A draw away would be a good result at home we should expect to beat most teams and that’s the mindset the squad have to have.

                            Pickford

    coleman.     Keane.    Mina.     God

                   Delph.    Gomes

    charly.            Iwobi.         bernie

                           Kean

wolves I think normally play a back five. They play some good football in the midfield but have nobody with blistering pace until Traore comes on. At home id like us to go and smash teams. Clean sheets are great but at the end of the day it’s who scores more goals than the other. Maybe a bit to attacking but you don’t know if you don’t try it

Nice team let’s hope we see it!

  2. I don’t think it would be forthcoming, winning the cup wouldn’t change Steve’s argument. Which personally I don’t agree with.

I acknowledge you are probably aware of this and are just poking fun but ....

  3. Great analogy. To much analytical thinking now a days. Where’s the emotion? Watching a match on TV can be like watching a game of FIFA. Even in the middle of winter the pitches are bright green and perfect. Great for the players but I miss the chaos a winter pitch used to cause. The games so different now and not all for the better.

Here’s a difference to setting a selling/buying price and what a player is worth.

Just as in any walk of life. A friend of mine has an old action man tank in his attic in pristine condition. He won’t sell it because there isn’t a person in the planet that can afford it.

The world isn’t made up of black and white, no matter what business minds may think 😉

I’m not sure where this idea about Costas personality has come from. His team mates have always seemed to love him. Trippier commented the other day how welcome he’s made him feel, him and Morata looking after him. No doubt he’s a crank on the pitch though.

Absolutely he may the nicest guy in the world off the pitch. I just don’t know how he’d fit at Everton.

We've been down the road with young up coming strikers they rarely ever come good especially when there is no good senior striker to learn from, for me get Costa in and let the likes of DCL and Tosun learn from a master how to lead the line terrorise defenders and score goals.

Backfired when we tried that with Eto though. I’m not sure Costa is the right personality for that role either.

Other than spurs and city I don’t know of anyone who has a starting quality FB or CB on their bench.  Most CB and FB are durable and holgate is good, he was good even under koeman.  Leicester won the league with the same 4 Backline the whole season.  We have a good keeper and good CM as well.  The area for me to spend the money is striker if we must.  I think we need to offload a lot of players before we can do anything though. The wage bill is massive and the squad is too big.

Totally agree about needing to offload some players and I’d like to see a striker come in as well. Leicester winning the league was just a freak though, we still need more depth at centre half.

Or maybe he’s not as good we hope?

i don’t like to be negative, but usually less than 5% of young players make it at premiere league level. So I might be a bit negative, but in my life time I’ve seen so many players who are going to make it. In reality, there is pretty much Rooney and Barkley who have, no one else has met the standard. This standard is getting higher, and not as easy to reach. Just be careful where you place faith in young players, 95% wont be as good as you hope.

I get what you’re saying but I think you’re being harsh on a few others Osman and Hibbert are two that I can think of.

Yes but the 10 games after the 1st five we got  7 points from a possible 30, so can you understand when I say his great start of 13 points from a possible 15 in the 1st 5 games saved him from being in the bottom 3 we were in free fall and he turned it round.

That is why I disputed your original post of Silva turned his season round which Martinez and Koeman couldn’t do.

Then the same has Silva a lot wanted him sacked then it was I new he would turn it round what a good manager can’t wait for next season blah blah blah and the rest is history, that’s why I’m not building him up to be the saviour been there done that before, let’s just wait and see what transpires next season before we start talking of top 6 or 4.

Ok the points return from that run of games was poor. If you remember some of the defeats we were extremely unlucky and had draws against city and utd as well in that run. Our league position never dropped below 9th though because we did have such a good start and that needs to be considered. All told I don’t believe we ever looked like being in the same trouble we appeared to be in this season.

Even though I was worried I never called for Silva to be sacked and I have certainly never said he’s our savior. Just that I’m optimistic for the future.

I can see your take on it though.

I don’t think anyone is building him up to be a saviour, just plenty of reason to optimistic. We’ve had enough pessimism in the last 30 years, it’s good to see Evertonians being positive again.

You’ve hit the nail on the head.

Exactly he had really good start and a very poor mid it was only his good start that kept it from looking as bad as it was, then he turned the corner and finished 7th refer to Koeman thread for that season and it may jog your memory.

So please concede you were wrong because he did turn his 1st season round, and yes he couldn’t sustain that in his 2nd season as Martinez couldn’t, but let’s not forget Silva hasn’t had his 2nd yet, so a little bit like counting your chickens when it comes to Silva next season could potentially go either way.

I concede that the results after the first 5 games were not as good as they should have been, but at the halfway stage of the season we were in the same position we were in at the end. We never looked like getting relegated that season. Where as in February this year I had serious concerns we might. I also concede that next season could go either way. I’m still optimistic though.

  11. Just checked and in Koeman’s first season we were never lower than 9th in the table. We finished 7th which is where we were after 18 games. (And never moved from 7th after the 18th game). I’ll give you we had run after the great start (4 wins out of 5) where we lost some games against teams we would want to beat, but we were still winning games and against some good sides too. If you compare that against season two where it was all downhill.

Rubbish Koeman turned his first season around and we finished seventh when at one point we looked possible relegation candidates.

Thats not how I remember it at all. He started ok until the rot set in and then it was down hill all the way.
