  1. He brings it on himself though Avin. Not just here but throughout his career. I have seen plenty of players from South America not act like a twat and go down the routes Suarez has time and time again. Its got nothing to do with culture, it is just his personality and he deserves whatever he gets.
  2. Disgraceful behaviour! Hopefully he gets a lengthy ban.
  3. It was certainly very strange to say the least.
  4. He is a player that needs someone to create the chances for him and in that respect he is very much like Jelavic. We need someone who can do a lot more than that.
  5. I was thinking that as I wrote it actually! I think he is one peg worse than Howard in all of those departments though.
  6. I think Guzan looks better than he is due to the amount of saves he has to make. His decision making is erratic, he is poor under a high ball and whilst he is a good shot stopper I dont think he is that good in the grand scheme of things.
  7. Yeh I agree, although I would also add that he is much better defensively. For the right price he would be a very good signing.
  8. Even when he was being raved about last season he was making some pretty sizeable errors but they seemed to get overlooked. I think he has the attributes to be a top GK but he is a long way from starting for a Premiership team yet. Yeh I dont get the hype either. He has some skills and obviously the potential to improve but I dont see what tempted Utd to pay so much for him other than the fact he is English. The FA really need to look into the state of English football. We dont have enough enterprising young English managers or coaches and we don't have enough quality young English players coming through. Stuart Pearce should never have been kept on as England U21 manager after their performance in the last major competition where the players were running around like headless chickens. However is right to say that he should have had all of the top players available rather than them being wasted in friendlies with the senior squad, especially when you consider AOC played 30mins or something and Jones was played in midfield. Didnt Rodwell get called up as well? The FA obviously see the competition as a joke which is stupid because it should be seen as ideal preparation for the senior competitions. The scary thing is, of all of the available U21 players how many are actually good enough for the National team? AOC and Wilshere would be two. Jones will be a top CB in years to come providing he actually gets played in that position and Rodwell and possibly Chalambah might be good enough in midfield. Shaw will be a top LB but that leaves a huge gap to fill. Yes there are some younger ones coming through buts its going to be a struggle for a while unless the powers that be pull their finger out.
  9. I think he wouldnt find the same space if he started predominately through the centre plus that would put him against much stronger CB's and defensive midfielders. Start him on the wing and let him drift. I wouldnt disagree with that! Didnt know what to make of him in the game against Israel. Clearly has class and also seems to have a good attitude but I dont know quite where he would 'fit' in with us. Either way its irrelevant because he is well out of our price range!
  10. What about Demba Ba? I cant imagine Mourinho wanting to keep him and Chelsea may try and offload him on the cheap. Wages may be an issue though.
  11. Moses is a very good player IMO. I love the fact that he is very raw as its almost like a breath of fresh air.
  12. Just had a quick look through some of his stats and never realised he had played for PSV either! His goal scoring record throughout his career has been pretty consistent baring a spell at Seville.
  13. Wigan were a better team with him in the side and he was their best defender (doesnt say a massive amount I know). He is fairly quick, good technique on the ball and reads the game well.I think he was best playing through the centre of a 3 man defence. Fellaini is by far the better of the two defensively and he isnt a better passer in forward positions. Dont forget the stats will be skewed as Felli played off the striker for at least 50% of his games this season.
  14. Kone is 30!?! When the hell did he get so old! I thought he was low to mid 20's!
  15. Jesus Christ... I thought he would be £3-4mil max!
  16. I think he would be a sensible purchase but nothing more than that. Like Steve_E rightly mentioned in a different thread we need to try and find someone who can score 15-20 goals a season and while I do think Kone would be a better and more consistent option than Vic or Jela he is again a player that can only take you so far.
  17. I watched some of his goals from this video and the one Steve_E posted and while his finishing is excuisite you simply dont get chances like that in the Premier League. His movement is great though and with some space he could score lots of goals as he has shown, but on the basis of those videos I would be surprised if his overall game was suited to the style of this league.
  18. Really excited by this appointment. It wont be easy by any stretch but I definitely think he has it in him to take us forward. I dont know about anyone else but I almost feel embarrassed about Kenwright. Whenever he opens his mouth I just think 'ohh Goood' and cover my eyes. He is a passionate Evertonian but I fnid him very cringe worthy at times. I think he has done a good job though and I am glad that he has taken his time to get this right. I wont be holding my breath over the funding though!
  19. When looking at potential players who are coming in and out of the club you have to think about the type of player Martinez would want at the club. To start with, Howard's position will be in grave danger. He has been a good consistent performer for us but the errors are creeping in and importantly for how Martinez will want us to play, his distribution is really poor for a top flight keeper. If we want to keep the ball better we need a keeper who can use the ball properly. Al Habsi has been mentioned but considering Martinez preferred Joel ahead of him it suggests to me that Martinez may try and pluck him from Atletico. He made a couple of novicey errors (such as the one against Spurs, but he also made some brilliant saves. I doubt he would cost much more than 1-2mil. At the back Martinez will want to have at least 3 strong technically gifted and quick centre backs. They need to be quick in order to keep a high line and press the opposition. Given Heitinga's contract situation I think that will be the end of him. Im sure Jags will be integral to Martinez's plans even if his passing does go astray at times. I dont think he will want Distin to be starting too many games and Im not sure how will Duffy will fit into his plans unless he has found a yard of pace since I last saw him. I dont know much about Stones so therefore I think we will be shopping around for at least 1 but probably 2 centre backs this summer and they need to be quick, to read the game well and also be comfortable on the ball. I dont know too many that fit this bill but there will be some out there! The full backs look solid with Coleman and Hibbert on one side and Baines and Oviedo on the other. In midfield our realistic options are Osman, Pienaar, Fellaini, Gibson, Barkley. A lot of our transfer budget will depend on Felli leaving but I get the feeling that he wont. In my opinion Osman and Pienaar should 'role share' throughout the season (assuming we dont get plagues by injuries) because they are both past their best but also both more than capable of putting in big performances when they are needed. Ideally we dont want to be starting them in the same game too often. A midfield three of Fellaini, Gibson and Osman/Pienaar/Barkley would be perfect. I think that would be the best way to get the most out of the three players with the former two playing deeper and then one of the other three slightly advanced. Over the next 12-18 months we will need to bring in at least 2 or maybe even 3 players through. McCarthy is the ideal type of candidate for the deeper role but his price tag is probably too high now. The other player needs to be someone in the Eriksen mould who can make things happen. He is a player I admire but he also looks out of our price range. On the wings we only really have Mirallas and potentially Kennedy. Osman & Pienaar can do a job, especially the latter but you get the best out of them in the middle of the pitch. Yet again we really need to strengthen in this area and depending on who comes into the heart of midfield we would probably need one or two purchases/loans. Im not a fan of Sinclair but at a certain price he could do that job. Wages may be an issue but he has a certain amount of talent and at the very least we should be able to get a ecomically viable loan to buy deal out of it. I have said it before somewhere else, but now Martinez is in N'Zogbia could also be a good purchase for a small fee. He has plenty of talent but Martinez is the only one who has really been able to get that out of him. Moses may even be on the agenda. Chelsea fans dont seem to think he is good enough for them but I think he is a class act who again came to prominence under Martinez at Wigan. He may not be in Mourinho's plans and if not we should be able to get a knock down fee. The big headache comes up front. I think we will play with one main striker and while I think Jelavic has it in him to score goals at the top level consistently, his showing this season simply hasnt been good enough. Vic works hard but we cant rely on him to get us into Europe and whilst the likes of Vellios and McAlaney have shown promise we don't really know how good they are and if we can rely on them. I wouldnt be disappointed if we got rid of both our main strikers this summer if we got 5-6mil for each. I cant see them both going but unless one of them improves dramatically in the next 12months I cant see them being here for the start of next season (2014-15). Its hard to assess who can come in but we need a player who has good close control, can hold the ball up to bring other into play as well as some pace and strength. Benteke and Lukaku would probably top most people's lists but they will probably be too expensive although depending on Mourinho's plans at Chelsea, we may be able to get the latter on loan. Kone wouldnt be a bad buy at all, he has all the attributes I mentioned plus he can is also quite creative whether it be picking a pass or taking a shot on. Altidore looked like he had matured a lot recently based on a lot of what I have read about him and again he may not be a bad purchase for a relatively modest fee. Whatever happens this summer I am filled with excitement rather than the normal dread!
  20. I like those kits. Will be interested to see how they look when they are on. I also think the NSNO on the collar is a nice touch.
  21. Yeh good point. I guess it depends on whether it has an impact on wages too.
  22. I dont think we would have the funds for all of them. Lescott would fit the bill but he isnt young anymore and it would be price (and wage) dependent. McCarthy is going to cost a lot of money I think, but as he showed for Ireland yesterday he is a top player. I think there will be better players than McManaman available for the likely price and Lukaku is just a big fat yes
  23. Back to your earlier post I agree with the positions you highlight. With Jelavic, these are some interesting stats. I dont think has brought others (and therefore himself) into the game as much this season and that's where the problem lies. I do think a striker is a priority and while I would get rid of Vic in the other thread (based on his potential return compared to actual worth at the moment) I would agree that one of them should be moved on, especially if we are able to recoup Jela's fee, although Im not convinced that we would be able to.
