  1. https://www.goodisonnews.com/2023/01/06/everton-seriously-pushing-to-sign-blackburn-rovers-striker-ben-brereton-diaz/ I think we missed the opportunity with BBD in the summer. Given how high Blackburn are in the Championship, he is now Blackburn's best chance of getting Premiership football next season. As a Blackburn fan you would do your nut if the club let him go when you are sitting third in the Championship at the half way point of the season. I would really like him here, but think we have missed the boat.
  2. whatever we do now is a gamble - as shit as it sounds, from a financial point of view we also now have one eye on being in the Championship next season when it comes to player salaries who we bring in - I am guessing this lad will be much much cheaper than the likes of Ings, and thus retainable. When it comes to permanent signings, we have to shop for what are hopefully going keep us in the Premier league, but we could afford to keep if we do get relegated. The club simply has to have one eye on this now, as unpalatable as it sounds.
  3. But yet another switch in footballing philosophy, we may as well bringing fat Sam back. His results where ok ish (in hindsight to what we have witnessed since), but the footballer really sucked.
  4. also in the next month or so - Moyes or even Graham Potter might be out of a job.
  5. Not sure what more you get with an inexperienced Rooney to a Lampard. Would really like to see Rooney cutting his teeth proper as a manager before he has his time with us. Maybe one of Lampard's problems is his inexperience as a manager working with this squad. We could ruin Rooney as a potential future Everton manager, by giving him this poor squad to manage. For me it not his time yet. Experienced managers have struggles to do much with it. Ferguson is not a option - he's never managed. Martinez - no no no. Did nothing with an amazing Belgium squad, how he stayed in that job for so long is a mystery to me. What we are going to now have to navigate this second half of the season - Lampard and most of the players have been through it once. I think we all know Frank can and if needed will adopt different tactic to shore us up and play on the backfoot (even if he doesn't really want to) and grind out results. Do we think these other candidates are a better option to navigate the waters ahead. I am not so confident.
  6. It a transfer that simply highlights the predicament we are in. Its simply a firefighting or sticking plaster transfer that might be what is needed to give us a better chance of staying up. We don't have the luxury of just going for talented youngsters his window. We need somebody who is Premiership proven, will nick some goals and get us some points. Don't need to win every game as we are not at the business end of the table - its about scrapping out the bare minimum that keep us in the Premiership in this transfer window. A 3-4 Danny Ings goals might mean a additional 4-6 points, which could easily mean the difference between staying up or going down. A fit Danny Ings does make us a better team squad, and to me he is the type of player you would be happy having in your corner in a dog fight. The massive question will be can he stay fit. A big element of the summers recruitment was bring in people who don't have a tendency of sitting on the treatment table (which I applauded and am behind), so this transfer, especially, if we are forced in to permanent deal, just shows the limitations of the reality of our limited ability in the market - idealistic transfer strategies will have to be compromised. I feel so sorry for the tools Lampard and Thelwall have to work with - everything they do transfer wise has to be a compromise at the moment, we have desperate needs but are currently the 'paupers' of the premier league in what we can actually spend. This is currently the toughest Premiership club to manage by some way.
  7. Yeah, we have half a season to try and play football, its just not worked with the players we currently had available, so its time to tighten right up and grind out results. The Brighton game should have been primary about not getting beat and building confidence on the back the Man City performance. Teams are currently look at us an easy meal.
  8. This team is capable of playing counter attacking, snatch and grab football, Frank Lamaprd is capable of putting a team on the pitch that can effectively play that type of football. So to this effect I don't see the point in hiring a Alladayce/Dyche type to do this and totally start from scratch with a new backroom staff again. I also don't see the point in bringing a coach that wants to play with the ball, As the squad is not good enough. As managers (with better player at their disposal) have found out.
  9. I think Frank has the ability set us up to get better short term results. A bit like last season - it not working trying to play football the way he wants (because the players are not of sufficient quality), then revert to more defensive and counter attacking style and grind out the points. I really think the Brighton game was the game to start doing this, if only to get some breathing room until the end of the January transfer window - after a poor run, its points that really matter at this moment in time. The pursuit of nice or front foot football can wait until we have the players (and maybe the confidence) to do this.
  10. we don't have enough success for any sort of succession planning
  11. but the problem being we are now very much spent up - and are thus one of the weakest teams financially in the league.
  12. We just don't have the player to try and 'play' football. As sad as it it we need to play like we did against Man City home and away and against every team and try and nick the occasional 1-0. I thought Frank might of gone three at the back again tonight, be solid first and foremost to make sure we don't lose, and hopefully take any chances that came our way. Basically build on that solid City result and just slowly build confidence back in to the squad. I wouldn't have criticized a cautious approach for the next few games. We are simply not a good enough premiership side to take the game to other teams - only a few teams can actually do this and we really are not one of them. We don't have either the time or resources to do this.
  13. This seems to have become the Everton way in this Moshiri period - a function of giving very average (at best) players on massive contract that they would never see anywhere else - who then simply freewheel for 4 or 5 years. You will never cut this out completely as every transfer has an element of risk. But it now has to become the exception rather than the norm.
  14. It will be interesting how he sets up - especially with Godfrey now also available, making the potential use of a back three a more viable option. DCL and Grey as a front two, with the width coming from the backs. Giving some options of the bench. If I was in Lampard shoes - do not lose this game (or next few league games) will be foremost in my mind.
  15. And what we want to be seeing is Ducoure stake a claim to be a first team starter. What our problem has been for many a season now is that there has not been any real competition for places to get in to the first team. Players need to be taking advantage when they get a chance to start games.
  16. It's hard enough for some player to come to a new environment and club and hit the ground running, even when you go in to a settled side. Everton are as far away from a settled side as you could get. On top of all the summer signing, throw both Patterson and Mykolenko in to the mix, along with Lampard and Thelwell as relative newbies to this club. Then is is bound to take some time for everything to 'come together' on the pitch in a consistent manner. It's going to take this season to try and get any sort of stability in first first time. This club has had some major surgery and not a sticking plaster. It take time to recover. Thelwell, and ALL the summers signings can only really be judges when this side settles a bit more.
  17. I don't have a particular problem selling Holgate if price was right. However, I am not overly keen on selling any player to any club in January who look like they might also be in the mix for a relegation fight this year.
  18. I am with you 100%. 'patience' seems to be what everybody was call in for at the beginning of the season, but a lot are losing it very very quickly, and I think you are right a lot are being guided and whipped up by lazy media and second rate pundits, who simply look at last few results and league position to chose which managers turn it is to be putting under more pressure by righting uneducated crap about.
  19. I don't think anybody is saying it would be a good thing to go down or that they want us to go down. My own comment is that we have been and are currently a decent championship level/poor Premier league squad, and we are fucking struggling to even catch a breath in the Premier league, never mind improve - because the level is so difficult. All I am saying is, it's easier to develop a footballing style if you in a league in which you would be a team dominating possession with the best quality player in said league. I think relegation would be a disaster, just like everybody else. And would rather see us slowly claw away back up the league. But I am under no illusion, that climbing the Premiership is now more difficult than ever before as all the teams outside the top 6 are very even now financially.
  20. there really is a lack of any sort of patience with new players and a new team trying to develop together. Progress is not going to be a steady always upward curve over a dozen or so games. There have been some improved performances and there have been some poor performances. What you hope to see is a steading increase in good performance and decrease in the poor performances. The nature of a rebuild it you are going to get more bad than good at the beginning. This is going to be both for individuals and team performances. The scary part is that the Premiership, now more than every, is very unforgiving to teams in a rebuild phase, especially when you are building off a very poor base. We just need to try and hold our nerve a bit, and not get panicked by a bad run of results and form.
  21. Maybe it's because he is very young, only been in new country a few months, only played a dozen or so Premiership games. It's a bit early to start ripping shreads off the boy for not dominating Premiership games for 90mins. We wanted raw, quality youth at club, but there is no point if we are not going to give them the time needed to develop.
  22. Lots of stories around of club being after Pickford. Spurs, United and Chelesa. I Think Pickford has been one of the few standout bits of transfer business over the past few year. The right quality at the right age. Not mad on the idea of losing him, the only deal for me would be some cash and Dean Henderson from Man U. Think Henderson would be a ready made replacement.
  23. I don't want relegation, but there is an element of truth that it may be slightly easier to build a team and playing style in a lower league. Bar the top 6 teams, there is now a cigarette paper between battling 7th and 8th or being in a relegation battle (just look at West Ham and Leiceter city, Newcastle and Fulham). We have a weak squad offensively with DCL and Richarlison no being available to Lampard, and our problem has been not scoring goals. The midfield is in a massive stage of transition, with our eggs is an Onana sized basket. Having just turned 21 this young lad needs a bit of time. Unfortunately Garner has taken a knock so not really got to see him, but he will also need a a bit time. The word 'patience' was pretty much used by every single one of us about Lampard managing at the club, but not even half way through a season lots of fans seem to have already lost them already. No manager has much of a chance at this club, if the fans lose 'patience' with him and any new young players he brings to the club (another thing lots of people have wanted to see happen) A fair period of time, with a couple or three windows is was is really needed.
  24. I don't think Onana looks shite. I think he is very very young and is far from the finished article and will take more than 10 or so games to become a premier league player. You don't get any sort of guarantee with any signings, but you have to have some faith that signing good young player will pay off in the long run - otherwise what is no point.
