 He's a fucking idiot with the bat, totally unreliable.

Either of the ones who have been playing recently while Ali couldn't be arsed with Test cricket. Total slap in the face for those two (Jacks and Ahmed) that they've been fucked off just because Ali fancied it again because it's the Ashes.

Could have even gone with Dawson if you wanted runs as well. I just really do not like how it all went down.

I would have gone with Ahmed. He's shown enough. Young, brave.

But doesn't it? This is a 5-day test match. Who in their right mind would declare on the very first day? It blows my mind. (Agreed that things always look different in hindsight, but I really really don't understand why a captain would do that for fewer than, say, 500 runs on a second day.)

Steve, I absolutely agree with you and said at the time.

We need to bat much better in the second innings for me. I feel like we left a lot of runs out there in the first innings.

I think it will be more difficult this innings. Australia will have spotted things. So will we. Hoping for another declaration and a 10 wicket 200 run win. 🙂

Yes, the heyday of West Indian cricket: Richards, Holding, Holder, Roberts. Some say it's urban legend, but, during one England vs. West Indies test, Brian Johnston is reputed to have said "the bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey".

    Regrettably apocryphal, I think.

Arrogance if you ask me. Seriously, I can't think of a single other possible reason.

It may be that, too, Steve. If England end up losing, I am sure you will remind us of this! 🙂

That said, arrogance is often a necessary adjunct of a successful team (been part of the Australian game for years).

Hopefully, if England win, you will commend the team for its self-belief, playing the Australians at their own game. 👍

You may wish to read the posts a bit more Formby. Not once have I questioned Gray's value per money spent nor lauded Maupay's.

I always read your posts! This thread is full of your negative comments about Gray. Not sure how you can deny that!

I feel like Gray's value is only going down. He was the main man for Benitez but has been crap since Lampard came in, showing all the frustrating traits he has shown throughout his career.

In terms of Maupay, lauding was perhaps a shade too far but you have certainly been more forgiving of him than Gray - which is odd considering their respective price tags.

Brighton play completely differently to us. Everything we might have liked about his performances for Brighton, were never going to be replicated at Everton.

At Brighton he needed a lot of chances to score the goals he did. He was never getting that here.
