I hope so - he looks like someone who is not afraid to run at the opposition, albeit at a lower level, this is what we seriously lack. I hope it’s not coached out of him here as Gray and Gordon both have this quality but haven’t seemed to back themselves of late - maybe it’s confidence, maybe it’s tactical - whatever it is, it makes us so easy to defend against and completely lacklustre in attack.

I don’t want rid of Lampard - the problem is much deeper than him and his team. If Pochetino or Tuchel were guaranteed replacements then I’d change my opinion but they won’t be coming here so Lampard’s got my backing. What I will say is Martinez at 33-1 and Moyes at 14-1… wouldn’t surprise me with Kenwright/Moshiri.

I think the football Lampard would like us to play will suit him but we’re nowhere near that at the moment and he looks ineffective and low in confidence.

He should be getting minutes at us in this current squad. If we can’t get another striker (and 2 wingers) in during Jan then recalling him should be a priority as it doesn’t look like Calvert-Lewin is going to be fit enough to rely on consistently, Rondon’s surely off and Maupay is a completely different option (sadly not a great one based on recent performances).

Both would improve us massively but we can’t be going down the £30-50m for no resale… if we’re getting older/established on big contracts it’s got to be out of contract or low/low price. Zaha’s out of contract in the summer - he’s not coming here but he’d be perfect in my opinion - would start every week. Gakpo will be an interesting one - loads of interest from mid-lower premier league teams in the summer and seems to have kicked on this season.

We need 2 wingers/advanced forwards/wide attackers… whatever they’re called and both need to be able to run at players. Gordon/Gray/McNeil - all decent players but not really consistent game changers - all show flashes and all are good options but we’re crying out for someone who can consistently put the opposition on the back foot and isn’t afraid to do so… a Saint Maximin or Rafinha type - we’re not getting either but there must be the next rough diamond out there somewhere… I do feel Kudus was a player in this mould and sadly that ship has probably sailed.

Our wide options are Gray, Gordon and McNeil - beyond throwing Mills or another from the academy, I’m stumped… definitely the next issue to address in the next 2 windows - a decent loan (to buy) in Jan would be a bonus.

I wouldn’t mind seeing this when Patterson is back… Pickford Patterson Coady Tarkowski Mykolenko Gueye or Doucoure Garner Onana Iwobi Calvert-Lewin Maupay Gray/Gordon to come on vs tired legs. Even though each have got a couple of important goals I don’t think either offer a constant threat - both have been far too easy to defend against recently. We’re pretty solid now (although we do ride our luck!) but completely toothless. Patterson is a big miss as he improves in at both ends of the pitch in my opinion.
