenright hasn't invested a thing for years apart from a vested interest in keeping complete control over his ego trip - efc. With the Shrek money gone it won't be until we are struggling down the bottom that Kenright will start taking serious heat again and rightfully so, Moyes is just buying him time.
  14. is the Man U game being shown on Sopcast tonight? It's listed for 8 pm
  15. Teflons starting defo start saying your prayers. <_<
  16. Hes miles better than Naysmith or Pistone, freak goal combined with Yobo's error.
  17. Not forgetting moyes is still one of the youngest managers in the Premiership after Boothroyd. It's not really fair to compair him to managers with 10-20 years more experience.
  18. That'd be nice but I don't think they'll be doing the stadium rotation on England games once they finally open up the new Wembley? I personally think 60,000 is too much atm. we'd struggle to fill it. I'd go with 50k with room to expand in the future. There's nothin worse for atmosphere than a half full stadium, the intimidation factor is gone and you hand away the home advantage.
  19. Far too many long/direct balls for my liking, some players do it without even looking for the short ball.
  20. I try not mix sentimentality with reason when it comes to opinions of squad selection. That said I would like him to be a success at 6"1 and decent in the air he is a good foil for AJ's pace and precision. It does not make any financial sense to offload Beattie now when we know he is better than he has shown this season.
  21. Nobody would pay anywhere near the 6.5 million we did for Beattie as it stands. We'd lose a hell of a lot of money and not be able to afford a replacement. It's not like we have an abundance of experienced strikers at the moment and the shite that is McFadden with his 10 goals in 100 Everton appearances isn't going to fill a secondary striker role..ever. We have to stand by Beattie this season and hope he reclaims the form he hit in his Southamton days.
  22. You can't accuse Poll of pandering to the larger teams but he definately likes to make himself the centre of attention. Maybe he's trying to reassert himself after all the critisism. I can't think of anyone being given a straight red simply for verbal abuse even when Keane or Rooney was screaming "fucking wanker" in his face. That said McFadden doesn't really need to give it out it's not part of his game and with his abysmal record in a blue shirt he shouldn't be putting his tantrums ahead of the team. I can't stand the prick tbh and if it means Anichebe or Vaughn getting a chance then it's a bonus. That's two piss poor refereeing decisions in two matches which have cost us the game we must be due some love, roll on Villa. Funnily enough, I remember Poll saying in an interview a few months ago he doesnt mind swearing and abuse from footballers during a match, its expected - he just gives it back to them. It was direct quotes in a few of the nationals as well not some Sun jackanory. Now this...definately a bruised ego I think and his is bigger than any other ref in the Premiership lets be honest.
  23. Gregg never give a shit about the club it was always about the SFX stadium deal and then getting his money back. Good Riddance.
