  1. Now that Paulinho has been confirmed as a signing for Spurs does anyone think we could get one of their players in fairly cheaply? They have Dempsey, Huddleston, Lennon, Parker, Dembele, Sigurdson, Holtby, Livermore, Sandro, Townsend and now Paulinho who are all vying for 4 or 5 spots. Looking at that list, I dont think I would want any of the fringe players and the ones like Sandro, Dembele & Sigurdson dont look like they will be leaving anytime soon.
  2. Preferably. I couldn't agree with you more. I don't think Felli played in his 'best' position all season and the closest he came was probably in the 2nd half of the City game where him and Gibson were excellent.
  3. I would rather just have £25-30mil and let Arsenal keep Ramsey.
  4. I think that if we sign Kone then Jelavic might be out of the doorand if so that might free up some room for another younger striker to come in. The straight swap for Alcaraz and Heits makes sense and hopefully this could free up some wages for the Honda style player that we need. I cant see ua paying much for a reserve keeper and he may just be a season long loan job until someone becomes available.
  5. But he still had a good record at every other club who were in the top flight of their respective leagues, including Levante who are in the same league as Sevilla. You have picked the anomoly as opposed to the general trend. Damn cherry picker! :shaking fist: I also dont see that there would be a difference if Moyes was here or not and I dont think Haf would either in fairness to him. Finally a well made balanced negative argument. It is definitely a concern but these one or two players might be the only oldies we get. If we got rid of Jela and brought in a 18-19yo kid with potential then would have lowered the average age. Similarly if swapping Alcaraz and Heitinga wont affect this either. Martinez has already said he wants to lower the age of the squad but if there is a player who is 28-29 who can make an instant impact in the first team who is relatively cheap and wants to come here, we should pass up on that opportunity. Kone definitely has the ability to do well here based on what I saw last season, and while I wont be rushing to get his name on the back of my shirt, you can understand exactly why Martinez has made the decision to bring him in. Exactly!
  6. Exactly. It doesnt make financial sense but he could be a very good buy. Our creativity hasnt been great but Jela doesnt create anything for himself of his team mates and whilst Vic can do both, I just dont think he is good enough to be the number 1 striker. Put it this way both Vic & Kone will probably be valued at the same amount and whilst Vic is younger I dont see him improving upon what he did last year and he simply isnt as good as Kone. Anyway back to Dyer, Id rather spend 2mil on Redmond than 5mil on him.
  7. Did I say premiership? Nope I said top flight, like he was in the other leagues he has played in.
  8. I also dont think he would be the type of player Martinez would want at Everton.
  9. You would rather spend £5mil on someone as crap as Dyer than a proven top flight goalscorer? I wouldnt give you £5 for Dyer. Very very average.
  10. I think the Beckford comment is based on how much we sold him for.
  11. I dont know how much either of you watched of Wigan and Kone but he also creates a lot of chances with his movement and his ability to link the play with his team mates. When you add that to the fact that he has a consistent goal scoring record throughout his career including in his first season in the Premiership where he was looking better as the season went on, unlike most one his wonders who score the majority of their goals in the first 6 months. I queried this before on here and it was because he was coming back from a severe injury (or 2!?) and mainly played as a sub behind a couple of other top strikers. He has scored consistently at every other club he has been at but dont worry about looking at the whole picture, just highlight the one stat that makes him look shit! You should be an MP. Kone is better than you think Ten. He is a very good all round player and more importantly for my and probably Martinez' point of view is that he will bring out the best in the team. The business side of the deal is poor but if he scores and creates goals then he could be far more valuable to us then 5mil. Well said.
  12. He always looked like a yes man to me and I have never really been a fan. I remember watching the clip where he pretty much mirrored all of Moyes' moves in the technical area.
  13. Exactly, two full seasons playing plenty of games in the process and yet he hasnt really stepped up to the level that was expected of him when he came on the scene. Vic was never given a run of games and its not unsurprising that when he was he improved for it. He just doesnt strike me as a player that has lots more improvement in him, especially not to be a top 6 club starter. As I have said previously, I have seen him in a few games and whilst I havent watched he full 90mins I dont see why there is quite this much hype. He has promise and he has talent, without doubt, but he is raw and he doesnt show much intelligence in the runs he makes or in his decisions on the ball which is what separates the top players from the average. He may beat his man, but its no good to anyone if he cant pick out the pass or finish the move and thats what I mean when I refer to his intelligence. Im not meaning to sound like I am writing him off, but I think £2mil is a lot for us to pay for someone who isnt good enough for the first team and has already played fairly regular football in the first team. If I was a Swansea/Villa fan whose owners have money to spend and can take the risk on such a player then I would say bring him in, but we have much bigger fish to fry and we have spent enough on young players who never see the first team and leave for peanuts.
  14. Because he wouldn't have played how we want him to. Bent is not a lone striker, he doesn't run channels and he doesn't bring others into play. He wouldn't have worked very well in our system and if he doesn't play or play well he moves on for peanuts not millions. I must admit I was thinking you meant his move from Sunderland to Villa for some reason and in his case I would say that a goal scorer proven in the PL (which he was) would have been worth that gamble. Don't forget this is 2005 and that price would be doubled at the very least had it been 2013. Redmond is a completely different kettle of fish. Yes he has talent, and yes 2mil would be a fair price in the current market but he hasn't really developed since he came onto the scene, he isn't an intelligent footballer and he isn't even one of the best players in the Championship and we shouldn't just be buying him because he is young, English and cheap.
  15. They seem to play 4-5-1 so not sure how it will work myself. I think it will hurt them in the long run if they have two quality players vynig for the one spot. One gets pissed, disrupts the dressing room and then it goes tits up. I hope so anyway!
  16. I dont know what you have been drinking but I want some! Haha
  17. His vision and timing of the pass are brilliant. Such a lethal combination too.
  18. My point is that no thought whatsoever has gone into it, apart from the 'oh lets make it different and put two stripes on the sleeve'. Ok maybe that specific part isnt in the current catalogues from what I have seen but thats it and I would bet that it features in next years! Lol... The GK kit style is In this years catalogue btw with those stupid sleeves!
  19. Its just straight from the Nike catalogue (or back catalogue). They may have chucked a couple of stripes on the sleeve. Not exactly much thought has gone into it.
  20. I will certainly be keeping my hands in my pocket on this occasion. I really dislike these standard designs that the big manufacturers use. We are an individual club and if the designers at Nike cant be bothered to come up with something original then they should be told to f*** off.
  21. I have seen him play in about a dozen games. Not all the way through in every game but i have never really seen much in him. He has scored a couple of good goals but his overall contribution hasnt been worth 500k let alone 2mil. When I say dumb I am referring to his footballing brain btw. He is the type of player that will find himself some space and completely piss that final ball up the wall. I dont think he has really improved since he came on the scene and I dont see him improving much now tbh. Bent would have been a waste of money for us because all he can do is finish when we need so much more albeit he is/was a very good finisher, Moses always had that touch of class about him despite his rawness and I havent seen enough of Powell to comment. I couldnt give a toss as to who he is linked with, afterall they signed Sinclair who is a better version but still a very average player in terms of premiership quality. Im all for signing young British talent but I simply dont think he is a talent and Id rather we used that money as part of another transfer for someone much better.
  22. Yeh the tweets I have seen suggest that all the main issues have been dodged and whatever they have tried to explain has little to no substance.
