No comment on the little Spaniard which surprises me.

Thought he made a real difference when he came on, though obviously we changed our formation a bit when he did with Mirallas going central and Barkley dropping back a bit but he played with a real purpose looking to drive forward at every opportunity and always thinking with an eye for the goal.

The one negative is he needs to look up and play the pass more often, a couple of times he got through very well down the right but tried to get a dinked shot in rather than look to pull it back.

His one on one miss was really disapointing and i was sure he was going to finish it Messi style with a lovely chip over the keeper but his attempt in the end was poor. The run and the pass were perfect and he ran on with it looking fully confident, shame but it didn't seem affect him afterwards.

I'd say he should definitely start on Saturday and wouldn't mind seeing similar to how we finished that game with Mirrallas behind Lukaku, Piennar and Deulofeu on the wings and McCarthy and Barkley in the middle. Barry will likely play left back but if he doesn' then that would change things a bit!

After Mirralas poor performance against Spurs Deulofeu should have been straight in against Palace. That was the game if any that he should have been giving him an opportunity to start.

While he's not done anything special in his small appearances so far he's shown he can run at people, is eager to impress and is likely to create things with his positive play.

I didn't see how he played when he came on against Palace but I do think that it would have been a good game for him to start, giving him the opportunity to go out and prove himself from the start.

I'd be surprised if he got to start against Liverpool and would be less surprised if Martinez went with Naismith. While Naismith isn't too well thought of he can be handy in tough games where he gets stuck in and he also has a knack for getting himself in the box which not enough player seem to do for us.

With jelavic watching from the sidelines while Lukaku bangs the goals in?

we've not lost in 11 games against West Ham and have won 4 of our last 6 at Upton Park.

    2-0 win or maybe 2-1.

Lukaku and Mirallas to get the goals.

Signed a pro deal at 18 today. A Centre back that's played a bit of Under 19 for England.

Anyone seen anything of him or know much of him, much of a prospect?

Seems smart lad, picking up 10 A* GCSE's! Rare enough from a footballer especially the amount of time they spend training as well, gives himself decent options if things don't work out.

FairWooney got a reaction from Matt in Martinez confirmed as new manager
on the 3 man defence concept, I liked the 3 (or rather 5) man defence set up that Moyes did for a couple of games while Fellaini was out that many had suggested previously. I definitely wouldn't go with 3 defenders and not have some kind of full backs to provide support.

    GK
    CB CB CB
    WB WB
    MF MF
    AM
    F F

Baines and Coleman fit the attacking wing back roles perfectly and the extra defender gives them a bit more license to get forward.

The 2 Midfield roles at the moment would be taken by 2 of Fellaini, Gibson and Osman.

The attacking roles taken by Mirallas, Pienaar, Jelavic, Barkley and Anichebe

Centre back wise Jagielka is a definite as at the moment is Distin while I expect Heitinga to probably leave and be replaced, weather Duffy is up to stepping up at the moment as well I don't know but obviously we could do with a 4th capable Centre back.

i like this formation, it utilieses the attacking attirbues of our full backs well while ensuring they are well protected, provides decent cover in the middle of the park and has plenty of attacking players able to roam around.

FairWooney got a reaction from Droobie in Did Moyes use Everton?
sure if he had stayed for 1 contract term in order to get a bit of premiership experience prior to taking on Man Utd then yes i'd say he was using us, the same I guess as an explayer (new manager) might manage a lower league club before attempting to take on a Premiership role.

Had he done that and left us in a better state I wouldn't have grumbled too much.

As it is he's been with us for 11 years, that's a long time to be in a job, he's not simply been sat around waiting for his call from Old Trafford. He's been living and breathing Everton as much if not more than pretty much anyone. he's shown all the passion and desire to succeed that you'd hope from a manager and largely he's done a good job.

FairWooney got a reaction from Quinn31 in Did Moyes use Everton?
    no.

At the time when Moyes took the Everton job he had no Premiership experience and would not have been considered for top job at Utd.

Sure he could have been assistant and you could say he used as to gain the experience prior to getting the job at Utd but you could say that of anyone, player or manager who moves on to a bigger club.

He took us away from dark days of relegation threat and into the top half of the season, maybe he always had his sights on taking on the Man utd job but I have no doubt that he gave everything he could for us and in doing so made us a more stable side with a much much better squad of players than those that he took on.

Why have we been "degraded" exactly?

rather than being talked down as relegation candidates we have become a team who are "punching above our weight" and can praise from most people in football for how we have done ever since Moyes has been in charge.

"What no one has seen is that most football clubs run at a loss"

Sorry but everyone is aware of this.

Man Utd are a completely different force. Like Apple, Sony and McDonalds they are one of the worlds top brands and will always make profits, despite their massive payments in interest. They are paying off their debts at a reasonable rate as they continue to keep making massive amounts of money, not just from the stadium (which does make them a hell of a lot) but from the massive sponsorship deals they have as well as every other area possible!

can you explain why Everton in their plans for a new stadium have never thought to go and get a loan from the bank to do so and have always said that they are not able to get the money to build a new stadium without some form of benefactor (be it business interest or individual/private) coming along to help?

no one, but no one disagrees that we need to get a new stadium.

What you've written regarding use of transport links makes a lot of sense and sounds realistic, everything sounds great.

    BUT

While i'm not claiming to be any kind of financial expert I DO NOT believe that any bank will be dishing us up all or a majority of cash required to purchase land and build a new stadium.

On the Arsenal comparison, one of the important things that we lack is a real asset which they had in Highbury. They were able to turn that land into apartments, even keeping the HIghbury turf as gardens to bring in cash from some fans keen to live on a bit of the clubs history! These were sold for huge amounts and a quick looks shows one for sale now, a 1 bedroom appartment for £430,000 and they were able to build 650 apartments. The area Goodison Park is in you could buy about 8 or 9 2 bedroom terraced houses for the price of one of those apartments!

The risk to the bank is that the club get relegated prior a new ground being completed and it is obviously one of the main factors that would stop them dishing out even more money to a loss making football club.

    John,

you've put up a well written case, very well written in fact (do you run a train line engineering company?!).

I don't think anyone disagree's that we need a new stadium and the negative comments received generally aren't completely disagreeing with what you're saying.

But unless you've been living in a bunker for the last 10 years Everton have looked at serveral sites, they have looked at different ways of financing a new stadium and have spoken to the council regarding potential moves. All have so far drawn a blank.

That's not to say there is no way we can finance and find a suitable site for a new ground but what I would say is if you believe you have a grand plan for this then maybe you should be presenting it some people of importance at Everton.

As has been stated before we have loans in the region of £49million right now, we only payed off £0.9 million in the last year while paying a further £4million in interest. While Barclays are happy enough for us to have this loan as they know that we are in a position to keep paying as long as Premiership money comes in and of course we give them massive amounts of interest. Would they hand us another 50millon + in order to build a new stadium? NO THEY WOULD NOT! The reason they would not is because if things went tits up we do not have the assets to repay a further loan of such an amount. This is why we used Tesco's in the Kirkby deal and why we haven't been publicly in any major rush to find and get building a stadium.

I don't disagree with anything you say regarding building a new stadium and the lucractive profits' that can be made because of it and that it can take the club forward. Unfortunately it takes some creative work with a big profitable company such as Tesco's or a very generous rich loanee to take a risk on us.

    We don't need him.

Does he not play as an attacking midfield player?

Morrilas and Naismith have that sewn up.

Dempsey is a great player but i'm appalled by his attitude at the moment and would be happy to see him rotting away on strike at Fulham for the next few months.

I hope RS don't get him.
