    No not really.

Every player gets critics. No problem. Buts it's all the arrogant stuff, too big for his boots, wants to move etc.

It's the same as last year with Lukaku (for you personally, it follows the same pattern...you criticise, make an assumption on personality, refer to another player in a 'if it was...' scenario, then refer to your own playing days as if this actually backs it all up!!!)

He makes a mistake, fair enough. But then gets a barrage for it. The criticism isn't balanced in my view.

He's a defender who is amongst the top in the league for full on blocks made...as in throwing himself in to block shots...but no, he's arrogant and thinks he's too big for the club?! I wonder how many of his mistakes have lead to a goal and how many of his blocks have stopped a goal?

I'm not trying to argue. I just think some of you guys tend to hone in on one player and rag the shit out of it.

Each to their own I guess.

Moyes would have got slated for a defencive 0-0 at City ! Thing is after draws at the likes of Bournmouth and Norwich it was probably a good point.

Those who are saying we were defensive - did they actually watch the game???

we set up to get at them but they are a top team who really clicked in the second half, we were as good as i've seen us in the first half.

Goalkeepers thrive on confidence, Robles looks pretty good at the moment, given a decent run could be just what he needs to show his real class.Takes a brave manager to give 2nd goalkeepers a long run.Take a look at liverpool, Bogdan, drop him or give him a run(I say play him the rest of the season) A rs fan at work didn't even give him the benefit of getting a nudge for the goal from the corner kick......just wants him out!

Probably the worst position in the team for making a mistake, you can make loads as an outfield player, one between the sticks and you are shite!

Strikers face it also....one bounce of your shin and your usless, some like Ross can have a stinker and will start the next game (same goes for a lot of out field players).

What would happen if Robles makes a mistake and we go out to City in the cup, would the fans calling for him to play more often, feel the same about him them.

Every goalkeeper has mistakes in him, fact.

Thing is as we enter the 2nd half of the season and in both cups, do you want the only back up to Lukaku to be Kone ! if we don't get a striker, that's the frightening thought.

Didn't people watch what Lukaku did at WBA ?.....haven't people asked why Chelsea bought him in the first place, why West Ham wanted him, liverpool were interested in him, why Everton took him on loan, why Everton eventually bought him......why now he's worth probably £50million ?

It's because the lad 'HAD' talent !
All the transactions above happened 'before' his 'terrible' season. It was written all over the lad that he was going to be huge.So he had an off season at 21 whilst playing in a below average team playing crap football. So what, Barkley still falls to pieces at times,Stones still makes mistakes, IT HAPPENS !

Some don't like the fact that others saw what he had. Most of us that 'did' see the potential were probably the same ones who were shouting Martinez down for his awful tactics last season at the same time seeing an under performing Lukaku.I wasn't surprised he and others were suffering, the tactics at times were awfull.None of our great young players advanced much last season.

You could see the class Barkley had at a young age, he's had some pretty poor runs over time, made some very bad mistakes, I partly blame the coaching system at Everton for not bringing him on more, this lad should be winning games single handed.

To me Lukaku is like Barkley and Stones, they've got mistakes and bad games in them, but more importantly huge amounts of talent.

Their talent was spotted years ago, anyone who would let potential like that leave the club for a poor run of games.........probably has shit for brains, just saying

Your missing the point, quotes/stats aren't really relevant, the main question posed was......... Did Lukaku have the required talent to become a major force as a striker. Some said he did, some thought not, simple as that, Lukaku was one of many poor players in a Blue shirt, some could see through his poor form, some couldn't ! A poor run of form means nothing if you have talent.

I've got to say of all the players we've sold in the last ten years I think he will go on to be the best of the lot. Class player and young and strong. Nose for goal and a good citizen off the field. If we hold onto him for another season he could be massive.

    How am I talking shite?

Are you denying that you said he would never develop as a player?

Are you denying saying that he could never improve his touch?

Are you denying saying that he was just a finisher and had nothing else to his game?

Nobody has said he has always been great but a lot of people recognised his potential to be a great player. You on the other hand said we would never get our money back on him and that we should have gone for Bony

You got this one wrong get over it

You also said that he only stood out as a teenager due to his physicality and that he was just a finisher and would never develop as a player .you also never seemed to acknowledge the amount of assists he gets or the goals he is directly involved in
You had him all wrong on so many different levels it was untrue

    Spot on !

I also think this thread has been going so long the more personal comments made against the lad have been buried in time.
Not a huge fan of Martinez, but he certainly got this signing right, should he get major credit ? seems many clubs had
spotted his potential, so maybe he was just lucky in getting him.End of the day doesn't matter, he's ours, question now is how long for.If Martinez manages to keep him (I think we can replace Stones more easily than Lukaku), then I will rate him (Martinez)more.

Lukaku is what most thought he'd be, a massive talent, to others, just a case of egg dribbling off a red face !

im not sayin its goin to be easy, but this season we've corrected the boring bullshit play of last season, we just need to tighten up. As frustrating as this season has been at times we've improved massively. There's progress, it's just annoying to suffer through.

One win every three games says it all. Martinez talked about making us a Champions League side when he came here. His win record the last season and a half is the kind of form that has you looking over your shoulder at relegation.

I've got two points. One, Martinez has assembled a young, vibrant, exciting squad, he has them playing attractive football and has earned us a lot of admirers. He deserves credit for that. But unless he can add a bit of steel and nous, unless he can get this young, exciting side winning, the best players he has at his disposal will leave and we will be looking at a situation like the early 90s again when a very good squad fell apart before it had a chance to do anything.

Second, Martinez is five years behind the pace tactically. His mantra about possession just isn't true - teams have worked out how to counter tica-taca and are winning without bossing possession (look at Leicester). The most effective teams are playing a high energy pressing game in their own half and moving the ball with pace going forward. We lack bite and organisation at the back and look pedestrian with the ball. We have the players to switch style - Barry and McCarthy are perfect for squeezing space in front of the back four, and we have more than enough pace to play much more direct. All that is lacking is Martinez's unwillingness to evolve, underlined by his flat refusal to play two wingers.
