oh moved to SF, met a lady, got married, got two cats and a dog etc. etc. etc.
I've really cut down my online time since I started being on a computer all day at work. I get my everton fix passively thru podcasts now, which I can do while walking the dog -- hard to argue with you lot when I'm holding a leash
I hope all's well with everyone!

Ian C got a reaction from rubecula in Is Everton Traditionally Catholic Or Protestant?
Both clubs originally have ties to Methodism. You can find evidence on both sides for either being 'traditionally' one or the other but the evidence is always tenuous at best.

There is no Catholic or Protestant split these days between Everton/Liverpool, however. Liverpool has a huge Irish Catholic community and both clubs enjoy support from both denominations. Usually Everton and Liverpool fans would have been friendlier with Celtic than with Rangers though in Everton's case this has ceased to even be a talking point anymore. Liverpool probably have closer ties with Celtic these days owing to them having far more fans than in Ireland (clearly evidenced through their singing of YNWA and the Fields (of Athenry/Anfield Road)).

The best argument against any latent sectarian split between Everton and Liverpool is the far clearer and more famous intra-familial split. It's kind of impossible for there to be any sectarian split if support is split within families of the same religion, isn't it?

I don't know, his best position is Minister for Finance and I think we're too short in other areas to worry about that at the moment. I hear he's not so quick these days either.

This is the testimony of a man who only knows one way of becoming a fan.

I've experienced both. I've grown up to be a Club Brugge supporter since I was a toddler, as I went to school in the center of Bruges as a kid and teenager. And I do go to the stadium every once in a while. But just like you, I've taken a lot of interest in the EPL in recent years and took fancy in teams of which I liked the style of footballing. For instance I started to take a fancy in Manchester City and Chelsea early on, whereas I disliked Arsenal and ManU's football. I've grown into liking EFC a lot, definitely in very recent years. Now I actually like Everton as much as I like Club Brugge.

Hi Ben, I really don't want to sound harsh and I am happy you have chosen everton as your preferred team but I have never fathom how someone can just pick a team and start supporting them.

It's either drilled into you or an experience has made this choice for you.

Supporters really do baffle me nowdays. When I was young I never listened or toll on board anything my dad said but due to him supporting everton and me being around that experience I was hooked. It's like something you cannot choose. I could have taken a easier more smug, glory hunting path when I was younger and followed man utd or liverpool for that matter but it chooses you.
