This is the key: a solid backbone of young players who can lead this team to greatness over the next decade. It's like watching the rise of Barca all over again.

Stones, Garbutt, Coleman, McCarthy, Besic, Barkley, and Lukaku. What a combination!

Can't really complain about the fee - Costing around the same money we got for Fellini. - I'm happy with that, proven premiership striker, already settled in at Everton so no bedding in period, young with massive sell on potential. - can't really lose on this deal.

Stones, Coleman, Barkley, Besic, McCarthy, Lukaku - What a platform for which to build a future, right through the side some of the most exciting young players in the premiership. Mix these with the more senior figures, a very exciting period in the clubs recent history.

I get the feeling these youngsters know they are buying in to something special under Martinez, for them to be either signing contract extensions or signing up for the club. Brilliant

Can't remember if I have already posted this. Apologies if I have. I can't remember what I had for dinner either. In season 1958/59 I was playing for Yorkshire Amateur who, at the time, were one of the top Amateur clubs in the North. I was selected to represent a Leeds and District representative side against Huddersfield Town. The game was a mid-week evening game at Huddersfield and was played under floodlights. The first time I had ever played under 'lights'. I was made captain for the night, for no other reason that in representative games they usually made the centre-half captain as he was located right in the middle of proceedings. I remember that we lost but can't remember the score or much about the game. After the game, Huddersfield had laid on refreshments for the players and after changing, I went into the room where the refreshments were being served. As I walked in, I saw Bill Shankly (who at the time was Huddersfield's manager) talking to one of the Leeds Officials. I recognised Bill Shankly as I had seen him play against Everton on a few occasions. Next to Bill Shankly was a young blond haired lad, who looked about 14 and who I took to be his son. The Leeds Official spotted me and called me over. He introduced me to Bill Shankly and as I shook hands with him he fixed me with a steely look and all he said was 'let me introduce you to a future Scottish International' He pointed to the young lad and I shook hands with him. I can't remember if Shankly ever mentioned the lads name but it wouldn't have meant anything to me anyway. I realised later that the young lad was Denis Law. So there I was, being introduced to one of the greatest managers of all time and one of the greatest British players of all time and I didn't know it. The sequel to this is that about 15 years ago I was at a Sportsmans dinner where Denis Law was guest speaker. I managed to get the opportunity to have a long chat with Denis and told him the above tale. Obviously, he didn't remember it but we had a good laugh about it. I am just sad that I was unable to re-live the memory with Bill Shankly also.

That's a bit harsh. Things can change in an instant, and predictions are exactly that: Some work out and some do not. Timing is important in the Lukaku saga, and I think our friend is probably right.

Now I must get to the gym and keep my wayside in check.

Just mentioned to the wife that I thought the spark had gone out of our marriage and she tasered me.

I'd be extremely surprised if he ended up at Wolfsburg. Not worried about them in the slightest.

I'm having trouble believing he'll end up at Wolfsburg, but what do I know?

Loving the kits, especially this away one, although I can't wait for the third. I didn't get a chance to grab the part-navy one from last year so I'll have to jump on this one. You know, something to accompany that beautiful pink jersey I wear.

And the first Merseyside derby was in October 1894 when the reds won 3-0 at Goodison; the reds being us because that season Liverpool played in blue .

I have to admit I was crying like fuck over the Mcarthey signing, 14 million, 14 FUCKING MILLION I was shouting.

I can honestly say I'm delighted I was proved wrong. Thats always a win win for me like that. I moan over a player he succeeds the team benefit which pleases me no end, he flops I 'm right. I much prefer the former though.
