I think the most we can take from this is that Joel may not as poor as many believe he is and that we will only know how good Pickford can be if he has a chance to play for a good team (or, alternatively, if he had a few more seasons under his belt, giving us a larger sample size). £30m (or whatever) is a big risk. I just hope that our scouting system has analyzed the shit out of Pickford's limited tapes to identify his good qualities and which things he will need to improve. Hopefully, we are going about this smartly and have a clear idea of how to make him into a keeper worthy of the price tag.

I'm not saying these stats are necessarily meaningful (seeing as Pickford played in a team that was a shambles all over the pitch), but it's food for thought:

I'd go ahead and replace him while playing hardball, saying he's under contract for two years, and holding out for more. I know that we won't handle it like that. But, it's been clear that he thinks he can do better than Everton. I don't blame him. It isn't that I don't think the world of Everton. I just think, because Lukaku has been nailed on as the next big thing since he was a child, he's had it in his head that he's destined for greatness on the world stage. He doesn't work as hard as he should. He doesn't seem to worry about the rest of the team. I don't think he's one for long-term projects. He wants to win. He wants to score. And, he wants glory. I think the biggest problem with Lukaku is that he believes he deserves these things. And, so he goes about achieving them very cheaply.

If it is true that we're interested, I hope he and Gana are buddies and that he's selling Everton to him non-stop.
