  1. ESPN3 is streaming it if you are in the US.
  2. What was the final score? 1-0?
  3. Same for me. Thought Davies looked good on the ball.
  4. 7:55 am eastern time. They are playing a team the Czech first division.
  5. Anybody watching the friendly tomorrow? ESPN is streaming it on their website.
  6. This is right. He's a very conservative politician. He's also super dumb. He thinks smoking doesn't kill you, thinks global warming is a hoax, hates gay people, and doesn't think evolution is true. He'll appeal to who he is supposed to appeal to, but he won't appeal to any "moderate" voter sitting on the fence. Hillary Clinton is going to cruise to victory with 310+ electoral votes. Trump has to win every state Romney won, plus Florida, Virginia, and Ohio. He might nick one of those states (Florida) but not all three. Clinton only needs one of those three and she wins.
  7. How will Mata and Barkley work together? Honest question.
  8. Lots of rumors in the US that Jurgen Klinsman is interested. He's fucking terrible, but at least he wouldn't be coaching the US anymore.
  9. Mark, I think we agree on the US strengths. As much as I hate to say it, what do you think about a Klopp style press for the US? It requires a huge amount of fitness and effort--things the US can provide. I'm sure tactically, it is more complex than I can see, but I think that's another style that I'd support. (Obviously, no one can tell what Jurgen is trying to do)
  10. That was a fantastic goal by Shaqiri. Almost unbelievable that it went in from that far out.
  11. For the US based Toffees--the ESPN OJ Simpson documentary was incredibly well done. Puts the whole thing in context and even though I was old enough to remember the whole thing, I learned a lot.
  12. Unfortunately our test site is in Colorado and I'm DC based, so I haven't been able to actually see a live crash test. They don't happen very often because, as you can imagine, they are extremely expensive. The live testing is mostly to validate the computer models they build to test on a very much cheaper scale.
  13. I think anyone who doesn't constantly insult American soccer supporters, plays players in their natural positions, and has an actual soccer philosophy would be an improvement over Klinsman. And I think Roberto could bring all of that. He'll be annoyingly positive, but he'll have a tactical plan. Playing two CDM to protect the back four like he did with us might work out very well for the players we currently have. Bradley and Jones can sit and Nagbe/Bedoya/Pulisic/Johnson can bomb up the wings in the midfield. We don't have a guy even as good as Lukaku in hold up play (Bobby Wood probably the closest), so he'd have to sort that out. To be honest though, I don't think we have the technical ability yet to play Roberto's style. We are still best as a bunker and counter team. Our strengths are still organization, discipline, fitness and togetherness. Just like everyone else, I want that to change. But the change will come slowly. That style is at odds with what American fans love, but we, as a fan base, are getting a lot smarter about soccer. Just about every new fan that started watching the EPL in 2015-2016 loved Leceister City. LCFC bunkered and countered better than just about anyone and won the league. Atletico does it best and they went to the champions league final. It's a legitimate strategy. BTW, yesterday was the anniversary of Landon Donovan's goal against Algeria. Still gives me goosebumps. (And an example of a pacey counterattack!)
  14. I saw a tweet that the Queen could step in and overrule the vote (if it is for exit). Is that true? Would it be accepted as legitimate?
  15. Yep, the TV commercials are right. Freight rail is way more efficient than trucking. We've gotten smarter over the last 20 or so years about multi-modal distribution and the freight rails have become extremely profitable, and frankly, more competitive, which has driven prices down and improved quality. Derailments are down and so are non-derailment accidents, so the industry is thriving. I'd like to to think my agency had something to do with that via its regulatory role!
  16. I work in contracts for something called the Federal Railroad Administration at the US Department of Transportation. The best part of my job is writing contracts for research and development--we actually have a site where we can crash trains together to learn how they derail in an accident--but I spend the majority of my time dealing with all the mundane garbage that comes with an office job. And just as a nod to my English and European friends, everyone that works for my agency is jealous of the European train system. Passenger rail in the US is abysmal compared to Europe.
  17. USA were not great, but Argentina was just amazing. The gap was clear--we've got a generation or two to go. And that's if we are smart about our development (which we never are)
  18. Crazy stuff, I actually thought this was sort of a joke thing. Obviously not. A lot of people really want to leave. Wow. I mean, you do you England, we've got our own crazy shit here in the US, but still. Crazy.
  19. Currently talking myself into the US winning this match vs. Argentina. A pipe dream I know, but whiskey does strange things to the mind. GO GO USA!
  20. I was very pessimistic about the US chance to get out of the group, so well done by the lads to win the group. I'm still not really happy with Jurgen, but he deserves credit for rallying the troops after the loss to Columbia. Pulisic and Nagbe need more minutes though!
  21. Terrible event this morning in Orlando. Even worse response by Donald Turmp. This country is bananas.
  22. Chicago has higher end restaurants that are more in the European style of more appropriate portion sizes. Alternatively, you and a friend can order one deep dish pizza and eat until you're sick and you still won't be able to finish it.
  23. And we played the Chile national anthem for Uruguay. So embarrassing.
  24. Marc Bartra from Barcelona to Dortmund. 25 year old that has struggled to get into Barcelona's side.
  25. Was saying this on twitter, but there hasn't been a decent match in the first 5 matches and the attendance has been bad. CONCACAF looks terrible: 2 red cards and zero goals so far. The USA looked okay, but Columbia couldn't be bothered. I sense that the South American sides aren't taking it seriously. I also predict that Klinsman will start spinning this tournament as "not that important" after we lose or draw with Costa Rica. Should we beat Costa Rica on Tuesday? Absolutely. We are better at every position except GK, and Navas isn't even playing. But we looked tactically bankrupt on Friday and the only way to fix that is to dump Dempsey and Jones and Jurgen will never do that. We also need to play our best player, Fabian Johnson, in his best position. I realize that leaves a gaping hole at left back, but Fabian was basically invisible on Friday. Zardes can't play on the same side as Yedlin as they take up the same space in attack. For me, I'd do the following, 4-4-2: Yedlin, Brooks, Beasler, Cameron (Yes I know that Cameron has never played left back. But he has played right back.) Diamond midfield with Bradley protecting the back four, Nagbe as a central attacking midfielder, Bedoya on the right and Fabian on the left. Wood and Pulisic up front. Or Wood and Dempsey with Pulisic on at the 55-60th minute. With the exception of Cameron, I think that puts everyone in their best position. Another option would be a 3-5-2, with the same group of players. Yedlin would slide up and Cameron would be the third CB. Ultimately, though, I don't think the formation is what beat us on Friday. Cameron and Yedlin both made dumb mistakes. We were slightly unlucky in front of goal. Eliminate the stupid mistakes and it is a 0-0 draw. (I mean what the hell Geoff Cameron? Have you never seen a pick play on a corner before?) Lastly, Jermaine Jones has been a great servant to the team, but he is so clearly passed his prime I can't believe Jurgen can't see it. Sure he's been great in MLS, but being great in MLS is sort of like being the tallest 5 year old.
