I think we need to stick with the back 3/5 - it seems to suit the players we have. We’re not blessed with expansive/ consistent wingers and look so easy to defend against in a 433, 4231, 4321 or whatever it is… Look at Chelsea under Tuchel - 3/5 at the back - sometimes Hudson-Odoi at wing-back when they need to be more attacking. We’re nowhere near Chelsea in terms of quality but why not have Gordon (or Iwobi when fit) at RWB in games we want to be on the front foot? We’d still be ‘solid’ with the 3 and Mykolenko and midfield cover. Same can be said for McNeill as LWB as long as it’s Coleman on the right. Stick to a system - make it simple - I genuinely think it’s our best bet.

Gray - constant threat.

I can’t recall us bringing players back after they’ve done well at the loan club but it’s happened a lot where players aren’t getting enough game time. I think this makes a lot of sense - he’s essentially taking Rondon’s bench slot and is much further on than Cannon having scored in League 1, Scotland and now the Championship- better than 1 in 3 in all and only 21 (22 next week) - definitely worth a look and if he can’t show anything, I’d guess there’ll be a few clubs in the Championship willing to pay a decent(ish) price.

Godfrey probably did the most important acts of the game by getting inside Haaland’s head - without this, I don’t think we get the point… …but, Gueye was excellent in a footballing sense so pips Godfrey and Gray (for obvious reasons) to MOTM.

I think Patterson was to blame for the 1st goal too… I really like him as a player but think he’s very naive in some aspects of his play. Great potential but a lot to work on.

I’d say players look ‘shackled’ bar Iwobi. Onana is the most obvious example - I was so excited after his cameo at Villa when he’d just signed - rough diamond but going on marauding runs and creating opportunities as a result - he’s been a crab the last few games either side of the break. Gordon and McNeil too - they almost look over coached. I know we’re shit but let Onana/Gordon have the odd run - let McNeil shoot on sight - it’s all too painfully predictable and boring and easy to defend!

Mina is a liability fitness wise but, on the rare occasions he’s on the pitch, he’s consistently one of our best. Did a job on Costa - both seemed to enjoy the battle. Gana was the only other worth a mention in my opinion - I agree, Onana should have come off ahead of him and we’d probably have one point extra today.
