L_Blue
It's not exactly a beast I think you only need something like a processor over 2ghz and at least a 64mb gfx card.

Pat
I have a Business copy via work. Namely we shut down till Feb next week & The It company my mob use are in now & will be over the break upgrade the entrie work system, before we all come back etc. ( No piracy doing). Of course being the technical report author from hell, it was felt I should get both a Work & home copy. Back to the crux...@ Home I have on my newish P4 3.2 / 3Gb DDR2 RAM - 500Gb HD - etc etc n all the bells....No probs HOWEVER - I have 2 work stations Pc's @ work. 1 in office, 1 in a crib on a wharf. The 2nd PIECE OF SHIOTE wharfside is an old Optima - 1200MHZ - 512Mb SDRAM & 80Gb Hard drive. ALL That had to be done to this peice of shiote ( I thought fuk yeh new pc 4 Pat- finally a paid for lap top - wrong) was the Graphics had to be enhanced from 32 to 64 bitt. So they slapped a cheapo graphics card in & off she goes like a dream. Just thoguht that worthy of note as uno this vendors like us to go out n buy allt he lardy daaa shiote, when sumtimes we dont have 2. P.s Ill when get a few mins take a few screen shots & fire em up here. ( Am sure to get sick of desk jockeying & be off with the pixies not caring for work doing fun things soonly & thats for sure)
L_Blue
What do you need 3ghz of DDR RAM for 2 I reckon is pushing it but 3 wtf for?
Andy
fuck all them specs, i got laptop with a 1.6 gig processor the other month, theres no way im going crazy over a new OS, hell, Windows ME would still be doing me fine had i not needed XP to make a wireless network
Pat
What do you need 3ghz of DDR RAM for 2 I reckon is pushing it but 3 wtf for? It was 4 GB but my Kids have hijacked a GB. I Encode & author a lot of digital video & the performance difference, quality of out put & overall time frame is striking in comparison to when i did with much less Ram. Product recomendation Folks - Thermaltake Blue Orb 2 Cpu Fan & Heatsink ( ruffly 20-25 Quid) Cooling pc to an idle of 38 c when it's 33 c outside has been another major performance improv. T-take Blue Orb 2 I recomend to anyone - put in last week & took idle temp from stock intel fan from pretty much factory standard temp of 49c - 38c. 45 -50c odd under load - unlike the late 50's erly 60's 1 got before. Basically it now has a load temp the same as what the idle temp was before the Cpu fan & heatsink upgrade with the orb. I was able to fuk off 2 other nosiy pissy case fans ( leaving in Rear & front HDD cooler) & is now quiet as a church mouse. ( this orb thing is very very quiet & easy to handle - unlike them evil fukin snap twist leg, pop fukers on the intel job's)
StevO
i wanna go vista, but im not sure if my laptop is upto it. the only spec i knew was 256 memory and a 40 HDD, i threw in an extra 512 memory, but i dont know what other upgrades i can do, laptops confuse me. can anybody help? pat you seem to know whats goin on
L_Blue
Main requirement as Pat said is 64mb gfx card and I doubt your laptop has one, it might but half the time laptops have shitty integrated gfx so not much you can do about it. Pat
That might be a probelm mate. My Older work job Is a desktop & The Graphics Upgrade solved that particular instance. Like l_blue mentons mate & perhaps dependant on the Lappies age as well, you might be stuck @ a dead end. Not sure on upgrading etc as am a desktop dewd...but..Ide gather wouldnt be so cheap..( Dont no 4 sure) & the cost may outweigh the cause. 1st Thing I would do is some sort of system report thru windows or I think nero does it now, Belarc advisor etc & find out what Integrated Graphics set up ure particular machine has, then start considering the possible options etc. Dont claim to be Bill gates mate But have been addicted 4 some time now & if can be of any help @ all dont hesitate to yell. Guest fozzie
.................... Foz.............Exactly what does it require. ?? Good processor..512 mb of ram (just to run Vista) a good graphics card.. Download this <---------and it will tell you if your pc is up to the job. One of its biggest selling points is DX10 which is manily used for games but vista was desigened using DX9 so it'll work with a DX9 card, plus there are several different versions of Vista coming out, some with all the bells and whistles other without, typical MS making life hard. I've got 4GB of ram it helps ..also got 2 graphics cards in my rig..who knows i may persued the wife to let me try watercooling next. Pat
Go foz. Seen Pics of it done ( Water Cooling) with a beer can, Fish tank Pump & Ice mate...LOL...Though Ide reco something a lil less crude. Another lil pointer wif Vista, is that if ya aint got a DVD ure fuked 2. Release will be on the DvD Medium as is Largish.
L_Blue
I cant believe someone on this board is using SLI that is the biggest rip off ever when I built my current PC 3 years ago I spent 300 on a gfx card and thought it was a bit of a rip but SLI or Crossfire or whatever is just making the whole process stupid since your PC will just be average in 6 months that is why I decided to buy an Xbox 360. For me SLI has been a great investment, cracking looking games at silly resolutions all make the money worth while. I have an xbox 360,i've not played it since august so i think i've had way more use ut of my grahics cards than my xbox..plus pc games dont cost 50 quid a pop. L_Blue
My monitor can only display upto 1280 x 1024 so I would have to invest in a new monitor as well as a brand spanking new PC to enjoy silly resolutions. You can get 360 games for as little as 20£ most new games seem to only be around 39.99 online. I am not saying if I had a high paying job I wouldn't be tempted by an SLI rig but in my current position as dossy student a 360 makes more sense plus with a vga cable and a vga switcher box my pc and 360 will be in one place so I don't have to move much and it's almost like playing the games on the PC kind of.... Patch Tuesday
I think everyone at work'll be getting Vista next year, so if I can get a trial version I wouldn't mind testing it. Personally I'd rather invest time in learning to use Linux, but the Microsoft inertia machine is a bugger to push against. ....and I know PC games tend to be cheaper fozzie, but anyone who actually pays £50 for a 360 game needs they're head testing. just check out play.com, tesco and many others. older games start from £15 now, and £25 classics are just starting to appear.
