No, he’s a player who started as a midfielder but has since shown his versatility by performing well in the full-back/wing-back positions at the highest level. Matty Cash, at Villa, has had a similar positional career progression is he still just a midfielder covering full-back or just because he’s done it for a couple of seasons (very well) is he a full-back who used to play in midfield? I know - nonsense!
Spent last season on loan playing CM for wba. He's only covered at right back 39 times compared to a 160 in midfield. Would you call Holgate a right back or Steve Watson a striker?

I live in Russia and follow the Russian league closely. He's a decent player but still nothing special. I can't stress enough how much lower the standard is here than in the Prem, more so now than even when we were signing Billy. We're not missing out by not signing Vlasic for the reported fee (30 million euros is way too much in my opinion).
Do you rate Townsend over him?
From his limited time here I thought Vlasic was a little bit special on top of his work rate.

Worth getting him here if he's going for free.

Played both left and right for Arsenal. Pretty sure he was their left back when they won the FA Cup when Arteta first took over.
He's a midfielder just covering the full back positions. Might as well just do that with what we have. No way does he get in our midfield, and he's no better than Kenny at right back.

He doesn’t they have history but I think Benitez isn’t silly he wouldn’t let personal feelings cloud his judgment, if he thought James could do a job for him and the team he would 100% want him to stay, Benitez is all about the team and winning. And for all we know there both happy and he’s going no where.
isn't it worrying that he doesn't want james to do a job? Ancelotti said he regretted not changing his formation to bring in Baggio. James is world class, if you can't accommodate that you shouldn't be managing Everton.

Delph particularly loves it here, he looks happy in training ..... He likes getting photos with his ex man city teammates after losing.
For me James is one of the ones who looks the most arsed.

He is the definitive luxury player, and needs other players to cover his deficiencies. He does not provide enough on a consistent basis to warrant that level of protection or cover - hence not one of the best footballers in the world. If he goes tomorrow, it will be for free!!!, just like we took him for free.
We got him for free as he's on mega wages and the manager didn't like him. Before going on a free to us he went for £40m to Monaco and then £70m to Real Madrid. Messi just went on a free.

Don’t weep mate he hasn’t wanted to play for us since Ancelotti left and possibly a month or 2 before.
He's all smiles in training. All the sound bites suggest it's more Benetiz doesn't like him.

One of the best players in the world getting fucked off so we can play percentage football instead.

Arsenal's fourth choice right back. Kenny is better than that.

Coleman for me. If Jags was still Captain Richarlison would have hit that pen into row z.

Oh for sure. They had almost as many chances at 10 men than Liverpool had with their full 12
Fixed it.. just like the ref tried to.

Duffy and Keane are the same player
Duffy at least isn't a wet lettuce.

Made up he's going to West Ham, he's bang average but Evertonians seem to wear these mad tinted glasses for him. He would make us arguably better, but marginally to the extent that we wouldn't see any benefit from it.
3 hours ago, Shukes said:Totally agree. He was always slightly better than what we had. But then most would have kept Duffy as well. Look how he turned out.
Both better than Michael Keane tbf.

Scottish football is that poor it's hard to judge. Any half decent player up there looks special next to lads who would struggle to make ametuer teams in England.

How many players have done similar since Richarlison got sent off for the same thing? How many got sent off?

Brighton 2-3 Everton

He's just a shit Theo Walcott.

He is looking a different player under Benitez. Still underwhelming but slightly less. I can see him having a decent season.
Underwhelming? He's been our best player.

Kean sent off.
Hang on, what the fuck has Kean done wrong there? Late challenge so he gives the lad a shove, not seeing how that is violent conduct (i.e. - an elbow/headbutt). One of the most over the top sending offs I've ever seen .
Edit: People on Twitter saying that Moise made contact with the lads neck/face. But didn't look like it to me - really want to see it back zoomed in as I'm honestly gobsmacked.
Went to uni with the ref. He's over compensating for his Everton ties. Will look good to the shitty referee society to help get him bumped up to the prem.

Talking of £5m right backs that Livemerento for Soton looks good. Had Richarlison in his pocket.

Holgate has more gaffes in him than Keane does, those are just facts. So if it's not Keane or Holgate, you think Rafa should've played Branthwaite?
How's it a fact?
Keane probably made more cock ups in his first season alone than Holgate has in his entire career.

I’m not going to say he cost us 2 points because if he scored from Iwobi’s pass that changes the game from that point and anything could happen, but I’m going to say he should have dinked that over the keeper who was going down before he hit it straight at him when we should have been 1-3 up. He works really hard for the team and is good from 2-3 yards out but he isn’t a clinical or natural finisher in time this part of his game may get better.
It's 50/50 what the keeper is going to do, the keeper gambled well. On another day the keeper makes himself big and DCL gets a goal through his legs.

Phil Neville was one of the better right backs in the league. I wouldn't even consider comparing him to centre mids as he wasn't one. He was very much covering.
Comparing a winger going from right mid to right back is hardly an argument. Massively different set of skills between central midfield and right back.
Ronaldo is the best player in the world, hardly reflective of most players.
How many players play in two positions just as well. Most have a primary position, and any where else they play is secondary. I'd much rather get a right back in who excels in that position rather than someone who merely fills in when there's injuries.
