marcus jones reacted in Martinez won't last the season
Didn't know where else to put this but it seems as good a place as any...

I'm gonna stick my neck on the line and say Martinez will do very well for you (I say 'you' rather than 'us' as I'm not an Everton fan). You're building a very good squad with talented players and he's brought in some decent lads. I have to laugh at the snobbery in English football at him bringing in some of his old Wigan players. Alcaraz is a very good defender who reads the game well. He was a mainstay of the Paraguay defence who performed so well at the 2010 World Cup and most of the following year's Copa America, but according to some in the media he's a poor signing. Right. The fact he's not a sexy name or eye-catching doesn't mean he's not a strong addition to your squad. Kone is no world beater but he has a decent ground game, is fast and will chip in with goals. I expect he and Jelavic to compete for the main striker role anyway so he probably won't be a regular. Robles is a talented young goalkeeper as well and a decent addition. I already talked about Deulofeu in his thread. You've did well with your additions.

I didn't want to say so at the time as an outsider giving his opinion didn't seem right (many of you were split betwen being pro-Moyes and anti-Moyes) but, to be honest, I was never a fan of Moyes. I think his abilities are overstated and exaggerated (I've covered this extensively elsewhere, but to sum it up succinctly, he isn't the miracle working pauper people say he is). He did a good job at Everton but he didn't perform miracles and, given time, Martinez can do a better job without question. I do think Martinez is potentially a better manager than Moyes. He certainly plays better football and has a much 'wider' view of football (i.e. he isn't an old-school Brit like Moyes). The only question is if he can make the step up from Wigan? I think he will but it's certainly not guaranteed. However, to reiterate, I'm prepared to make the prediction that he will and if I'm wrong I will admit it.

I expect Everton to play great football for the most part next season and finish top 7 at the very least. Start well and perform consistently throughout the season and a serious challenge for the CL is not out of the question, although that is probably asking too much in Martinez's first season.

marcus jones reacted to Louis in Everton-themed trains in New York City
As NBC bought the broadcast rights for the Premier League for a record fee, they are marketing the league like crazy at the moment.

There have been advertising hoardings in the city centre and NBC recently announced a marketing relationship with MTA. There is an Everton-themed train doing the rounds as we speak.

Love it or hate it, this is the free market at work. Put salary and transfer caps on place and all the good players will move to other leagues. If we want the EPL to be the best, we have to accept free market principles. If you don't like it, don't watch TV sports. That would stop the funding.

It's a bit like meeting a new bird at the bar and your mate asking if you had the choice, would you have her or your ex. At least wait to see if the bitch can cook a decent roast ffs.

He says he was offered a 3-year contract in May as well, there's no way Moyes has offered him a 3-year-deal when he wouldn't do the same for a trusted player in Distin and Martinez wasn't even appointed until early June. He's an attention whore. He was gonna earn double what he earns now for another 3 years, but he turned it down? Yeah, right!

marcus jones reacted to Cornish Steve in Nikica Jelavic
    - Jelavic gets upset when Kone is brought in
    - Jelavic wants to see RM to understand where he fits
    - Agent smells money and tells the media "Jelavic demands to know why he's not #1"
    - Agent calls one of two clubs previously interested
    - Hamburg duly oblige by returning his call and expressing interest
    - Agent tells Hamburg team that Everton is shopping around for buyers (whether true or not is immaterial)
    - Hamburg team repeat this story to the media, hoping to unsettle Jelavic and improve their chances of a good deal
    - Agent laughs all the way to the bank until Everton either do business or stomp on the suggestion

my fear of him leaving was based purely on remembering the 10 years before him, and his 10 years (when I was old enough to be more invested, despite moving abroad) in charge was all I really knew. It was a fear of the unknown. I was a Moyes fan, I still am in some respects because of what he did for us and I want to see him succeed, but above all Im an Everton fan.

marcus jones reacted to Romey 1878 in Stuart Broad should be ashamed of himself
It was working, the Aussies had just used up their challenges.

And, like hell he should be ashamed! The Aussies don't walk and have benefited many times themselves. I'm sure they didn't give shit the previous day when Agar hadn't made his ground but was judged not out. Did he walk once he'd seen the replay? No, he went on to smash 98. What goes around comes around. England have been on the end of shitty decisions and they will be again, like every team. It's sport. Get on with it.

marcus jones reacted to Steve_E in Jorginho
Why would that be difficult to believe? You think our scouts will just throw every scouting report they have made under Moyes in the bin? There's also no reports of Moyes ever moving for him btw. Just reports of Everton scouts watching him (not Moyes' scouts) from a couple of months ago, now there's reports of Everton (under manager Martinez) supposedly making an offer for him.

Our scouts will probably have a couple of names they like for each position in mind (at least they should) and while this guy may not have been a priority for Moyes, he might be for Martinez. I think it's possible Fer may have been the player Moyes liked best, the strong, athletic midfielder; while Martinez may prefer the midfielder with more technical ability, in this case Jorginho.

I couldn't read anything for fucking commercials.

And this is a Netherlands player. We usually only get Belgian news from you with everything from TinTin to this years best kept garden in Antwerp ?

I've never heard of his Strootman player before until today. Seems a good player, highly talked of, and a promising player, but we had that before with Van Der Meyde and look how that turned out. Manchester United were poised to make a swoop a month ago but nothing occured. It's a name that may be worth further inspection though.

marcus jones reacted to efc1111 in Steven Naismith debate
Martinez is surely going to want to meet Naismith and see the guy in training and in a couple of pre-season games up front in HIS system before he makes a decision on whether he sees a future for him at Goodison or not? Especially as Kone won't join up until later in the month so it's a chance maybe to play him up front and see how he gets on.

I doubt it's going to work out for Naismith with us, despite his undoubted workrate and enthusiasm, and he seems like a really decent guy too, but if RM decides this month that he wants to cash in on him then I feel sure there will still be clubs interested in him.

marcus jones reacted to Hafnia in Martinez V Moyes - transfers
Your ex wasn't that bad, she just wanted to go to the same old boring pub with the same old faces and the same music - she didn't want to try the new place down the road. She picked you up from being a bit wayward, but ultimately turned you a bit boring. People actually forgot that you were outgoing by nature, she even tried to dress you the way she wanted you to look.

Since you got dumped you've met a new woman who seems to have a new outlook on life, she's booking holidays abroad and wants to look good when you both go out. You seem to have more in common and she's introducing you to new friends.

Your ex left you for a rich bloke who will soon tire of her boring controlling ways, and she will likely end up living with one of your old mates.

He might assess the squad, realise he wants to keep Heitinga and feels there isn't a need for Alcaraz?

Like Matt says, he's only really been with the players this week, maybe he wants to know what he needs before handing out contracts willy nilly.
